You're talking about every-day grocery store in the med department Hydrogen Peroxide, aren't you? When you say pure, I think of 100 percent h202. But the stuff you buy at a store is only 6 percent h202. You can get 20 percent from salons (hair bleaching) and higher from chem supply shops. I have a bottle of 30 percent that I just dilute. (even though I only use it to keep humidifier water fresh, haven't dealt with casing molds, yet) I hope you're talking about the 6 percent stuff, because anything above that can bleach. Funny as it seems even I suspected that may work since you had mentioned to me to add H202 to my mycelium syringes....Have not made it the casing part yet so I couldnt try it if I got hit but Damn glad to hear you finally got the little bastard! you gonna play with the Pan Trops again Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

After seeing a few post about H2O2 not being too harmfull to mycelia and after visiting the Peroxide manual site (didn't order) I deduced that there is probly no harm done to using higher consntrations.

I employed the use of 200ml 3% in each 1 liter of water and sprayed the bottom layer the substrate layer and the casing layer with this, thus moisturizing them. You can check the story of my success quite shortly, and in a few days pics.

What looked like the possibility of cobweb sort of stayed stagnant and I just removed the surface it had gotten hold off.

H2O2 and good aeration alla shroomgod is so far the best contam defence!!

I just got home to find one of my casings that I just did a deep scratch on yesterday is now infested with this mold. I am going to attack it with h202 right now. My other casing is right under it (in a refregerator terrium I set up) and it is not showing any signs of the mold yet. I figured I would go ahead and mist it as well. Your info couldnt have came at a better time. I will keep you informed on the progress (pray for me). Good to hear that you beat it! What is the cause of this frigging mold anyways??

Well, I did it. What really sucked is that the casing was just starting to pin for the first time. How long will it take for the mycelium to restore back to health? I went ahead and doused the walls of the refregerator with h202 as well. I never have had that problem before but when I saw it tonight, and then went to your web-site and saw the pic of it, there was no doubt about what it was. This is my first casing experience, hopefully it wont be a total nightmare.

Does anyone have any thoughts of whether it would be beneficial to add thin layers of casing so the mycelium could colonize it quickly until you were able to build it up to about an inch. I believe that the reasons that casings get contaminated is that competitors have time to get a foothold in the casing before the mycelium can colonize it. Any thoughts?

Ryche you are always full of great surprises! Way to go. I had reduced my problems with Ye Ole CobWeb Mold by 80% using the alcohol mix you told me a few years back. Can't wait to try this. I am almost finished building a new climate controled system (cooling coils) and will try this with my next crop.

Hey Papa Smurf you might say that's what I do (although you may mean even thinner layers). I case a little less than a half inch. Let the mycelium reach the surface...deep scratch and add another half inch. I do this because of the stronger flushes which result. Because of this thread, I'll be adding hydrogen peroxide to my casing mix after sterilization.

Anyone ever been hit by penicilin, it smells like ass, I am allegic to it, so I can't deal at all with the shit. I hate this type of contamination, because I can't even touch the jars I have to put gloves on and just throw it out, gayness.

Ryche, The refregerator is a old broken one that I cleaned out just for the purpose of a terrium. Its an old fridge that hasnt been in use for years (it was outside in the barn and was nasty). I noticed that it has some kind of a vent or something like that in the door right above the corner of the casing that got the cob-web mold. I guess it came from there so I covered it with duck tape this morning. The mold seems to be gone for now and the casings are showing signs of life again. Thanks for the very important info. Ryche you reccomended using H2O2 in the mycelium syringes, sounds like a plan, becuase i lost my last batch of syringes due too contams, when do you reccomend adding the h202?

Hi Ryche,
I was just curious if you had any futher info/results on your use of 100% H2o2 to battle cobweb mold. I read this post, tried the 100% solution and the mold came back only twice. I didn't spray it very heavily, but if I would have I doubt it would have come back at all. I can't wait to try it with some syringes!

Thats excellent news to hear! You should really put a small contam tek together! Folks who have never dealt with cobweb mold are lucky...folks who have, simply detest it!!! Thanks for all of your input and inovation. H2o2 has been a permenant tool in my "tool box" I think now it's time to purchase a few more bottles!

You know, I don't think I could spot cobweb mold growing on top an otherwise healthy cake.

There are pics about, but I'd like to see more. Cobwebs in jars, mycel looking close to cobweb in jars, cobweb on casing layer, mycel looking close to cobweb on casing layer.
I think what people don't bother photographing is good mycellium that might looks like cobweb, and so when I get something that looks like it could be cobweb, well whats a guy supposed to do?

I suppose the solution is to spray it with H202 and find out. Good enough, put that in the tek if theres no better answer. :smile:

I was recently hit with cobweb mold on two casings. The first was spotted early and sprayed with pure h2o2, i thought it was taken care of but must have been too late. Today i checked and cobweb mold had already spread through casing, shit. I found the beginnings of another today, sprayed again with straight h202, moved soil around and saturated soil with h202, i hope this shit works...... I'll post results when i find out what happens

Can this tek be used to stop contamination within substrate jars? If not, is there another good method to rid oneself of molds while the substrate is still colonizing, or should they just be thrown out...?

I dont know about you all but personally I prefer keeping my growing as Organic as possible.... All this talk about spraying it with peroxide and what not, makes me a little petro...... I havent experienced cobweb mold yet (Knock on wood) but I would hope there is a better way....

although it was about midway down this post, someone mentioned useing ozone.. DONT! ozone is very dangerous, and when more than (if i remember correctly) 50 ppm is danerous!
dont use ozone.. its baaad shit man..

I was thinking about pasteurizing my casings and then allowing them to dry out , then re-mhydrating them with a peroxide solution to impede the germination of green mold and cobweb mold. Think that would work? Should I use a 50/50 mix or less? I was thinking like 100 parts water to 1 part peroxide. Nothing to crazy, just a little added protection. No? Yes?
