you're right, it wasn't a very diplomatic means of conveying what I wanted to say.
in addition to what CJ mentioned, it seems that there have been numerous times where a clear consensus among the admins has not been reached.
or they point back and forth...
it wasn't us, it was theeeeeemmmmm
I don't want geo to kick me in the nuts, so I'll drop it.

Perhaps a rule should be added that admins/mods can't discuss bannings with regular members. That way we can all just get on with our lives, and not blame anyone for not explaining themselves.

"Perhaps a rule should be added that admins/mods can't discuss bannings with regular members." I don't think this is necessary. People can always bitch and wine (in OTD ), and it's good for a mod or admin to be able to come around and explain the reasons for the ban such that the membership doesn't think the staff is a bunch of power hungry nazis who're just pushing buttons for fun. However, it would be nice to see people drop the whole dragging out of settled issues
afoaf: "it seems that there have been numerous times where a clear consensus among the admins has not been reached." I hope that will end with the new set of guidelines here. It was designed to combat such situations. You have to realize that the administration is run democratically - and though one or two may not agree with the decision, they will stand by it because the majority rules. In the past, I know that I've personally complained about some things because they weren't adequately discussed before action was taken, and I'm sure other admins have felt the same way. But like I said, we're aiming to make that a non-issue.

Somthing I've been wondering about is ... Does the shroomery log IP addresses or not? If yes, IMO, it would be wise to advise members even with puppets to go through proxys before posting in cult forums.

It means no puppets, seeing as Pinnochio is a puppet and there's a big circle around him with a line through it
As far as IPs go, if you want to be completely safe then yes get a Proxy server to connect through. IPs are retrieved by the server in order to transfer data. The odds of anyone being found out through their IP is extremely slim. Most people don't have a reason to mask their IP and the chance that the IP would be used to find you is so minimal that it certainly isn't something I worry about.

why not just run the boards like slashdot with a user given rating to the posts? then the crap just sinks to the bottom. it's not like everyone says something relevant in every post, it would be nice to just read the first 5 and know that they'll have content. And then trolls - and people who value free speech, however visceral- won't have anything to bitch about.

I find it ironic that the admins are allowed a puppet to ban and post when they dont want their identity revealed but users arnt.

> "I find it ironic that ..."
We use the administrator puppet to carry out uniform decisions. In the event we have discussed a matter and come to agreement, we will use it as a "sign-off" on behalf of all of us. Whenever I perform an action without consultation - for example if I am merely banning a puppet account that came to my attention - I'll always make the banning with my own username and include my email address so that the banned user can contact me in case I errored.
Users are also allowed puppets (which they must notify us of) to post in the cultivation related forums if they want their identity protected from the public. In this case, we will restrict their account to applicable forums. In fact, many users already have cult puppets and the system works quite well. There is no need for puppet accounts in the community forums because that would defeat the purpose of getting to know people.

Funny how when it was created one of the reasons were to ban people and not have them know who they were banned by. And to make comments without having to show your face. Which in my mind is a puppet.

>not have them know who they were banned by
That?s exactly the point: They get banned after a decision of the Shroomery administration. So it?s only RIGHT they use a "puppet" for this, since it?s not a decision of a single person.

Its probably becuase they run the site!! Really there is not much to complain about here as for the way its run. Its so easy to get along with people here I have a hard time putting myself in a mindset for complaining!! I mean if your not an ass hole then you wont have a problem with the admin or anyone else for that matter.
If we were all here together in the real world would people be running around yelling for attention and bitching? I dont think so, we would be getting high together and trippin!! How the hell can anyone complain about his place? It has more freedom than a lot of other places! These people go out of they're way for this place for nothing because they care about it!! Its the shroomery and its a passion. Thats like someone telling me to change my music and guitar playing to they're needs. They can fuck off I would rather have constructive critisism and I can at least learn from it in a possitive way. If you cant make a respectful complaint or suggestion your not going far anywhere in life. There are two choices one can make at the shroomery. Be respectful or be an ass hole. Its not much more complicated that!! Why dont ya go bitch at the government all all the other evil in the world instead of wasting time here??
Christ when I think about all the work and hassle I would have to go through just to rouse attention of the admin it wouldn't be worth it!! Its so hard to break rules here you cant complain!! Ive been here for almost 5 years and havent had any problems at all! Why not go do something to help somebody or at least make a stand doing somthing worth your effort!!
Anyways thats my personal opinion!!

What exactly comprises harassment?
In some criminal codes, harassment constitutes behavior that would cause a person to fear for their safety. That kind of thing would be unlikely here, but what qualifies harassment?
Repeated PMs? PMs involving images of graphic violence? A combination of PMs and slanderous posts about a user?
I ask because there's some behavior that I would expect that even one infraction could easily be considered harassing (eg. PMs that would clearly be disturbing to a user) and that pretty much any forum user should know not to engage in.
