sorry if that was too blunt. I just went back and read your questions.

No, Cubensis Myc doesn't drop tons of little shits like that. Imperfect Fungi vs Perfect Fungi.... or fungi perfecti as paul likes to say. Cubensis require a fruit body in order to reproduce. Other fungi, which most people call molds, are imperfect fungi and can reproduce without forming a fruit body. If a plate with any type of sporulating imperfect fungi is opened in front of a flow hood, the flow carries imperfect fungi spores and redistributes them all over the fucking place. Most of these spores will land in places that you'll never notice (except possibly in other grows.... you'd notice them there) but some will land in your receiving plate. This will happen every time you open a sporulating plate in front of the flow.

That's totally fine if so. Do you know what this stuff is then? Why might only this plate havee been contaminated like this?

And the bluntness is welcome lol. I'm operating purely out accepting that I am new here and others know best. My wits are very much about me and I will rock at this stuff once I know what I'm doing wrong vs right.

that's the spirit! i can't tell you what it is, exactly. Some people around here could but i've never taken the time to learn all the names of the contams. It's not important to me. what is important is learning to avoid them skillfully.

I also can't tell you why that one plate did that and not the others. It's not magic though. If i had a video of your sterile session I could probably tell you when it happened but i have no idea how you did things. In theory, that plate would have been down wind of the original contam plate and gotten the spores / myc fragments blown into it.

I did keep the good plate upstream from the original, parallel with flow. However if you are correct about the type of mold (imperfect) then i guess it really doesn't matter, something got thrown up into a current of air and went all over the plate....good enough, ill buy that for now.

Thanks to all who gave input. Im still gunna keep the dish about in quarantine and see what its ends up as. ;-)

look at the picture of petris in my sig. I'm not guessing. i've been through it a time or two. If that plate was going to turn green it would have already. I bet it ends up looking like a plate full of white fluffy mold. cube myc likes to stick to the media (for he most part). that shit is going to get super puffy.

you should start a new spore germination plate and use as few spores as possible. preferably one drop onto a flame sterilized loop. you then streak that loop across the agar in a Z or S or .... shape to spread the spores out across the plate.

When working with contaminated plates, a flow hood is a bad choice because it just blows the contaminated spores off the dish all over everything when you open it up and work with it, including the slice you are taking. You need to use a still air box when working with a dirt culture. You mentioned something about starting with a bad culture in the beginning?

Truth. However the plate this one came from was "clean" or so I thought. Little did I know that it was actually whatever this bullshit is. I do have another plate coming along nicely which appears to have a nice dime of the more classic rhizomorphic growth that I should have been chasing all along :rolleyes:

I will be taking a transfer of this in a few days and hopefully add a successful agar plate to my toolbox.



And Verum, thats a fucking pile of plates, I only hope I dont become that interested in agar lmao.
