I found this guy at Wal-Mart this morning.... looks similar to a Peruvian Torch to me..... please help in identifying it.

honestly i don't think it's a peruvian torch but i may be wrong. there are a lot of cacti that look very similar to others and places like home depot and wal-mart don't label their cacti and if they do it isn't by it's specific scientific type it's some made up name. even nurseries mislabel their cacti from time to time. you really have to develop a good eye to get cacti from those types of places. peruvian torch is considered a somewhat exotic strain and usually isn't sold at chain stores...that's why i always order cuttings and seeds from entheogenic shops, who specilize in those and those only.
it's a nice looking cactus though. i could be dead wrong as to if it's a torch or not, so don't get mad or discouraged.

i dont think its a peruvian torch either... probably in the same family though (Trichocereus).  trichocereus has something around 50 species in it, so its very possible that it is in the same genus, as it does share similar characteristics.  i'm no cacti expert, but from my experience it doesnt look like peruvian torch to me.  still really cool though :thumbup:
