Which form of govt. do you think works best?
    #25661685 -

Which form of government is the most effective and just, in your opinion? As nearly as I can tell, the only truly decent form of government that we have seen through history is an enlightened monarchy -- in which a good or great leader does the right things with a degree of power that is abundant enough to institute them effectively. Unfortunately, such a type of government is very difficult to create, and essentially impossible to maintain for much longer than than one lifetime.

And so, most countries in most eras have been stuck with ineffective to bad to oppressive systems of government. It seems the only real solution would be for humanity to evolve a bit -- obviously, not a ready solution. So I'm wondering: What is the best system to you?

Canadian/British parliamentary seems to work best

I think the system we have in the US may be our downfall. Having a president and congress on opposite sides is completely retarded. Our legislative process is a cesspool

There are many flaws in the representative democracy we currently have, however, it has gotten us through some trying times. Efficiency of government can lead down a very dark path, there are numerous examples of such.

Gridlock was a fundamental aspect of our Constitution.  I vote for the opposite party of the Executive, every election, for this reason. No complete body of government should have a monopoly on power.

I do agree with koods about the cesspool.

TEchnically speaking the best form of government is a dictatorship.  They are very predictable due to having the same leader for decades at a time.

If it was feasiable the best for m of government would be one where all the people voted on all issues once a month or something.  But hey, that never gonna happen.

Perhaps the same thing Canada has but with a entry level test  to begin with.  You can't run unless you are somewhat knowledgeable. But that would stop a large group of people from being able to run and represent the same people as them....

Is there such a thing as a best form of government?  There are maybe 20 countries that have their shit together right now and there's maybe different systems going on and succeeding. There are another 20 that are getting there and there rest are failing badly still after centuries of existence...

Arbitrary lines have to exist in order to answer the question, yes. But clearly, I believe we can distinguish what forms of government are(have been) effective/shitty on a anthropological /historical scale. Clearly, there are numerous real world examples of failed states out there, comparatively.

He is also asking for one opinion.

None.

Trickle down intelligence does not work.
Only by engaging the whole as a whole may we possibly progress.

Trying to look for answers whilst operating under the force fed notions of a complacent and confused populace you will get confusion and complacency.

"Government" is a tool and a dulling agent one that we seemingly chose (but did not).

Approach the question as if it (govt) had never been.

To me I don't think the question really has a discreet answer. Based on our current system I think if we had a stronger mix of socialism it would be better, but only because that's a natural transition from where we are now. I'm sure as soon as that happens though I would see numerous other natural improvements that would impliment other forms of government. There's always something better, so the best form of government is one which constantly evolves and progresses with the people. That's about as best of an answer as I can give.

How do you engage the whole as the whole unless you form something in which to do so (eg government). What you're describing sounds like some form of anarchy where everyone magically works together without actually communicating a way in which to do so.

Its not magic when the incentives to do so are much clearer.

Its seen as voodoo because we are so far removed from a truely communal system where the individual is as equal as the whole.

You engage the whole by focusing on it as an individual.

You are correct that by todays paradigm and definition structure "anarchy" is between here and there.

That's why I like our USA form of government, the Constitution is an evolutionary (living) document.

There are only two forms of government possible: Rule by law, or rule by an oligarchy.  Every other system is one of those (monarchy, republics, dictatorships), or is not actually a workable system but a temporary period of transition from the rule of law to an oligarchy (democracy, anarchy).

And history has shown us that states ruled by law always devolve into oligarchies over time, but that most oligarchies do not morph into a system ruled by the law.  It's a one way street.  That's why the quote is that the tree of Liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants from time to time.

Not entirely true.  For a law to be a law, it must remain unchanging.  Socialist banana republics are the ones where the government can change the law at whim to make your legal behavior into something criminal and then prosecute you for it.

No game can be played when the rules as written don't matter and can be changed.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

The world is not so black and white and there are some major holes in your logic here.

1.) How does an oligarchy or dictatorship rule without law? Law is the basis of either model.

2.) I agree with your notion that free governments (say a democracy) tends to give rise to an oligarchy/dictatorship. However it seems short sighted in that you think that is somehow the end. The ensuing civil unrest arising from such governments naturally leads the populace to overthrow them and reinstate a government for the people with further safe guards and protections to prevent such oligarchies/dictstorships to arise again; the entire thing is a process, it doesn't end in dictatorship/oligarchy anymore thsn it begins as one.

Laws change in the U.S. every day, bro.  The government can change the laws at any time.

Right, if laws were never changing and permanent then it would stand to reason we wouldn't have any laws at all. Humanity created laws, we were not born(evolved?) into them.

Not under an absolute divine monarchy. Gods law has always been with us. That's why this is the form of government that works best.
