Joie, the fact is that the majority of people complaining in this thread are former chat mods...not former chat users.

You think this is about loss of power?...that shows exactly the kind of person you are... My concern is for the loss of an avenue of communication with other members that is more personal and effective than the forums. My concern is for the loss of a great feedback system for cultivators and hunters looking for answers. I could care less about being an OP but the fact that you think this is the main issue speaks volumes about the bias that forum mods have against chat and It's users who are contributing members to this site.

Im done with this place. finished. I am truly disgusted with the attitudes regarding this whole situation and the pompousness of the forum moderators.

Exactly. Im upset that the trolls won. that pisses me off more than anything.

Also the ineptitude of the admins to deal effectively with what is a minor situation saddens me. It never escalated to what happened on IRC but I cannot blame them for being fearful about it. All in all I harbor my ill will for those who are responsible for taking away this privilege from others.

Chat's hardly been down for a few hours from what I can tell. Chat goes down all the time and the majority of chat users are on later anyway. There will be more complaints. I've already seen plenty of non ops complaining in this thread and the one in the pub.

Fully agree. I made way more personal connections with other members through chat than anywhere else on this site.

fair enough, but your actions in this thread were completely irrational and uncalled for. i am unbiased in this matter, as i had NO OPINION on chat, but i can say that the moderators and administrators worked to find a solution that would work, and could not.

it isn't any one person's fault that chat is gone, and blame can be thrown around all day, it isn't going to solve anything. but you can move on and either make your own chat, use the one that someone else already created, or use the alternate IRC chat that automan set up.

Worked to find a solution for what exactly? A few users complaining? What measures were taken to "find a solution" to this problem?

I think we all understand you don't want us to discuss this anymore. We see value in discussing it and will stop when we see fit. I'd appreciate it if you stopped trying to stifle out discussions here though.

so i've heard, and that doesn't surprise me; he has many years of experience in managing and moderating chat.


if i had time i would jump in there, but i really don't. i can moderate here a couple hours a day and the rest of my time is dedicated to school and homework.

What kind of power did we even have anyway?

I held back the banhammer quite a bit for fear of reprisal from forum mods in a vain hope to alleviate or ameliorate a situation like this. As mentioned prior, I even had to kick people with whom I had close friendships with because they were belligerent or drunk or just being plain assholes to everyone.

The only people who got any "immunity" of the sort were the trolls, essentially because we knew they'd cry to your worthless asses and make us suspect.

Like I said earlier (or in another thread), when we couldn't stand for the bullshit trolls gave us, they came to forum mods and won. We could handle our shit but apparently you guys couldn't.

And yes, Ripper is a shame, DDOS is a $25,000 shame, but so is shutting down a service when no forum mods reached out to discuss any issues with Ops in Staff and never had access to the Chatterbox Staff forum.

Yep, in over a dozen years I made more relationships with people via chat than I have through the boards, and I hope they stick. Unfortunately I never got to know you well since I was on medical leave =/


And Enlil, to be quite honest, the reason why you got away with some shit is simply based on the sole fact that you were able to troll the trolls so well that we didn't have to keep them in line. By virtue of your tomfoolery in chat, dear sir, you actually did chat a service.
