i've got my cakes cased with compost, and this green mold about the size of a coin keeps on showing up. i took a spoon and threw it away, then placed some more compost on the wound, but it came back. if i need to, i would kill that little area of fungus. what do i use? h2o2? and please indicate the concentration and method of spraying.
thanx

dimitri, you're not helping me. if you suggest throwing away half a square meter of colonized substrate with pins on, it's a nono. i'm gonna stand by my casing, till death do us part, remember? i know i've screwed up, but there must be a way out of it. i've dealt with it before, even on cakes, and i made them flush and had almost healthy crops off them. i was only asking for your advice, cause i thought you'd know better.
and if you do that's the kind o help i'm looking for.

Those we all good answers, even throwing away half of it, the deal is it's already spread where you can't see it, try fighting it with a mini-torch....

lateshroom--unfortunately those posts are right on--i've had the green mold as well, fought tooth and nail, by cutting out large portions, using H2O2 and baking soda. the results? well, i did manage to get a couple shrooms to fruit, but the crop was reduced by at least 90%.
if you cut out some, you'll probably find that the mold has spread underneath the casing, between the casing and the substrate, much more than you might have expected from the growth on the top. cut it out, spray the exposed areas with peroxide, dust with baking soda, get lots of air exchange, and hope for the best. also, if you can, isolate the contamintated casing(s) from the rest.
good luck.

It is the time of year where you can grow outside in tubs. If you see signs of green mold, set your tub outside in the shade and water as normal for about 5-7 days. Keep the lid off. Green mold doesn't do well AT ALL outside and after 5-7 days you will end up salvaging 80% of your crop.

Maybe you can dance around naked around your tub and chant to the mushroom gods to save your little shroomies.
If that doesn't work, well then stick a fork in it cuz its done.
I've seen mushrooms fruit on a casing infested with the green devil, they later shriveled up and turned to blue goo befor the cap even opened.
I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it.

Think of it like this. The green color shows itself when the mold is dropping spores. A lot of growth has already occured and spread before it dropped spores. Just like mushrooms, a lot of mycelium growth has occured, fruiting begins, then we see spores.
