an AR-15 is nothing more than an hyped up .22

my wife's .243 deer rifle is way more powerful.

I don't see any issue with people having hunting rifles or pistols or even shotguns, but why does a citizen need a gun that gives them the potential to easily kill dozens of people in a matter of minutes?

I know some marines and army guys that could take an m-1 garand that only has  six round clip, and kill dozens of people in a few minutes.  They could take a bolt action rifle like a Springfield a-03 and kill dozens of people.  :smirk:

Sure, but it doesn't take a marine to kill a shitload of people with an AR15. I don't know that much about guns and in any case you seem to be avoiding the question: Why does the average citizen need an AR15? or whatever the hell kind of gun the arizona shooter, for example, used to wipe out that many people in a very short period of time? To me self-defense doesn't seem like a legitimate reason to have one.

How many times can she fire it in a minute?

Could she fuck up more shit in a shorter period of time if the gun had, for example 25 round magazines? I don't even know what the standard amounts are.

most criminals are not allowed to have guns, yet they do.
drugs are illegal and people still get them

the police have guns to protect themselves. they are no more important than regular citizens.
I have the right to have the exact same firepower to protect myself.

So basically the position of the two posters before tdubz is that I ought to be able to have a high powered semiautomatic rifle because I have a right to have. To me that sounds remarkably close to a tautology.

The slippery slope argument isn't going to cut it with me. Haven't any of you taken a basic philosophy class? These arguments seem to be very poorly conceived.

Can I get some input from prisoner#1?

Saying the same thing over and over again doesn't make it a new argument. There are plenty of outdated, archaic laws in this country that are ignored or even contradicted by new laws. The Bill of Rights was framed in a completely different context, literally hundreds of years ago. Where is the historical cutoff for you? Do you follow the ten commandments as well?

10 commandments    prohibitions against murder, theft, and adultery.  that sounds pretty good to me.

so should we repeal the first amendment?  is was made at the same time as the 2nd

Good lord. Stick to the subject. I am capable of addressing each of the amendments individually. Why should I throw the baby out with the bath water? Repealing one amendment doesn't mean they all have to be repealed. Just because the twenty first amendment nullified the eighteenth amendment, we didn't say "that means the rest of them have got to go as well." Because the other amendments weren't the issue. The issue was the eighteenth amendment, which I hope we can agree was a very shortsighted idea.

In any case, I'm not talking about taking away peoples' right to weaponry. Amendment two doesn't say "the citizens are guaranteed the right to have high powered semiautomatic assault rifles". A law could say that without violating the second amendment.
