prison is worse then everything because your freedom is taken away from you so, being killed would be much better then going to jail

I don't dislike guns per say. To tell you the truth I own one. I would never carry it on me for "protection" though. If somebody pulls a gun on you they are either going to use it or they are not regardless of whether you have a gun at your waist. As niteowl already pointed out if you reach for your gun and they plan on using theirs you are dead anyway.

I would own a gun for protection but honestly I've never been in a situation I couldn't talk or intimidate my way out of.

I'm willing to bet it is the powerful feeling rather than any "safety" that the gun provides.
If you said...."I carry a gun for protection/safety."
I would have to say that there are better ways to protect your self.
I can think of NO situation where a gun would be better/safer than a can of mace/pepper spray or a good tazer.
Anyone who is carrying a gun around to be "safer" needs to rethink the reason they really have the gun.
Mace does work well for self-defense. A gun is scarier though. The whole point of a gun is that it is going to be so scary to a perp that they will run away, thus defusing the situation.
I don't carry a gun to feel "bigger" (haha how ironic is that coming from a munchkin) nor do I carry it for the novelty of "packing". I carry it to protect myself. Thank God I have never had to use it to defend myself. I am not looking for trouble, but if I am in PA (the state where I am allowed to carry concealed) I will be ready for trouble if it comes to me.

you are a hot young blonde girl, walking in the ghetto of a dangerous city...hopelessly lost.
3 very large, mean, powerful felons approach you. they have raped & murdered before. they have knives and chains. their intent is to rape and kill you.
what do you wish you had with you? a.) your tazer (you will shock one of those assholes until he goes down...well hopefully he goes down.) b.) your pepper spray (from 10 feet away, you're as ruthless as eric roberts.) c.) your .44 mag (you are goobler's daughter and old goobs taught you well. you can blow a testicle clean off at 40 feet. you're not going to be raped or killed tonight.)

not true I've had a gun pulled on me and pulled mine..
you have to be responsible with firearms, know how to use them well if you are going to carry them and most of all be aware that you might take a bullet....if you're willing to pull the trigger you need to be willing to take one....
most petty thieves use them for scare tactics, they don't want to be shot as much as you don't...fear is the enemy

So why the need for a gun?

You have a point there. It scares me to think that there are people walking around with a loaded gun because they are scared.
Weren't you scared when you almost pulled your gun on that guy?
Lets say that he did have a gun. If he had walked up to you and pulled his gun on you (thinking your going to rob him)...
What would you have done?......Shot him? He is pointing a gun at you after all.

DO NOT POINT IT AT SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO SHOOT

Ok I will play along with your "scenario"

With 3 thugs intent on rape and murder, having a gun is not much of a deterrent to them. Most have been shot already and aren't afraid of her or her gun.
If she is lucky she might get one good shot off B4 they jump her.
The safest thing that this "hot young blonde girl" could do is get her boyfriend to fetch her crack for her.

That's the point I'm trying to make. Having a gun only makes any situation more dangerous......not safer.
Except in this situation. Uh oh, time to re-bold.
http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/111-02252004-252912.html
As I stated above there are safer ways to protect yourself. A gun is not needed to be safe.
Except when of course it is needed!
How is having a gun going to keep someone from harming you? If someone is "out to get you" they aren't likely to come face to face.....your gonna get jumped from the back......gun is useless.
Not true. Tommy Gyro was pissed I yelled at his g/f last week and he actually came face to face with me wanting to punch me in the mouth. Wrong again.
It all boils down to the powerful feeling you get with carrying a gun. Makes you feel like James Bond or John Wayne.
Nothing to do with feeling safe......all about feeling POWERFUL
Except when someone wants to defend their life, and the lives of others when need be. Of course, it takes a powerful individual to undertake this responsibility. Those that don't carry guns would hide behind a grandma if shit went down because they are WEAK and cowards.

two questions?
how old are you?
do you know what a responsible gun owner knows?(training, etc?)
having a gun is a responsibility
what if this girl is a gun user, and trains....she could have a small Beretta and take out those 3 guys pretty quick with some well placed shots
you are just talking about random idiots carrying guns...and believe me I'm glad you don't have one

very likely, idiots that carry guns around would be dead by the time they got there licence to carry it, most people that carry a gun around are responsible, trained, and cautious. they wouldnt just pull it out on anyone for anything unless it was an emergency
in other words i completely agree with u

Yes. I have owned a gun most of my life. I have been to ranges and taken marksmanship courses in high school and the Army.

Agreed

She could have also avoided the situation in the first place. It was a weak scenario to begin with.
If your in a line of work that puts you in dangerous situations, you need a gun. If your walking the streets with a loaded gun, your looking for trouble.
Being "safe" isn't about carrying a gun. It's using your head and not getting yourself into a dangerous situation. Every city has places that I'm not going to go.....simply because it is dangerous.
