Myself and Dipload, as well as Acidic all voted. Now I don't know what their vote was but mine was to close it down.

I took over Cultivation for Automan on IRC back during hurricane Katrina. Dipload was there even longer then me. Acidic I don't know because I only monitored cultivation.

I went into chat from time to time and I saw some poor moderation. Not only that we had plenty of complaints about moderation. People were receiving site wide bans for chat infractions. That is silly and something that never happened on IRC. Also the infractions on the BOM were very light with documentation.

Even if this WAS a bad decision, after this thread and some of the post from the staff of the chat, you all have put the nail in the coffin.

As has been stated, Automan has been running his own IRC server since the original IRC was shut down. I'd recommend heading there.

There are poor forum mods too, just saying. There was plenty of documentation for all infractions, a huge thread with that information. The problem is that you guys didn't have access to it.

I hate the idea that by discussing this issue we've "put the nail in the coffin," [I realize that some people have been total assholes in this thread, but welcome to the internet. They're all over the place and are not a representation of the majority of posters in this thread] I've gotten a lot of negative comments and discouragement in this thread about trying to put my input into a forum that I enjoy and pay money to support which is frankly frustrating and makes me rethink every monetarily supporting this forum again. :shrug:

The documentation should of been in the BOM, not in a thread in another forum.

If the forum mods and administration have been seeing problems with the chat staff for so long, how come there was never any effort to help us get better at our jobs, or attempt to get better OPs in there? Seems to me that the first logical step would have been to try and help the staff get better at their jobs before simply removing the feature entirely.

Great question.

There was a bias against chat from the start. Whenever I ask this question I'm usually told that the actual problem was that IRC brought problems and the people against chat assumed chatterbox would go the same way. I hardly see this as a valid reason to delete chat.

You've also never seen a forum mod's entire form get deleted without any discussion with them about how to solve the problems of the forum first. [That is not to say that any personal attacks were justified but I think this kind of response was to be expected] :shrug:

i had approximately half of the chat mods talking to me in PM's about how they are aware of the problems but dont want to speak out about them.

it really was a hilarious song and dance.

i believe we had a conversation like that specialty.

tldr; i tried skinning it your way.
but the only way to get the job done was my way.

Well we as chat mods never saw NY problem brought to us by days(in days defence we has away for a month and a bit sick) or state or any other forum mod. Just doesn't make any since that the problems that were reported never had been seen by any other mod.

you dont think it was a problem that users were getting site wide bans for chatroom infractions?

that never happened with IRC.

K00laid, I really wish you would have come to me about this issue. I've never been a fan of the idea that mods shouldn't offer constructive criticism of others behaviors. I would have opened up a serious discussion about problems like yours with chat mods and forum mods, if they were interested which they obviously weren't, and maybe we could have an improved chat today. :shrug:
