Mission now is to get some pics of some northern SA p alutacea for your amazing thread. Good rain and some temp drops out here so should be some wet streams and kangaroo poo everywhere! First time in my life I have been excited for kangaroo poo. Have you gone back and read from the first page of this thread? I think someone else pointed out (NC?) that it's a good read again and it is.

It sure is. I'll see if I can supply pics of the SSA variety.

It's these little beauties I'd love to find here in SA. No avail so far. They're a very special psilocybe. My eyes are working overtime scanning the gorund for something like this. The amount of trees I'm walking into in the process..

That's perfect habitat. Pull some out at the base and you'll often find blue bruising mycelium. Thing with printing them is the common lookalikes will also give a purple brown spore print. S.Semiglobata and D.Coprophila that is

Hey thanks for the P.alutacea pics, ericos bob and NBYK.

I'm on my mobile because of no solar power today. Yes NBYK the stems say P.alutacea and not Stropharia semiglobata. Morphology says they don't look like D.coprophilla.

I agree look for bluing at the base of the stem or wherever there is damage. I'll have a good look at the pics tomorrow. Think I'll take a wander next door as well and have a look for P.alutacea.
Thanks and keep those pics coming.

I've only found P.tasmaniana in 2 places ericos bob. Both have one thing in common. They go under water after heavy rain. Then as the water subsides they appear around the water washed leaf piles. They sure are hard to see when it's wet. Best to look for them after the sun's been out for a couple of days after a rain event.

By then some of the caps will be going pale and they stand out like little beacons

Hey NothingsChanged that little pic of the man eating the mushroom then melting describes how those Psilocybe cyanescens made me feel. Thanks for posting it.  Are you planning a cyanescens trip soon? 3.5g hits the sweet spot? If you went to 4g would you be guaranteed meltdown at some stage of the trip? Sorry about all the questions but I can relate to those meltdown trips.

Are you too far north for ovoids?

Anything over 3.5 i risk the woodlover paralysis. Not really into that these days. 3.5 seems good. plenty high but also relatively still in control. I can still function enough incase my company is needing anything or situations arise that needs dealing with.
Cultivated ovoids are starting to show up around these parts. I haven't seen any. but they are about.

Thanks NothingsChanged:cool: I know what you mean about having to retain some control. When I used to go legless then the rest of woodlover paralysis set in I couldn't do anything but wait.

A "friend" who hated mushrooms gave me a hard time the first time it happened to me in his presence. I didn't learn from that and dropped 6g dry of P.cyanescens before going to his place one night. I was out the front door in a flash when they started to kick in. His dogs were in the backyard so I couldn't go that way into the bush.

I didn't get far. Just down into the bush not far from his place and collapsed in amongst the bracken fern.

Now I'm on my computer again I just have to say beautiful pic ericos_bob.

Your pics are pretty good too NBYK. They are better than mine. Those specimens in your pics look like P.alutacea.

Here's some from next door growing on horse manure that's at least 10 months old. Ones a bit blurry.

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Hi Blazeyy and thanks. On shroomery ID for P.alutacea it compares P.alutacea with P.semilanceata. Differences being P.alutacea is a dung loving species.

We now know through DNA sequencing from alvalab.es and Alan Rockefeller that P.alutacea is actually closer to P.pelliculosa.

Nice updates on your local P.Alutacea Heyowana. I love seeing them fruit off horse manure. So many more fruit bodies than from roo dung. I've hunted in areas where there is horse roo and cow dung and the P.Alutacea are only ever growing on roo dung. It's interesting to know they're closer to P.Pelliculosa. On Wikipedia they state psilocybin content in P.Pelliculosa varies from 1.2 to 7.1mg/g. That's quite a range if P.Alutacea bare any similarity in potency. 7.1mg/g is approaching the potency of psilocybe subaeruginosa

That's interesting ericos_bob about the potency of P.alutacea varying so much. I know it has for me and now you have provided evidence of this fact. Sometimes I'd be disappointed that they reminded me of P.pelliculosa lookalikes I've found out Hampton with their low potency. Other times the confusion and heat reminded me of the high potency of meanies(Copelandia cyanescens)

I'd say that one you posted a page back with the red/brown cap would be potent.

Ive always thought P.semilanceata was a dung lover?

But there's dung in the equation right? Just not directly fruiting from the dung.
