I couldn't remember much of the trip pineninja. Memorable parts were walking down the hill and seeing all this cartoony stuff like in those "merry melody" cartoons. I kept hearing the same voices over and over again. They started nagging me because they wouldn't shut up and were talking faster and faster until it sounded like another language.

Often on mushrooms I hear foreign sounding languages and start saying the words to try and make sense out of it. Anyway after I got to the bottom of the hill it was hard to walk because of the overload going on in my head. It was getting stronger and I remember walking crawling up a slight hill because I didn't want to be near the creek.

Fire seems to be my element and on mushrooms when tripping, water can send me into a negative mindset. After getting out of the valley a bit I just laid down and kept imagining myself going in circles around and around the world. I woke up hours after this because I had blacked out. The moon was up and it was dark.

I don't plan on doing that again.

P.tasmaniana are popping up a couple a week. It has been very cold with the nights getting down to zero.

Thank you very much forrest_dweller:smile: Words like that make my day.

NothingsChanged all I can say is you are a generous, kind person because you made me a gift of 3 months subscription to shroomery. You have been supportive right through this thread. You are a wood lover enthusiast. Would like to meet you one day. Until the laws change that might be hard because I can't travel to the USA. Not sure about states where dope is legal. The law is an ass. Wish I hadn't found out how much it is though.

NBYK your me mate I reckon.

Couple more P.tasmaniana

Heyowana, have you found certain populations of P.Alutacea are more potent than others?

:whathesaid:

I don't know if anyone in SA has tried any of them yet, not from anything I've heard anyway. Be good to get a rough 'level/weight' guide for them but neither myself or Heyowana seem to be qualified to test that.

Thanks NothingsChanged:cool:

ericos_bob, the biggest factor affecting potency was the age of the mushroom. Fresh specimens were more potent. In fact one day I made sure I picked the fresh ones only picking 30 and got quite out of it for a while. They don't seem to hang in for long though compared to P.tasmaniana and P.subaeruginosa for example.

What I mean by fresh specimens are the ones that have come up fresh as opposed to the reconstituted ones from the previous wet period. Those ones will have a different look to the cap. There will be little cracks under magnification. They are not that potent at all.

NBYK where I was picking them is about half an hours walk away. When I cut them with scissors by the time I get home they are dark royal blue where I made the cut. If I pull them out it takes a lot longer to notice bluing which is usually at the base.

Scissors make the job easier because where the fruiting body is growing there are smaller ones forming. So less damage to the potential colony.

I'll do more controlled experiments next season weighing the dosage and observing the effects in relation to the level 1-5 scale. Good luck this season down in SA. Let me know how it goes if either of you care to dose with P.alutacea.

I'd be very interested to see pics if you did cut them with scissors to see how long the bluing reaction takes.:mushroom2:

Yeah makes sense the fresh ones being more potent. Look forward to ome controlled experiments:cool:
Starting to notice the different phenotypes around SA. Some populations bruise extensively on the caps and length of stipe and others only ever at the base. The red/brown capped phenotype is most common so far. The yellow caps I've only found from a patch in the far south.

yellow

red

Yeah great shots. That red/brown capped one looks really choice. I can see the bluing coming through all along the stem and through the cap like you are saying. Hope you give them a go sometime.

Thanks NothingsChanged and Heyowana

I also love the bluish tinge they get around the perimeter of the cap. I'll see if I can't get some better shots of bluing in future. I reckon I will collect some specimens as the season slows. I've spent more time looking for P.Alutacea this season than subs. They're not as common but as you say they're such a photogenic species plus I like the change in scenery when trekking through the more open grasslands and scrub.

ericos bob I have to agree with NBYK. Your photos are wonderful.

NBYK I had to chuckle when I read your thread on your post count. There's some good stuff on The Dropbear awareness society.

I was thinking about your comment up above about you and I not being good testers for the potency of P.alutacea. I get that wrapped up in being serious about psychedelic mushrooms. Too serious often to enjoy them for what they are. Expectations about potency on my part often don't happen. Lifes too short for me to be so obsessed about it.

A friend used to wear a T shirt that said I take drugs seriously. He wasn't kidding. I remember printing one that said Dionysus forever. It had 2 Amanite muscaria mushrooms on it. Taking mushrooms was different back then for me. It was a magical tour of the inner worlds.
Today I feel that it has lost some of that magic. So I take good amounts dosage wise to make up for it.

 I meant no offence by you wouldn't be qualified, you are on the extreme end and I am.... well, a pussy. :lmafo: I take it serious too mate, I think you might have to.. We'd be dead or in jail if we didn't. Yeah I like that Drop Bear forum, good to see you noticed my shit-posting there.:grin:

And some of the shit we've been through needs to be shared as I never had that 'safety' (Shroomery:heart:) BITD when I was putting god knows what in my mouth. One of my favourite expressions from back in the day... "I've had some of my best nights off the floor". Just picture a rave dance floor instead of a forest and you get the idea.

Here is a pretty obvious observation from the northern Adelaide hills regarding p. alutacea - they don't grow where it's been burnt (over 1 year now)... because there is no roo shit yet.

Mission now is to get some pics of some northern SA p alutacea for your amazing thread. Good rain and some temp drops out here so should be some wet streams and kangaroo poo everywhere! First time in my life I have been excited for kangaroo poo. Have you gone back and read from the first page of this thread? I think someone else pointed out (NC?) that it's a good read again and it is.

Little P.tasmaniana.

Thanks Fractallopsybe:cool:

I was thinking NBYK that we would make great testers for activity in P.alutacea. It's actually good to get statistics from both ends of the spectrum. As long as they come from a diverse group tolerance wise and there are enough samples being tested. So get cracking SA P.alutacea hunters. It would be interesting to see P.alutacea on the dosage calculator one day.

He sure is a great photographer knarkkorven:smile: I would welcome any photos from ericos_bob. For that matter NBYK the same goes for you. If you post them here I'll give you plenty of comments about those different strains of P.alutacea. Look forward to seeing those pics.:mushroom2:

NBYK in the long run the potash from the burn't grass will get that grass and mushrooms growing. Burning destroys the topsoil though if it's done on a regular basis. This happens every year in the drier country near where I live now.

Farmers get out there and burn it off to get some good feed for their cows later on. It destroys the soil eventually on hillsides that have been cleared too much. All the topsoil gets washed away. Erosion sets in and it isn't sustainable practise.

When I lived out Dalmorton I lived on a steep bush block that was crescent moon shaped. On one end of it there were about 40 acres totally cleared. It was burnt out just before I moved in. The amount of soil that would get washed down onto that cleared flat after a good thunderstorm. It was sad to see. There were little creeks going up into the hills at the back of my place.

At the bottom of these creeks I'd find piles of cigarette lighters. They weren't mine and I could guarantee they weren't the property of the previous owners. Old habits die hard with some folk.

I remember picking Galerinas in the early 1980's. They would grow near the P.subaeruginosa. One part of the bush that's all I could find because it was a bit dark in there. I'm looking at the stem with it's dark hue and wishful thinking made me hang onto them for a while. They had an annulus but I was inexperienced then. No one I met was picking P.subaeruginosa in Sydney back then. There were rumours that people would find them down Lane Cove way but I never met anyone picking them around Beecroft, Pennant hills, Cheltenham or Epping. So there wasn't much word of mouth info about them.

Few P.subaeruginosa popping up here. Last night wasn't cold because it was raining lightly. I just need to stop eating everyone I find and make a collection.
