Of course it would take time but you need the money now and I'm sure so long as people are assured it will happen there will be many who will support you now. This has already been talked about quite a bit, I wish I could find the thread, but if I remember correctly it even had support from a few of the people who do the coding but they didn't want to start work on it until after the BB upgrade (although I personally feel there was a different upgrade they were waiting on.)
As for being unfair to others it was all discussed in the other thread so no need to clutter this one but it just came down to nothing changing for any users just that some would have expanded benefits.

Just some technical advice thrown in.

A hardware firewall will NOT solve the current DDOS situation. The only way to solve such a problem is to have so much bandwidth and a large enough netowrk that you can effectivly not care about how much traffic is being throw at you.

Even if a hardware firewall for 30 grand was thrown in, the limited bandwidth would still be saturated and would still cause the site to be down.

I would donate $10 or something to that extent for sure as long as it goes to the shroomery cause its such a beautiful place. I got lots of love for the shroomery, its time they get a influx of good karma back, instead of always giving to us  :rasta: :heartpump:

As a rule, I have always generally tried to avoid these people, but unfortunately, that's harder to do in cyberspace than in real life...

If you don't want to buy more bandwith (since it is actually spending money that might not be available) it would be best to trace the original computer sending the ftp dialogue (sp?) if it's thousands of computers sending it i'd bet good money it's just some script kiddy mirroring on random servers. so what you should do is trace and find the bastards computer and break off any transfer connections either that or start sending him trojans and see if he likes to be fucked with back...hee hee

i could help you trace the guys try to trace the guy, i'd prob. need access to your guys' network though and i dont know if thats something you guys want to do, none-the-less Cmonkey@sonic.net if you're interested

I had just about finished the membership system before I left the administration here. THere is no way in hell I would give them all the code I worked on after what they did to me. Let them spend a few hundred hours writing code...

3D has a right to be upset at The Shroomery.

I highly doubt he is attacking the site though. 3D takes server attacks seriously. He used to perma-ban folks here for THREATENING to attack the server. If you ask me, 3D knows better than to attack another shroom site... besides, it isn't a good way to permanently increase his traffic.

I can think of at least five other people who would have a reason to attack this site... but they are just suspicions. It wouldn't be fair to point fingers.

Remember... Innocent until proven guilty.
