Awesome. thanks. Is there anything else you think is key. AFOAF has some jars that are about ready to be birthed and he was thinking about trying to spawn a mini casing to see how he fares. the rest will be kept cakes which he is comforatable with. There are more jars awaiting experimentation. Will this work with a mini casing for practice?

sure will you can spawn 1 cake to a large amount of poo straw when i spawn poo/straw with brf cakes i put the brf cakes in a blender then sprinkle good amount and mix together try it for practice with one cake you will be amazed

how much substrate? the container I had in mind was six inches long 4 wide and 3 deep. IS that too small?

no its perfect for your first spawn and will recover that much faster for the amount of spawn it just take hand full poo and some cut straw pasterize it 170 degrees for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours let cool drain well squeez water out and mix leave enough room for about 1/2 casing layer

Define "compressing".
Do you compress/push down and "tighten" your layers?
