The fact that people can live for decades without eating meat and be medically proven to be equally as healthy as meat eaters proves meat is unnecessary in our diet. There's thousands of options for protein, amino acids, fatty acids etc..

Protein is necessary for a healthy diet but not meat protein necessarily.

Perhaps we could reduce the number of cows killed by supplementing the meat with other animals. You know broaden our horizens. Squirrels, pigeons, frogs. Selling ground beef that was diluted with other animals could reduce the number of cattle being slaughtered.

Just don't be mad when you realize you did not specify the species of bees nor living or dead.

I'll be damned if you're eating my honey bees!  :grrr:

Insects are a common staple from Asia to south america. High in protiens and other nutrients.... There's a push right now in the west mainly the U.S. to make insects appeal to American consumers. I think im more okay with this than the amount of animals slaughtered although I still won't be partaking.

I've eaten energy bars made with crickets
If I didnt know what they were made of I wouldn't have guessed.

I'd like to stop eating fish soon, I only started eating it due to my injury, my surgeons practically begged me to eat salmon until I was healed. I'm not a huge fan of the taste or texture.

This actually. Lobster has amazing protein and vitamin/mineral content and it's literally the cockroach of the ocean.

I eat both meat and plants. I feel weak if I don't eat any meat and considering my size and activity level it is understandable. I feel great eating a mixed diet of fish chicken red meat dairy shellfish veggies fruit. When I feel like shit is if I get stuck in a routine for diet where it's the same shit over and over like my system gets out of balance or something by having to much or to little of a nutrient.

Amazing way to tell if what you are eating is agreeing with you, your shit. I poop 2-3 times a day solid healthy logs. Sometimes their even the ghosties

There are  vegan body builders who can put many meat eating body builders to shame, saying you couldn't support your diet without it and be as big as you are to me is not a good excuse it'd be a hell of a life style change but its easily possible.

Poop is pretty much the oracle of digestion XD :crazy2:

Didn't read thread.  I was a veggie for the past 5 months.  My motivation was peter singer.  It was fantastic and I felt so god damn good about myself.  I even went so far as to only date veggies.

Then I was offered a free meal with steak in it and remembered how amazing meat tastes.  I gave up vegetarianism officially about 10 days ago.  I still eat mostly veggie.  I eat meat about twice a week.  It's empowering.

When I was a vegetarian, my average meal cost was 47 cents.  That's some damn good motivation.  Rice is a savior.

No mr olympia has ever been vegan and the vegan body builders compared to the ones consuming fish poultry steak and eggs are a joke.

6 foot (1in) 225 olympic lifts and isolation every other day for 1-30 to 2 hours. I eat 4-5 times a day and don't even count calories anymore as when I do progress slows. I see claims but no proof, and majority of these bodybuilders/ power lifters gained majority of their mass on a meat based diet later switching to a vegan then touting it like a retard for PR as a great healthy way to gain mass. I've done the research. We evolved eating meat nothing wrong with it unless someone has that "enlightenment complex" which is a whole nother story with me. People bitch about eating animals yet I never hear how pollution is causing a plethora or health problems especially in the generations just being bored. But nah lets blame meat so we can live an alternative lifestyle and then look down on those who see it as it is, a health fad. I've even had a vegan friend try to right up a diet for me for protein needs and all that shit, carbs easily covered but the amount of food I need to eat to gain quality muscle mass and strength on a vegan diet is unrealistic.

I did not say all, I have vegan body building friends who are much better fit  than some who do eat meat... Im not making a claim for a majority only the possibility.

Pollution is a huge problem but another one all together, the meat industry contributes to this as does any farming but farming can be done in ways that help reduce this much more so than meat production.

I don't have quarrels with your choice to eat meat, It does sound if you spite those who choose not to though and who say it contributes positively to this world... Because it does in many ways. Even if thats more meat for you in your eyes :lmafo: .... We didnt start off eating meat right away... it came later but of course its become part of our evolution but its much harder on our bodies to process the complex nitrogenous bases found in those amino acids and proteins.

I don't blame meat for the worlds problems, but it does contribute. Its not a fad to me, I just try to live simply and on less. For myself i strive to leave as little footprint anyway I can and no eating meat is just one of them.

But again this is just my choice, Ill say my bit, but not with intentions of causing converts (although If someone chose to try an alternative diet due to something I say then im more than happy to be a catalyst.)

I do me and this makes me happy

Relatively new vegan here.

I sport a lot which means I need above average calories per day. Vegan food is of a low caloric density usually which means I end up eating all the fucking time. That definitely takes some getting used to. It sometimes even takes planning.

I love eating more than anything though so I don't really mind.

It's not all about macronutrients. In fact the diseases we face in first world countries have very little to do with macronutrients. Mainstream nutrition and medicine practically scoffs at the idea of incorporating evolutionary evidence and therefor can't be taken seriously. Their research relies heavily on metabolically diseased modern populations as control subjects and therefor the lessons we take are subject to countless complications. Hence why sugars the enemy one decade, fat the next, and the recommended percentages constantly under debate. Honestly, most hunter gatherer populations we have studied are pretty free of disease whether they eat plant heavy or meat heavy or fruit heavy. But they always eat a broad spectrum of available foods. The fact is that nearly every western, non-heritable, non transmissable disease is initiated by inflammation and none of this nutrient adjusting is sufficient to account for it. Micronutrients and non-nutrient chemical constituents of whole foods play an extraordinarily important role in regulating digestive function largely through their effects on microbial populations. Foods that cause the breakdown of intestinal barrier function, selective feeding of certain microbes and the die off of others, or contribute to an imbalance in immune regulating substrates (such as the high prevalence of omega-6 over omega-3 in seed products like grains and legumes) contribute to this process. When bacterial antigens bypass the intestinal barrier they elicit an inflammatory response. This response further leads to collateral damage to the intestinal barrier in a self-limiting fashion. However, when microbial populations have overgrown, or when the barrier is constantly subject to enterotoxins such as gluten and other seed lectins this insult can become a chronic occurance and bacterial antigens can freely flow through these perforations in the intestine and overwhelm the local immune response. This can become a systemic issue with inflammation directly triggering insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. If the concentration of bacterial antigen is high enough it can break peripheral immune tolerance and cause antibody secretion. Given that intestinal bacteria like to decorate their membranes in human sugars called sialic acids, this can lead to cross-reactivity with human tissues and tissue-specific autoimmune disease. If this goes on long enough, the amount of reactive oxygenated species produced by immune cells can lead to accumulated DNA damage and thus disorders of tissue homeostasis (ie cancer) by secreting growth factors, matrix degrading proteins, and chemicals that encourage the movement of other cells. All normal immune processes, though in the presence of this accumulated genetic damage that can mean uncontrolled tissue growth, blood vessel formation, further tissue growth and metastases. Honestly this is probably one of the most important processes in regulating health

Mainstream health organizations literally never talk about this and despite the criticisms given to the paleo diet, I personally think it's the most heavily supported diet under this emerging model as many things vegans try to substitute for meat cause insult to normal digestive functions (though of course I advocate any sort of plant food over junk food). You don't have to agree with that. That's cool. Just things to consider as i feel the current model of nutrition is way oversimplified. I have a disease called chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and I know I have personally improved like 80% from cutting out grains and legumes. From not being able to stand on me feet because everything felt like hot coals to having a little achiness in my legs every now and then. But again I do feel that quality meat as well as organ meats are an important part of that. Less charring is probably good too if you can. I'm not suggesting feed farm burgers every night

If this falls under alternative protein sources I'm all for it :awecluster: Don't know if they fully substitute other sources, but some cricket flour pancakes are delicious and pretty guilt free

However, I know of lots of programs in my local area who do community gardening and low income CSA as well as the "double-up" program which gives those on welfare and food support to get 1 dollar for every dollar they have in food stamps or EBT or w.e so essentially doubles there money  and this is used at local farmers markets. Also there is a large incubator farm run under the same food bank which for little to no out of pocket expense to the low-income farmers. They are taught sustainable farming practices and can sell their produce in a CSA Co-op program.  As well as supplementing their own food pantry's.

I'd have to wager a lot of places have similar programs if not to the extent as they do here perhaps someone needs to implement such for their community. Theres a lot of opportunity out there as well as community gardens for this kind of thing.

I think it should be expanded Nationally... Look at Detroit with the revitalization or urban housing projects with the implementation of farming over having grass or a lawn!Theres a lot going on like this all through-out the state.

There is the possibility to grow your own food as well which is cheaper than raising animal for slaughter or purchasing.

Even on a paleo-ish diet I find myself pretty hungry a lot. That said, tubers like sweet potato/yam/taro etc i find to be very filling and should be compatible with your diet. Of course, preparation takes a minute out of your day.
