When to start watering Cacti again?
    #550244 - 02/13/02 03:20 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I have various peyote/ T.peruvianus/ T.pachanoi that are dormant and unwatered for winter at the moment.
When should i start watering again?
How much/often for each species and what is a good procedure for fertilising?

High,

Where do you live? When spring is in full speed and summer is coming the need some water. When you life in Alaska I don't think you have to water them at all.

It all depend on the situation the cacti are confronted. Temp, sun, etc

I use a calcium rich liquid fertilizer and start out with half the recommended amount put into their monthly watering. The brand I use is called cactus juice. How do the plants look? Most of my cacti get watered only once a month. The south american varieties are watered bi-monthly. I don't eat my cactus so I don't know if that brand of fertilizer is recommended for plants for human consumption or not. But, it helps them grow big and strong. Are you moving your plants outdoors for the warmer seasons? Do so very slowly. Keep them in a well shaded area at first and only for a few hours a day, at first. Slowly keep them out longer and longer each day so they can acclimate.
