Portland liberty caps?
    #2106092 - 11/14/03 01:41 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Found in the grass in a Portland park on Thursday. Have not picked in many years and want to confirm that these are semilanceata. The caps were drying out so I was not able to get a good spore print. The gills are adnexed at the stem. They are grayish brown colors. Caps and stems are varying from a light to dark brown. The stems are enlarged at the base.

Sorry, but that is a common lawn dweller in the genus of Mycena. Inactive.

yeah, those little things are all over the place. If only they WERE active! I have not seen liberty caps in Portland proper. They seem to prefer unkept grass such as patures as compared to parks where there is mowing over the summer - at least I have never found a liberty cap in a park / golf course type envoronment.

Cyans now, them's different. Parks are an excellent place to watch for them lurking in the boundries between grass and bushes.

Edit by Gumby: Sorry mj, that one was just a little bit too specific. Nothing personal, just enforcing the rules
