Mold in my first substrate
    #18370323 -

It looks like my bag of rye has mold in it.  I injected 2 CCs of Golden Beech spores in it yesterday and sadly it was all for not.

So I still have a syringe with 8 CCs of spores in it, but no bag.

I'm new to this stuff, and was wondering in what ways I could replicate nature.  Obviously, nature doesn't have the problem of mold keeping all the mushrooms from cultivating.  So what happens in nature?

I have a big terrarium-like thing with an open top (no lid) and I'm also considering getting a log and seeing if there are any options for me that don't involve going through hoops to make spore plugs.  Could one simply drill a hole, squirt some spore stuff into it, and then use something like warm candle wax to cover up the hole?

First, Welcome!

Second,

Edit : Oh I understand now.. I would say no. Not unless it is a wood loving species, and even then, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't meet the proper sterile procedures in order for your mycelium to grow. Nor would it have the proper nutritional diet to grow either.

Hope that answers your question.

:goodluck:

Jman, beech mushrooms ARE woodlovers

You're going around giving misinformation a lot again man.

That is completely meaningless.

But you're not alone. It's like the clowns are running the circus tonight, sheesh.

OP, you want to inoculate some spawn with spores, then inoculate your substrate or log with it.

I wouldn't blame him for not knowing that...  I actually didn't know that Beech mushrooms like wood!  That's very good to know!

So, what kind of spawn do you think would work best?  I've seen way too many arguments about what kinds of material mushrooms grow best in...

Also, since I'm a newbie, I'm not sure how inoculating spawn would work.  Say I had sawdust.  How would I be able to bind it together so that it holds spores from the syringe?  I know I can't take a little splinter and inject it with spores, that would be silly.  And after I have this little ball of sawdust inoculated, would it be as simple as shoving it into a hole I drilled into a log?

Thanks for helping me out guys.   I feel like I'll enjoy being a part of this community.  I wasn't expecting to get help so quickly.

when you do sawdust spawn you want to put the sawdust in a spawn bag
and inoculate. after colonization you put the whole colonized sawdust
log into fruiting conditions.

if you want to inoculate logs you can either colonize dowel plugs
or cut a wedge out, put spawn in cut out, then replace the wedge.

there are other ways i'm sure but this all i know of.

Yeah, your "best input" is generally pretty terrible.

So before you keep telling people bullshit, you might wanna consider how I am now going to be correcting everything I see you say that is wrong

Rofl..I tried bashing you? So immature yet again, I only gave you a rating like 6 days after you gave me mine... I gave it to you last night because you were, and still are a douche nozzle. I only gave it to you after you changed my rating and posted that immature comment. I gave you a 1 for your knowledge about mycology, and 4 albinos for being a dick.

Keep deleting and re-editiing the ratings you give me though please, Its not that hard to keep track of how many times you do it..(wishing I would have saved what you originally put..immature jackass)

I don't try to make a name for myself, I try to help out where I can. Sorry my best input is terrible...Like I said..I do my best. My bad.

You, on the other hand, are just an ignorant douche bag who thinks he is the next best thing to sliced bread. (which, sliced bread, wasn't that great)

You have shown your immaturity and desire for approval of others by the way you act and talk in your threads.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.

Just because Obama is our president...doesn't mean he isn't a bad person..

Just because you have a fancy TC tag, doesn't mean you're a good person lol.

All it means is you know what you know about mycology.

I'd rather be a kind hearted person who is trying to help, rather then a douche bag who constantly downs other people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe learn to present yourself better. There are multiple people who you "shut down" everyday and give them bad ratings. On the other hand, when someone posts something on one of your threads, or says something you like, you give them a good rating.

Sounds like an attention craver to me...

But here, I'll show you how much I don't care for your rating, nor how I don't care for any attention. I'll simply leave and keep my success to myself.

Actually, jman, you rated me just hours after I changed your rating to a 2/5 from a 4/5. Hmmm...also, I'm pretty sure calling out bad info is far from "immature," but rather what I'm supposed to be doing as a trusted cultivator

So let's back up a bit and look at the facts Jman.

First, you've been speculating and making assumptions and passing them off as fact (our first "disagreement").

Then, after you throw a big fit, you agree that I was actually being reasonable and just trying to keep the info on the boards straight.

A week goes by, and you've been passing off bad info again, like in this thread.

So I bite my tongue and give you a chance, knowing that you're new and that stepping all over your fun you're having here isn't really a great thing to do to new cultivators and members.

Then, I finally correct you here. Knowing that I've been watching you pass off info you don't know is true to people as fact, I also rated you appropriately, so others will know that your word should be taken with a grain of salt.

And now you explode all over the place.  A novel here, a poor rating there, etc.  You throw insults left and right and suddenly I'm "immature" and "attention craving."

I think you've misunderstood, my friend.

As a TC, I am here to sort through the bullshit people post as fact. If you hadn't noticed, it's pretty tricky.

I also have more experience than you, in cultivation. That's not to one-up you, it's just the truth. So if you say, for example, "the mycelium was not able to fully digest the water" that is bad information and I will call you out on it.

It's not personal. And if you hadn't noticed, I do it to everyone indiscriminately.

A week ago, you "understood" and in your own words, you "were the immature one."  What happened?

I guess I'm wondering why all the hostility. You obviously respect me and my work a great deal. I've seen you call me inspiring, among other things.

I'm here to help man. If you can't handle being corrected, quit telling new cultivators crap you don't know for fact.  It's silly.

Again, if you don't know, don't say anything at all.

I'm going to copy this to your ratings as well.

And if you want to resolve this issue, please PM me, I'm always happy to chat.

Otherwise, I will gladly keep correcting you until I'm blue in the face. I'm here to help people out, and that even means calling out people on their bullshit, as well as taking tons of crap in return for it sometimes.

PS. I've downrated no more than 6 people in the 193 ratings I've given. So...no, I do not "shut down" people and give them bad ratings "everyday." Just the ones who repeatedly prove that they deserve it
