Add some baking soda to your casing. Trich likes acidic conditions and lime or baking soda will move the PH more into the alkaline range. ------------------ Be sure to check out www.3mshrooms.homestead.com for your spore needs

Hang on...There is a confusion here, are you talking about in casing, or in jars? Or will either be OK? And somehow the conversation got witched to baking soda, I thought we were talking about lime.

Use lime not baking soda ,for myself springling soda on the side or bottom of a cake donest work the mold seems to start growing inward eventualy causing the cake to crumle into a real mess,Mold prefers acidic ph , the lime takes care of that(alkaline)I myself think peroixiode is a joke and yes the lime appears to be be working on caseing as well these are preliminary results thanks Psychonaut great info

badbaby: ..you have it COMPLETELY backwards...alkaline=basic=baking soda (which is a base) acidic=acid= lime< (which is an acid) Your saying to use lime when molds prefer lime?< Maybe im reading it erong but: "..Mold prefers acidic ph, the lime takes care of that(alkaline).." Sorry to be bitchy..i tend to get that way when i come down. late

Lime is sweet ,molds are acidic loving organisms,i guess the closer you are to neutral, mold dont like thoes conditions ,i call for a simple experiment teaspoon of lime maybe hydated lime because its guick acting to a jar of substrate.I start tommorow. You know with everone using peat moss(acidic) and pottting soil in the casing, maybe slightly acidic water the ph of the substrate may be the cause of any and all molds accuring seeing as how clean and sterile we have to be to be successful.

Theyr referring to lime, not the fruit =) and about putting it on casing, not in jars, this is to fight off trich. on casing not save jars. just tryin to clear up some ppls confusion i think i see whats goin on, if not pls correct me :-)------------------ Lady finger, dipped in moonlight writing "What for?" across the morning sky sunlight splatters, dawn with ansewer darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye

Thank you St.Stephen! Nobody was answering me... I knew it wasn't lime the fruit, but I wanted to know if I could put it in jars. I just had a green mold attack. Thanks again...

First Off: Boomerz: "acidic=acid= lime< (which is an acid)" What the fuck are you talking about... lime is base, lime adjusts your pH up. LIME IS NOT ACIDIC. Lime fruits are though. UGH.As far as this post is concerned, the majority of green mold is contracted through improperly adjusted pH... you guys should get some ChloropHast strips... fungi.com sells them(heh, I plug them too often) Use limestone flour in conjuction with grit(or substitute oyster shell for grit). The flour adjusts the immediate pH and the grit is a time release mechanism since mycellia creates acidity as it gets older. Try that out, will solve alot of your problems... also, vermiculite has a pH of anywhere from 6-9 to start with, and peat moss is usually around 3.5-4.5... I've lately used just straight peat moss, if its fluffed properly its aerated enough that vermiculite doesn't really serve much purpose. Well regardless, green mold need acidic environment to thrive, so make sure your shit is around 6.8-7.2 pH...cubies aren't that picky...heh

What I do is dissolve the baking soda in water. The PH of most water around where I live is acidic. Lime works too. If I don't add it to my water in my humidifier I am guaranteed the mold.------------------ Be sure to check out www.3mshrooms.homestead.com for your spore needs
