I recently saw some ideas about the bread and wine (body and blood of christ) being made from a mushroom. I think Bishop Pike was on to that before he died in the Israel Desert under strange circumstances. Philip K. Dick wrote a fictional account of this.

The Transmigration of Timothy Archer (VALIS Trilogy #3)

The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, the final novel in the trilogy that also includes Valis and The Divine Invasion, is an anguished, learned, and very moving investigation of the paradoxes of belief. It is the story of Timothy Archer, an urbane Episcopal bishop haunted by the suicides of his son and mistress - and driven by them into a bizarre quest for the identity of Christ.

Jesus Christ wasn't a mushroom.

Jesus was a representative of the purest form of Christ (consciousness).

The mushroom provides a portal to Christ.

Learn the history and venture to experience for yourself through surrendering your investment in your identity and material dependence during the mushroom experience.

It's really quite simple, because it's all you ever have been.

It is the love from your mother, your father, your family, your pets, love of yourself, love of everyone you've ever known and love of everything you've always known.  It's all you and everything you experience returns as yours.  All roads lead back to you in an all-embracing, self-containing conclusion, unveiled as an experience of your own love.  This is Christ.  It's you.

Find it.  It's real.  It's the most real thing there is, for it is everything.  Those who ridicule or propose other concepts are only manifestations of your own doubt and misdirection.

If you say so but I think it's just your opinion.  I've taken a handful of heroic doses of shrooms and often alone at night on strange mountain sides on the border between Calif/Oregon That wasn't my experience.

I'll bet it's really different for different people. But it must be nice to be so sure of everything. I think that's a christian thing because I remember the people in church being sure of everything too.

There is a lot of obvious controversy about John Allegro. He was discredited by most scholars, but then there is evidence that he was conspired against too. Clark Heinrich is a virtual friend of mine and this is also his perspective, but he doesn't take himself all that seriously. He wrote Strange Fruit which I believe has since been retitled Magic Mushrooms in Religion and Alchemy. Clark sees Amanita muscarias in virtually all medieval art! In The Sacred Mushroom, author Andrija Puharich claims evidence for Amanita muscaria use in ancient Egypt. He had to learn hieroglyphics first to make his point. There is archaeological evidence for the use of A. muscaria in early Christianity. An unearthed mosaic in an ancient basilica illustrates snails and A. muscaria. The mushrooms were fed to the snails which removed some of the toxicity, and the psychedelic snails were eaten, much like the 'reindeer juice' or urine of reindeer is imbibed after the reindeer has filtered some of the unwanted toxins. http://distelrath.tripod.com/fabbro.htm

I have studied the New Testament since graduating from seminary in 1978 and I have come to understand the highly midrashic and mythologized nature of the gospel accounts. You would have to understand both the Hebrew practice of writing madras, spiritual stories intended to convey certain truths. Midrash is NOT about journalistic or historical accuracy. There was no reporter from the Bethlehem Gazette taking notes about an astronomical anomaly, a roving 'star,' or a glow-in-the-dark infant in a manger. Rev. John Shelby Spong masterfully describes in Liberating the Gospels the creation of the New Testament stories on one level, but on an even deeper level D.M. Murdock documents how virtually every story in the canonical Bible was appropriated from the Egyptian Coffin and Pyramid texts in Christ in Egypt.

The identification of a deity with a mushroom can be found among the ancient Zoroastrians and their use of Haoma, and among the earlier Hindus where Soma is written about in the Rig Veda. These developments with regard to Iesous not being a human being partakes of the ancient 'heresy' of the Docetic Gnostics who claimed that Iesous had a phantom/astral appearance. The Gospel accounts of the Last Supper and the Passover seder in which Iesous presents Bread and Wine as his Body and Blood probably comes from Mithraism, the competing religion of the Romans, particularly the soldiers. It may well be a literary creation as it would've been alien to any Jewish origin. Mithras is a mythic being, born of a virgin on December 25th, and the initiations into that religion used ritual sacramental substances such as bread and wine and other foods to mark the various 7 sacramental stages (designated by animal names) of the adherent.

There is no archaeological evidence to prove that Iesous was code for the A. muscaria mushroom. Mainstream Christianity fought tooth and nail against any Gnostic sect that suggested that Iesous was not a flesh and blood man. Later scribal insertions into the NT cursed anyone who denied that "Iesous is come in the flesh" ( 1 John 4:1-3). His origin of course needs to be demythologized, assuming that there was a historical Iesous of Nazareth and that the Gospel stories were not purely literary creations aimed at focusing the many Jewish messianic prophesies on one man upon which the crumbling Roman Empire could rally around. Mithras was the competing deity, and Emperor Constantine chose Iesous. Mushroom use belongs to specific rites of Initiation, just as the ergot-based Kykeon was at the Rites of Eleusis in ancient Greece. But mushroom effects have been linked to understanding the mythic stage productions at Eleusis (based on Demeter and Persephone), just as the experience can give insight into the essential meanings of the Christian mythos. Jacob Boheme, the 16th century mystic had knowledge of mushroom experience and represented its connection with Christian theology.

A fine elaboration of Boehme's woodcut can be found in the book The Apples of Apollo by Carl Ruck et al. In this woodcut, various stages of mushroom development can be discerned, mycelium, pins, carpophore at center, and these stages also correspond with the 3 Persons of the Christian Trinity. There are other symbols such as the grapes and the open-closed eyes. BUT, the mushroom is more of a sacrament, a key, than an identification with deity. Bottom line: Iesous was (1) an historical figure, (2) a composite figure of several wisdom teachers (Albert Schweitzer), or (3) purely mythic (Tim Freke, Peter Gandy). But there is no real evidence that A. muscaria or any mushroom was the origination of the Christian mythos.

I believe I've already addressed the likely fact that your ego is veiling your potential in this area.

Therein, are two prominent and primary factors which perfectly demonstrate this and simultaneously prove that you've miscomprehended.

You reference 'heroic doses'.  There are no heroes. It's not about the self.

Christ consciousness is non-local so it makes no difference where you are. It's not about the material.

It's about your surrender of those very things in your psyche.

Christ too is not about being a Christian and it is but one descriptor of what other religions share to indicate the state of being where the mind has raised awareness of its essence.

Heroic doses is a term coined by Terence McKenna to signify doses over 5 grams dried and I used it to signify that a large dose was used in the same way he did. No ego involved

We're back to your subjective opinion of your experience which is just that. You can call your subjective experiences anything  you want but that doesn't mean much.

Maybe you got the ego thing going thinking you've experienced Christ consciousness.

I'm aware of the term and where it derived.  The point is, there's no need to use it unless you are transfixed with the self and the quantity you are ingesting, rather than what you want to gain from the experience.

What I describe as Christ is exactly what it is, experienced and described by those who have experienced and noted by countless theologians and philosophers to name but a few.  Likewise 'Buddahood', is widely used and understood uniformly to mean the same thing.

I've experienced Christ as a non-Christain and live with it.  It's life-changing.  Hopefully, you'll relinquish your ego and you'll someday witness the same.

You need to get over yourself.  You're just full of your own righteousness and can't except the idea that someone else's experience could be completely different and not for reasons of ego or what you think reality is.

I hope you come down off your throne someday.:heart:

I never thought that I would step up in defense of Icelander, but here I am saying to you that it is YOU who are laying YOUR trip on him! Christ Consciousness or R.M. Buckets "Cosmic Consciousness" are modern renderings of the biblical "being in Christ." What I am witnessing about you as apt is the saying in Luke 6:42, "How can you say, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' while you yourself fail to see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

You are not unique in having had a mystical or visionary experience in a Christian idiom without having been raised in a Christian milieu. It happened to me and a LOT of people historically. The Christian myths are all contained in  the collective unconscious of Humankind of which the Christian idiom is but one iteration of many cultural and historical manifestations. The demigod who is born of a virgin, suffers a torture-death (often some form of dismemberment as with Dionysus, Osiris, Ixion, Prometheus, etc.), who dies, resurrects, and ascends is an archetypal, universal theme. Whether the Iesous narratives are historical is a matter of faith not evidence.

You sound literalist and if so, your understanding is necessarily superficial! You are still needing to be fed with "milk, not with meat, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready" (1 Corinthians 3:2). That said, it is obvious that you are not ready to understand the Christian stories as salvific myths because you are laying a trip! Be like the Sun, not the Wind. When the Sun and North Wind competed on which one was going to get a man to remove his coat, the more the Wind tried to blow the man's coat off, the more tightly did the man clutch his coat to himself. When the Sun had his turn, he just glowed, radiated warmth naturally. Pretty soon the man warmed up so much, he removed his coat by himself. You still don't grok this but apparently...

"...you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity..." - Hebrews 6:1

The bottom line: you are just not as mature about your faith as you think you are if you're still laying Christ-trips on other people, including Icelander. "Heroic doses?" indeed. If you want to understand what the term hero or heroic really means, you'd have to read and grok Joseph Campbell's book The Hero With 1000 Faces, because you deflected away from an experience that Icelander was trying to communicate to you by your shallow dismissal of the word "heroic." The hero's journey, historically, culturally, psychologically, spiritually, takes one to the Underworld as well as to the Empyrean (to use classical terms), or to use Humphrey Osmond's modern version:

"To fathom Hell, or soar angelic, just take a pinch of psychedelic."

You and I have defended each other in the past as well as clashed. We were once friends and even phone chatted. I probably acted like and ass though and you wrote me off.  Can't blame ya. I can be a real shit. I think I'm a tad better this time around but it's hard for a leopard to change them dirty spots.  However my views on spirituality have taken a dramatic turn during my couple of year absence. I've had some very strange things come into my world and I'm not very sure anymore this is just a material world. I got interested in NDEs and it took me on a tangent I didn't even know existed and if there is some truth in what I've found  it would answer some major questions that have been bugging me most of my life. You know I had no idea what Gnostic Christianity was about. I thought it was some kind of kinder gentler christianity which of course I would approve of but it's got way more going on than that and it connected up with some research on ancient Sumerian cuneiform tablets and their mythology and on and on down the rabbit hole.

Intriguingly, yet regrettably, you are laying down excess information, exercising your own egoic-mind in a condescending manner which far exceeds the fashion I adopted and you are exemplifying this figurative beam in the eye and hypocricy.

Hence, this oxymoronic quote is clearly for your own utlisation:

Quote:
You've got some learnin' to do son. :yesnod: Leave your egoic-mind by the door to higher education, self-taught or academic.

Again, 'heroic' doses are not at all related to Christ, regardless of the source and it wasn't stated that I assumed uniqueness as a non-Christian.  Coincidentally, the point stated an stressed was that anyone can obtain Christ when they relinquish the things which seemingly block passage to it.  In no instance too, was Christ literally defined and it was clearly stated that Christ is but one iteration.  There is no call to take dosage or terminology of dosage into regard or to read that particular book.  You've merely tried to emphasize that you've read another book and thus, we consequently slide further from the essence of what the subject matter is actually about.

Christ is conveyed by example of act, yet there is nothing at all untoward about stressing the fact particularly within a restrive medium, that it does indeed exist, however subjective it may be, to encourage a person not to close down within themselves, but to open up to potentialities - the process known as 'faith', rather than disregarding outright.  When Christ is found, it is absolutely known and it serves a game changer.  Needless to say, such wisdom of knowing how to open the heart, rather than a cherished book, is sure to garner more fulfilling conclusions.

My efforts, though remote from perfect, are perhaps more effective than labelling the next person 'son', whilst we ironically try to communicate the Sonship, insisting too that a person needs to be of 'higher-education' in order to comprehend and harbour it.  In that single fell swoop you've managed to epitomize what Christ is not about, whilst bolstering your own ego.

As a supposed 'Elder', it's best to lend an ear, or indeed, an eye, to analyse the land, and indeed onself, before deciding to become a tiger, lest you'll succumb to chewing your own tail.

Bravo.  You've asked a question which should have admittedly been asked earlier due to an absence of the actual experience being stated, yet instead, there was misdirection and prominence placed on dosage and location.....

Really short version. Felt like I completely dropped into my subconscious our unconscious mind. The totality of it was whatever was happening in my mind. There was awareness there was knowledge but it was all limited and my own. there was no way to tell what reality actually was because it was beyond comprehension  I got the message that everything we tell ourselves is a limited story and suspect due to our emotional makeup. That's what I have taken away from a lifetime and hundreds of trips of differing varieties. From Salvia to MDMA. If anything I would say Tao comes closest to expressing it. That the Tao is unknowable. End of story for me.

No to put a name on it (even Tao) is to miss the reality that it's incomprehensible. It's all there the good the bad the ugly and no way to tell what it means. So we make up stories like "Christ" so we can focus on the good rather than the bad and the ugly because we don't want it to be equal with the good and maybe even more important. No way to tell for sure. Almost all humans seek certainty from what I experience and see all around me and when none may exist we make  up a story. We are storytellers as much as anything.

To me a big part of my spirituality is to float in uncertainty and surrender to that and face the anxiety it provokes. I crave certainty too but when I'm honest with myself I can't find it. I'm tired of stories that don't satisfy my inner  integrity. That little voice that says to me, "you don't really know that".

I think a lot like this guy.
