That's correct NothingsChanged often there is dung around. So they say exactly that not on manure but on manured ground.
P.alutacea wears off quick. So it has that in common with the P.pelliculosa lookalikes I tried. I noticed that when I grew P.alutacea in containers they were weak. Then when they were fruiting prolifically in Autumn they were much stronger in effect. From what I've noticed the psychedelic part of the high only lasts a couple of hours max even when they are potent.
The ringing in the ears is still noticeable even the next day.

I often wonder what those mushrooms that were called golden meanies were. They were P.cubensis colouring on the cap. They grew on sheep dung and looked like a liberty cap.

Having only encountered them once I don't know. There were heaps of them growing in a colony where the commune people had put sheep manure around a fruit tree.

They did look a lot like P.alutacea but they were supposed to be very potent. Since I wasn't allowed to eat them I don't know. The friend staying there rang me up and said they were heavy and dark in effect. So that doesn't sound like P.alutacea.

I really thought people from Australia would have heard of them. Obviously they haven't so they'll remain a mystery that I want to solve everytime I think about them.

Easier said than done in Australia when it comes to sheep country. Golden meanies are probably common. P.semilanceata is most likely far more widespread in Australia as well.

Problem is getting access to sheep paddocks. Especially around New England district. Not what I want to do uninvited. Other option join the commune where they were growing. No thanks. I'm just putting it out there with no xenophobic intent Hashed. I want to know if other Australians have encountered them.

These shrooms that we only know by the common name of "Golden Meanie", only ever mentioned by the likes of yourself.

What is the whole back story about them?
Why on earth were you "not allowed to eat them"?

Some people want to "catch them all" and play that new pokemon game un-aware that they are under constant surveillance the fuck-tards.
I however, want to "eat them all", in reference to eating all the psilocybin species and strains.

So let's find that "Golden Meanie"

Either it is a phenotype of an already known specie or it is a new un-described species, either way, find those Golden Meanies.

Back in 1988 a friend of mine living at Katoomba asked if I'd give him a lift to the commune Ohm shalom. He told me they have a mushroom there called the golden meanie. He had a friend in Katoomba who had been living at that commune.

Long story short because I wrote the whole story on shaman austalis back in 2015. We drive into the commune off the Bruxner highway. They had painted a painting of a golden meanie on the way in for all to see. This was in August  it's still Winter. The next morning I had to go to Sydney but before I left my friend showed me the golden meanies growing around the fruit tree.

I asked can I pick some. They said yes if I eat them there. I said that I had to go and can I have some? They said no I will have to eat them there. So I left feeling a bit shitty about it all.

My friend rang me up months later complaining about the place. I asked him if he had tried those golden meanies? He said yes but he didn't like them because they were mean etc. He wanted me to pick him up and drive him down to Melbourne. I said no and I haven't heard from him since.

I googled psilocybe species that grow on sheep manure. That didn't tell me much. In Stamets book Psilocybin mushrooms of the world there was one species that grows on sheep manure. I don't have that book now. It has a severe deficit of Australian psilocybe species so it's not much use anyway:frown:

Thanks Blazer420. The colony Bagels found looked amazing. Wish they would fruit like that here.

March-April they get quite large too. Up to 40mm across the cap so far. Their morphology changes too with a thicker stem and more solid cap. Rest of the year they are mostly tiny looking more like P.semilanceata or P.alutacea with 20mm across the cap being a large one.

Impressive pic Blazer420:cool: I'd like to see them coming up like that here.

Us bloody ozzies can't match you crazy kiwis for sheer variety of psilocybin species yet, but we're working on it.

Last post compare the first image of the P.alutacea with the swollen stem with the leaves for size comparison. It's a monster for that species.

Thanks NothingsChanged:smile:

Yes Hashed these ones are fruiting off horse dung. They also fruit on kangaroo and wallaby dung.

It was a very hot day for Winter. I went down the brumby paddock and collected a bag full of horse manure. I then called in and had a look at the P.alutacea next door that I photographed this morning. They had all started to dry out and shrivel up.

So I collected the pieces of horse dung that had the dried out specimens on them. Put the bag of manure in a large plastic container and wet it thoroughly. I then positioned the dried out ones on top and wet them as well.

Four hours later I took the lid off and there were lots of rehydrated P.alutacea greeting me. I'll take a pic tomorrow then follow their progress daily.:mushroom2:
