A few months worth of testing wild spores, and bad cultures yields.. well it yields nothing but disgusting jars. :uhoh:
Your jars shouldn't look like these, ever.

How have you all been?

I'm almost 6wks in. 2 are in the FC as of yesterday. These 3 Im a little concerned with. #1 has a blue/green spot that hasn't changed in a week, although the myc has. The other 2 are SLOW...

Do you all think its safe to birth "spot" or not?

I dont like the gray in the middle of the 2nd pic. Dont like it at all. Maybe cam angle and lighting? Take more pics of that spot.

EDIT: reread what u said. And saw the 1st pic again. Yea, don't think about birthing the jar in the 2nd pic with the grayish blue spot. Thats contam.

Is this contaminated or has it just been getting too much light?

I think that its not getting enough FAE, but If it was my jar, I would soak it in a solution of bourbon and cola and then consume in its entirety.  Its the only scientific way to see if it is ready to be introduced to fruiting conditions.

Fruit it. I see hyphal knots everywhere.

Is this cubensis? Looks like some brown metabolites, like Gymnopilus.

Any guesses as to what kind of contam other than the bad kind?
Would it have anything to do with the myc growing up to/in the dry verm?

That was popcorn BTW, the second was WBS with a coir layer on one side. Here's a couple other that don't closely match anything already posted.

Very cottony mushroom mycelium on a coir substrate.

A large amount of primordia. The tan spots are the transition of primordia to pin.

First appearance of mycelium in a popcorn jar

Makeshift alcohol lamp

Excellent Kizzle we can use all those.
What material makes the wick in your lamp? Is that cotton?

50, 70 or 91% alcohol?

Cotton.

I use 91% isopropyl alcohol, but only because I don't have to go out of my to obtain it. As a result it still leaves behind soot like a lighter whereas ethanol would not.

A lamp is one thing I've neglected to acquire.
I think I'll make one tonight.

Hey we hit page 50.

Anyone have any thoughts on improving this guide?
Is it missing anything you would prefer it to have?
