Top fruiting questions
    #26018715 -

Hi i have some bacterial jars that someone recommended i top fruit.

I opened the jar and cased with coir , and replaced the polyfil lid

My question is should i introuduce fruiting conditions immediately or wait for the coir to be colonized.

Thank you.

If you have jars with bacterial growth and you put coir on the top then the contamination is simply going to spread into that.

Just throw out the bad jars and try again.

Its not really bacteria more of a yeast sludge from overcooking the grains ( i did it twice )

I just tossed 7 jars outside that were contaminated in a non uniform patttern (splotches ) and they smelled like fresh mushrooms and grain mash...

This particular jar however was able to colonize the top of the jar completely so i believe it is capable of producing fruits ...

like theres no way bacteria can make it through 2 inches of solid , healthy mycelium is there?

Either way this question is more for future reference than anything :

i just want to know if you case then replace jar lid or  introduce fruiting conditions immediately after casing?

Kind of an update on this question... the myc actually does seem to be beating the bacteria and is doing well growing through the casing as well as towards finishing the bottom of the jar...

Should i spawn or let it top fruit?

im thinking the latter but id rather not get a diminished yield and fruit time

I'd do an outdoor patch with that.

If you don't want diminished yields you should have thought about that before you contaminated your spawn. Bulk substrate mostly just supplies water.  Bottom water the cased grains as much as possible and be hai happy with whatever you get as it's better than the nothing you could have had

No pics so only on description. You opened the jar before it was done colonizing, there's no going backwards now, you made your choice already. Ride it out.
