That's a pereskiopsis?

Some opunetia. Dont know much beyond that. My dad got it somewhere and I found a damn near withered to death Cactus in a pot that I thought my mom destroyed but I guess not.  Anyways I just put it in a glass of water and it grew roots,  I planted it and kept planting the paddles that fall off.  Now I have quite a few.

I mainly think it would be neet to grapht a loph or trich to the top of that column stalk thing. I honestly don't know how I grew soang before this one,  I just started reading on how to actual do it correctly. Nature prevails

Looks like Brasiliopuntia brasiliensis. The pads of Opuntia can grow quite spindly in the shade, but this species in particular is a tree in habitat, with a real trunk.

It's a Lobivia/Echinopsis, but not one I'm familiar with. Spectacular flower!

Thanks Zed.

It is an interesting plant and a pain to re-pot.
It has very sharp spines and all the pups are very loosely attached and push out roots while on the mother plant.

I plan on making a looped self-graft with a Selenicereus grandiflorus, then lay it down in a pot, grow it as a log and maybe do some grafting on the shoots or other shenanigans.

I tried today but the piece wasn't really long enough and it is not exactly easy as you might imagine. So i will grow another shoot nice and long and will already pre-bend it.
I guess applying pressure will be one of the harder parts! Not sure if parafilm applied parallel to the cut will.. cut it.

Am curious about whether that works to give a cactus that has its vascular transport going in a loop (that is: until shoots develop). No idea how I would even test if there is a flow going or if the only direction is still only vertical as determined by pressure from the roots and evaporation from the stomata.

Can anyone comment on how this works with the direction of plant growth and also the implications of planting one upside down?

Also:
talking about pereskiopsis ^^ ... I did my first graft on P. aquosa recently, with a certain kind of loph. Both the loph head and the peres are definitely jumbo sized compared to regular loph-peres love affairs. Used thread to fix it on. Made me realize it is worth learning more about the cross section anatomy of different plants, esp how cambium / phloem grows.

This local nursery score this summer has quite the personality. I did not use any BAP or any besides nutrients.

Rimacactus laui. I have another ones that variegated. Someday I’ll get some seeds

The top one looks like Gymnocalycium damsii.

Mine did the same I think it’s a not to uncommon trait they can develop.

Looks like it has unusually high levels of cytokinins.. I wonder if the rootsystem is paying the price for it.

Lol.. i got other Strombocactus disciformis seeds, they are so incredibly tiny. How do you grow these without washing them too deep into the soil the first time you apply water?

I was planning to save some to do tissue culture, or at least germinate them on agar medium... However desinfecting the seeds and recovering them cleanly seems like a nightmare, I will have to autoclave a coffee filter or something?

Growing this Matucana madisoniorum grafted on peres (I also have two grafts on Selenicereus and three seedlings which are taking a rather columnar approach..)

However, inspired by a strange plant owned by 'BBW' namely an etiolated and grafted caespitose loph, I am now trying to keep the Matucana scion etiolated under a perforated cap of aluminum foil in the hopes of elongating it into ridiculousness.

idk wtf happened cause I don't think this plant is supposed to go caespitose but I am basically counting 5 heads right now..
maybe it somehow read my intentions...

In the background is what seems to be a sort of monkey skull i found in the woods in Germany, sprouting a Selenicereus like a Cordyceps.

More pics of the monkey skull?

Caespitose habit might be due to it being grafted. A lot of energy for a small globular to take. I had an Ortegocactus grafted for years that grew caespitose and quite columnar, which eventually succumbed to internal rot. Elongating your plant may eventually lead to this outcome. Just so you know.

Alright cool thnx for the tip, karode. I hope the energy is moderated for a while relatively speaking when another rootstock branch is allowed to grow higher than the scion (for added photosynthesis), which should give it apical dominance until it's time to prune it.
Rot type problems with grafts yea :\ lophs dont necessarily seem to get internal rot from being grafted super often do they?

@ Snakeye is that a hylo? I'm working on some undulata, megalanthus and costaricensis just to check how they work as medium sized rootstocks.. rot prone tho i hear.

I'm sure that's also right about pupping / caesping from being grafted although again: this is more than i am getting from my lophs and that even includes a caesp loph graft which is probably like an inch now and just working on its first pup..

Another example of this graft pupping here on this witch warty looking Frailea asteroides, and also pics of the skull. Help with ID would be cool.. seems to have herbivore molars, forgot if it had canine fangs that fell out and any incisors would be lost. Also a lot of cartilage from the nose area seems to be lost giving a gaping hole into sinuses.
I guess it could also just be a young specimen of a less exotic animal i am not thinking of.
