Agar transfer, how did this happen? epic or failstorm?

So, at the beginning of the month I started some spores from syringe to agar. I initially did this in a poor environment and got a mix of contamination and mycelium. 3 days ago in front of a flow hood, I transferred the fluffy white growth to a new dish. Since then the myc is responding great and as of yesterday / today there are dozens of small puffs of identical growth all over the plate. All of this growth is exactly the same growth pattern and brilliant white and dense looking. My transfer took literally 5 seconds of quickly opening the lid and plopping my to the center before sealing. Does myc drop tons of viable filaments in moving air and they ended up all over the plate? Or is this not myc but a look alike all along? The growth is identical to any myc I've seen so what's the deal here? All happened in 3 days.

That looks like failstorm to me. One way to be sure is to xfer your myc out then watch that plate.

Ill add that there is NONE of this on my other plates which i did more spores on all during the same session. So its not like there is a bunch of mystery suff flying around in my air, all others are purely clean at the moment, it is THIS plate. Hence my confusion. If they all did this I would just throw in the towel be like "yup fail"

Not like mycelium can jump all of a sudden all over the plate. If you did not put it there, it landed from the air or was already present on the plate.

This is going quick so ill be sure to update as it progresses. My plate with contamination the blotches turned green before getting this big and looked different.

Even with contams, genetic variance applies. The species of penicillium discovered on a melon with exemplary antibiotic strength was a good example of this. It's why penicillin became a big thing. I've had trich find a spot and stay there, not advancing at all

I still got no idea what happened here but all these puffs are growing away like crazy and look like brilliant white healthy myc. So weird. However I have about as many ready to go grain jars as I do balls of my on this plate :wink:

I think I'm gonna transfer one to a jar and see what happens.

If that is regular agar to agar transfer, there's 0% chance that those satellite growths are a good thing.

^ I understand the assumption, despite being new here I feel I have a good idea what to look for however and this checks all my boxes for mycelium. Under close inspection it is dead nuts the same growth style, color, and texture as my colonized jars and other dishes.

Does anyone have any IDs in possible growth that is or is nearly undistinguishable from desireable mycelium? Is there contaminants that are dead look alikes. And how perhaps did I get this on only one plate when others were being done?

I know there is a wealth of information here, but nothing I've found is helping me on this little experience. It's mainly curiosity as I want to learn. My future isn't depending on this dish.

As an update, this is a pic as of now. They are converging and coalescing into one. Am I retarded?

Disregard the appearance of the center, the initial sample fell upside down so the top is actually a thin layer of agar, it initially looked like the others.

What cant be seen in the pic is the fine filaments emanating in spiral form out from center of each, much like the healthy looking sectors in my other spawn dishes.

I must say that I'm baffled.

Edit:
More I look at that, more baffled I am. Even if you would have been able to shake your transfer around the plate, growth would not be that uniform in size. Never seen that.

Still wait. Looks questionable at best. Notice the aerial myc differentiating from the horizontal tomentose growth across the plate. Could also be lighting but some of the center mass seems a dingy gray. Need to keep in mind that competitor fungi is still contam. If you havent already xfered from your drop onto that plate, to another safe plate, i recommend you do that before it's too late. Needle prick that aerial growth to save what is there, then keep watch. Keep us posted.

Yeah as i said, the center mass is funky because the sector i took fell from my scalpel and landed upside down on the agar surface with residual agar face up.

I don't know why someone with some experience hasn't dropped in yet to break the news. That shit is fucked. 100% fucked. incontrovertibly and unabashedly Fucked. I'll admit that it is odd and kind of pretty but i see no signs of cubensis mycelium on that plate.

and, just so you know, putting a transfer with the myc down does not inhibit growth in any way. I've done thousands and thousands of transfers and decided that the only difference that face down transfers showed was a slightly quicker "leap off" to the new media.

DO NOT put any part of that plate into a grain jar unless you just want to see a grain jar go all fucky.
