soggy might be okay, but once they get slimy, they are too far gone. Bluing is ok, but they shouldnt be black. I haven't had any success placing shrooms directly in a dessicant chamber. Put them in front a fan for a day first. This will get rid of the majority of the moisture. Then put them in a drying chamber if they need to be really dry.

since they were supposedly in a refrigerator, would that have helped lessen the chance that contams would have grown on them? If contam's could have grown, would they die and be relatively harmless once the shrooms dried?

why waste your time wiht dessicant? its dirty, messy, slimey. A dehydrator doesnt really effect the potency that much, in fact i bet you guys couldnt tell the difference

The refrigerator is probably the worst place for fresh-picked mushrooms, due to humidity and hidden contams.
Dessicant isn't dirty, messy or slimy if you buy one of those Damp-Rid buckets. It comes with a small bucket to place inside it's own container where air-dried mushrooms fit very nicely away from the dessicant.
