fruiting question

Hey everyone, I am growing shrooms using various PF hybrids, and am at the fruiting stage. I more or less understand the basics, but I do have one question. My first cake to pin was actually pinning on the bottom. I realize that they are phototropic, but no light should have reached the bottom except for when I was taking it out of the jar and putting it in my terrarium. So my question is, why did it do that? Is this normal and should I just let them grow from the bottom?

what do you have your cakes sitting on top of? you must remember light bends and can reach all sorts of crack and corners in your cakes..especially if sitting on perlite wich is white and will reflect quit a bit of light..shrooms dont need much light to trigger primordia formation..most of the time when shrooms grow at the bottom that means that is where the most moisture is..you should double end case them to get a better flush from all over the cake..

I am using perlite and have them sitting on top of a small square of saran wrap. Since there is condensation on the saran wrap, that makes perfect sense. I had thought that by taking them directly off of the perlite, i would be limiting the amount of moisture at the bottom. Oh well, live and learn. Time, places, people... They're all speeding up.
