Ok, so after reading some old posts, I stumbled across some pictures of a familiar cacti. The following are of an extremely old cacti left at the house by someone who used to live with us. It has received horrible care and was many times forgotten . The poor thing is lucky it survived. Is this a San Pedro?
First Pic, Cacti showing rot/damage? The whole cacti is covered in dead leaves and flowers that have fallen onto it, it needs a bath.

Close up, blue things are flowers fallen onto it. Spines, but not very many

Another pic showing the damage

Thank you all very much. Also any advice for this specific type would be very much appreciated. I will also keep searching for more care tips.

that looks more like a fingus than any colomar cactus i have ever seen.
if it is some kind of anomylous T. pachanoi i'd be verry interested in any info or experience any one has.

shit, it looks like a crested pachanoi or peruvianus (see the long spines)... although many different species look very similar in their crested forms... take good care of it, no mater what genus it is!
it seems it's vase is terribly small! perhaps you should thin your plan (take cuttings) and start new plants in new vases... it looks very neglected indeed! btw, congrats!

Thanks for the help. I'm going to repot it and possibly take some cuttings. Hopefully I will get a hold of the owner soon, who can help me identify it. (he's a big deadhead, so, my hopes are up ).
No matter what species it is, I'm going to try and help this poor guy out. Very hardy, been living under some plants outside for quite some time (like two years), so I've got hope for him.

Ok, so, I went and removed a large dead section of the cactus (as seen in the first pic). inside was a FOUL smelling orange jelly-like substance. Assuming that this stuff was not good (it had what looked like small earwigs bugs in it) I cut away all of it up to the helthy parts of the cacti. It is now out in the sun and a repotting is in order soon. I am having trouble deciding how to take cuttings. There is really no long base (as in static's picture), can I just take off one protruding crest? Will that root? thanks

yes, that will root! it seems you've cut it just in time! take off even the surroundings of the orange spots and infection! just let your cuts callous and root like any cactus... the worst is when mealybugs catch your crested! i've lost a huge beautiful crested pilosocereus for them... =/
