Re: is god ok with tripping ? [Re: Morel Guy]

I have a belief that you cannot teach anyone anything, that in fact on must just learn on their own. The old you can lead a horse to water kind of thing. With that said I personally believe that God, gaia, the logos, the other, what have you, loves curiosity. We are thinkers, if we are not asking questions about everything and not experiencing everything we can who would? I feel like our capacity for thought would be wasted. Substances that cause us to think more or clearer or just plain think, in my eyes, are beneficial. Especially the substances that are au naturel. I grew up super catholic, my dad just got ordained a deacon a couple weeks ago actually. I was even a teen leader I the youth group. By far the most spiritual experience I've ever had was on mushrooms. That was the first time that I was certain that I was having a conversation with God. I think that as long as one trips responsibly and takes care of themselves both physically and mentally, that God encourages tripping. I went back to church to celebrate my father's ordination after not having been in a church in a long time. It was beautiful being in Mass with a psychedelic mind. I felt like I had a cheat code or something and understood all of the symbols and teachings soooo much better than I did before I was psychedelic. Not saying that I understood everything or anything like that, I just saw everything from a different angle that just clicked like it never had before. There was a study done where they gave people(I believe clergy and seminarians) lsd during a good Friday Mass(one of the most holy masses in Catholicism), I never really heard about what happened but i think that would be something worth looking into.
I apologize, I'm trying to write this at work so my thoughts are all over the place. End of the day I lean towards McKenna's stoned ape theory in explaining how our brain size doubled in such a short time leading my to believe that these substances are encouraged by God

Is Jesus/god ok with tripping?

Interesting question, well Allah is not. Same god. Using Bible verses gets us nowhere since it contradicts itself constantly.

Is a soul really worth a joint and some caps and stems? The book is full of rape, genocide, famine, disease all caused by the holy one. Why is this totalitarian story so appealing?

I would say it's petty to think that a god would be upset for using a very safe "drug." But this is only my opinion.

If the supreme being is ok with sleep as an altered form of consciousness,  and other forms of awareness,  I don't see why tripping would be viewed badly.

You cannot speak for G-d, including G-d in the Name of Allah. At best you can cite which representative religious authorities condone their use in the Name of G-d (here, "Allah, the merciful, the Compassionate." Among Iranian Shi'ite Muslims, you have an acceptance of psychedelic mushrooms as being Hallal, which means ritually pure, given certain contours of their use. https://psychedelictimes.com/2017/12/28/irans-top-religious-leader-approves-therapeutic-use-psychedelics/

What would a priest know that you dont? They put their pants on the same way you do. They have no knowledge beyond what you have. "God" does not talk to them. They may have an opinion....but thats all.
But strange as it may seem, its very possible that the origins of Chistianity" was based on use of mushrooms by the Nostics. I find it strangely odd that early 'Christian" art... 11th century forward.. has a LOT of mushrooms in it.. psylocybe and amanitas in their artwork, that was designed to tell a story since early peasant 'Christians' couldn't read. Art depicting the Tree of Life being a mushroom... as well as Jesus holding a mushroom pointing to himself.(and lots more) I often wonder what scrolls the Catholic church burned to try to conceal this connection.(control information you control the populace) I encourage you to check out John Allegro's work on the Dead Sea Scrolls.. and come to your own conclusion. Just approach it with an open mind. If you do, you should realize that our modern day "religion"and its doctrines have some issues.. issues with reality and true history. It may hurt also, at first to realize there was no Adam and Eve... there was really no Noah and his Ark, nor a Moses... nor a Jesus as depicted... or some "Babydaddy in the Sky."
Sometimes truth can be painful, but that does not make it any less untrue. I only say this to open your eyes, but no desire to pry them open. If you gain peace in your heart holding on to your faith, by all means hold on.  But if you are looking for truth...and real freedom.. keep digging, you will find it. I wish you luck..cuz in good concience I can not pray for you.. reality tells me there is no one to pray to... unless I want to start burning witches and stoning homosexuals as a true follower of Yahweh.

i reckon I havent given a "Christian" answer. But I came from my heretical heart as a humanist... and a realist. But with the best of intentions.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.", might open your eyes to the possibility that you are incorrect on some points in your summation. Knowledge being a cumulative thing, you might make yourself comfortable and entertain the prospect that you yourself are about to get your eyes opened on a point or two by the venerable lad in our midst to whom you have addressed your comments. I will end this missive with a short prayer: "Thankyou, Lord, for having presented us with this lamb for the slaughter, in a metaphorical sense."

You are your own Dogma but being responsible to society is a huge part of not hating yourself.

Tripping with thought is not so good.  The idea is to go beyond the default mode network.  There is not thought that does that, only peace.

Drugs in the 1960s woke up a lot of people to feelings of destiny.  Lot's of people got into trouble with 'acceptance'.  Acceptance is the first sign of brainwashing.

Genesis 1:29-30
Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so.

I'd say he fine with it. Not christian and also never met the guy on any trips, so all I got is a line from his biography to back it up.

There's a lot of social concerns with tripping.  Not everyone responds the same and that is a huge concern.  So people don't really know what to make of someones visions.

Hooked on a vision should be a song.  It'd be crappy.

Later on in history, plants with psychoactive (or back then, spiritual) properties were relegated to witchcraft and sorcery (pharmakeia, 'practice of the druggist,' from pharmakon in Greek). Shunning drugs would become the basis for Christian Science (oxymoronic I know) in the 19th century. Mushrooms would be shunned by the Hebrew cultus for Mosaic dietary laws (especially those on poo). Although, Daniel Merkur makes convincing arguments for ergot-tainted "shewbread" which Moses and Aaron would eat and then see 'the glory of the LORD.' In any event, these were ritual consumptions, not food. Same with the 'manna from heaven' in Exodus 16 which sounds a lot like psilocybian mushrooms growing from the poo of the exiled Hebrew's animals, and which might have (if they were), considered to be a providential blessing which gave the tribes energy to continue their journey. You'd have to be pretty hungry for mushrooms in poo to taste like 'wafers and honey,' as it is written.

It's more of a test to see if one can let go of one's desire to intellectually understand Mystery, when the point is to mystify, to elicit awe and wonder, and to engender the humility of knowing that one will never Know.

Maybe God created mystery to further her along her future plan..

If she were to tell you directly what you'll do in the future.. than you might rebel.. knowing that your future isn't fully being created by you..

So in a sense God surrounds her plan with mystery!

Mystery as I mean it is what W.T. Stace speaks to in his book Time and Eternity, (1952). Mystery refers to the Mysterium Tremendum et Facinans, the Tremendous and Fascinating Mystery, so-called by Rudolph Otto (The Idea of the Holy). This is the original, primal Mystical Experience that utterly transcends ordinary discursive intellect. All normal functions are subdued and one Experiences as  much of the ineffable Ultimate reality that a human psyche can take without perishing.

The ancient myths speak to these Experiences. Semele, mother of Dionysus holds God (Zeus) to his promise for any single request. In her case it is to see his True Nature. He warns her that she cannot survive his radiance but she insists and is incinerated. Zeus rescues her unborn child, Dionysus, and sews him inside his thigh to gestate until he can be born. Moses requests to see God' glory, anthropomorphically, his face or True nature, and God says to Moses, "You can not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live." - Exodus 33:20.

The human being apparently has a limited capacity to become aware of the "Ground of Being." There is a great story attributed to a Jewish sage, Rabbi Akiva about this Mystery, here called Pardes (Paradise, i.e., the Presence of God). Four sages have this Mystical Experience, but only Rabbi Akiva survives it and maintains his peace of mind.

"Our Rabbis have taught, four entered into the Pardes. They were Ben Azai, Ben Zoma, Aher, and Rabbi Akiba. Ben Azai gazed and died. Of him it is written, "precious in the eyes of HaShem is the death of his pious ones" (Tehilim 116, 15). Ben Zoma gazed, and went insane. Of him, it is written, "have you found honey, eat your share lest you become full, and vomit it up.” (Mishlei 25, 16). Aher became an apostate. Rabbi Akiba entered, and exited in peace.” - http://koshertorah.com/PDF/PardesLessons.pdf

Saint Paul's experience of the Third Heaven in 2 Corinthians has him say (of himself actually), "I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." Not lawful is one translation, but essentially unutterable because non-conceptual, ineffable, pure Mystery unable to be communicated by language.

Isn't that the sine qua non for all spiritual and religious traditions?  "He must increase, but I must decrease" says John the Baptist in John 3:30 reference to Iesous. If we look at biblical characters the same way that we need to look at dream characters - as symbolic aspects of our own psyche - then John is our ego, and Iesous is the Self. The partial, individual, temporal 'I' needs to yield to the whole [holy], universal, eternal identity. It occurs to me that the mythic depiction of resurrection is in fact an illustration of a psychospiritual moment wherein our individual identity identity dies, but this temporal identity turns out to be nothing more than a cloak which falls away at death revealing the Realization that we have always been the eternal "I AM." The senses of fear, loss, regret, perish with the dawning of this eternal Realization of True Identity. In this sense, we were always God playing peek-a-boo with Him-Herself through created forgetfulness of His-Her True Nature in order to experience life through the eyes of countless temporal beings. Or not. It's just a possibility.
