Re: How it should look - A GUIDE FOR NEW CULTIVATORS (under construction) [Re: Tmethyl]

I think it'd be cool to do a fungus morphology thread. I'm limited to my 100x pocket scope at the moment, which actually isn't completely useless, but I'm sure there's people who'd be willing to contribute. There's a lot of information available on specific pathogens and competitor molds associated with edible mushrooms but practically nothing when it comes to any kind of hallucinogenic mushroom, and I'm sure there are some significant differences.

I like it, maybe the thread could also include a basic Mycology course.
My 2000x biology scope will be arriving shortly, not much you can't do with that.

I'm definitely interested in posting micrographs of every contamination we encounter on this thread.
A microscopy section would certainly take this guide to the next level.

Good stuff Kizzle.

It appears as though your cake has sprouted a scrotum.

It's a contaminant fungi, I'd just cut it off. Probably a polypore or something.
Unless this is PE, in which case it could simply be a PE blob/pin.

Tmethyl- this morning the scrotum cake has started to blue a little around the bottom. Poor little guy is getting blue balls. They were a bit dry this morn as well, so that can cause some bluing right?

In that FC one is P.E. and one is B+. Im pretty sure the one with the growth is PE, but "what if" I got them backwards? Should I just remove the growth on the side of caution?

Is this How it SHOULD or SHOULDN'T Look thread worthy?

Yeah you can harvest that blob, since it's bluing we can confirm it's a P.E blob.
It's safe to eat, and highly potent.

Your picture is definitely worthy, we don't have many PE blob pics, especially on cakes.

I'm almost 6wks in. 2 are in the FC as of yesterday. These 3 Im a little concerned with. #1 has a blue/green spot that hasn't changed in a week, although the myc has. The other 2 are SLOW...

Do you all think its safe to birth "spot" or not?

I dont like the gray in the middle of the 2nd pic. Dont like it at all. Maybe cam angle and lighting? Take more pics of that spot.

EDIT: reread what u said. And saw the 1st pic again. Yea, don't think about birthing the jar in the 2nd pic with the grayish blue spot. Thats contam.

Any guesses as to what kind of contam other than the bad kind?
Would it have anything to do with the myc growing up to/in the dry verm?

Any second opinions on this cake with the "spot"? It still hasn't changed in size, color, etc.

So I stumble across this, it's from the AMI site.

Quote:
Hard Gill or Pale Gill - Affected mushrooms have pale colored gills, white gills or gills can be non existent. These fruitbodies can be flatter than normal and have little or no veil. Cause can be genetic but usually it is from fluctuating conditions over a short period of time. White hybrid strains appear particularly susceptible in 3rd flush but all strains can be affected.

Anyone have pics of something like this? I've never heard of it before.

I haven't contributed much lately, here are some new shots:

Pleurotus djamor (Pink oyster) mycelium escaping an agar wedge in grain jar.

Agaricus blazii (nutty portabello) agar wedge in grains.

Gymnopilus luteofolius mycelium, heavily consolidated and with typical brown metabolites/enzymes. Jar 1 and 3 is contaminated if you can spot it.

Psilocybe cubensis(albino) metabolites, heavily consolidated.

Anyone ever color code their jars?
