 Why carry a gun?

Is it for safety?....
....or is it the sense of power you get knowing that your carrying a gun
I'm willing to bet it is the powerful feeling rather than any "safety" that the gun provides.
If you said...."I carry a gun for protection/safety."
I would have to say that there are better ways to protect your self.
I can think of NO situation where a gun would be better/safer than a can of mace/pepper spray or a good tazer.
Anyone who is carrying a gun around to be "safer" needs to rethink the reason they really have the gun.

1.fear/protection
2.someone really is out to get them
3.they just like guns
anyone else have an idea y people would carry guns?

Im sure I could think of some situation where a gun would be safer, but IMO the gun will put you and others at alot more risk than it will protect you.

What are you talking about!! I think the question at hand is why NOT carry a gun.
Just look at history, man. That shit is bloody, and the new age wars are even swifter with violence. If you are not armed, and your league of assailants are, will you fight a fire-storm with water-guns?
So many people get cut down by criminals because they are out-gunned, out-smarted- or out-balled.
Guns suck, I'll give you that. One of my 3 wishes if I had a genie(;0) would be that gunpowder was never invented... At least that way I could still be kicking ass with a sword and armor.

i used to own a gun. i got it because i had tons of drugs in my house and didn't want people to rob me so i showed it to everyone who knew i had lots of drugs in my house. i always kept it disassembled and never would have used it if someone broke in to steal my shit. it was also fun to shoot shit. but in general guns are lame. imo people should only be able to carry/own guns if they need it to eat or similar. not for protection

That's the point I'm trying to make. Having a gun only makes any situation more dangerous......not safer.

That's pretty much the 3 main reasons to carry a gun........none of them really make any sense tho.
It all boils down to the powerful feeling you get with carrying a gun. Makes you feel like James Bond or John Wayne.

guns are hella fun ill give it that but people abuse the power and think they are badass when they have a gun until they show off to the wrong person and get shot for it thats a nice ak btw is that a 70 round mag on it

I know man! There have been plenty of threads on this already, so I want go into it further. Just know I agree whole-heatedly. And I also see swords as a tool up there with the gun. If you don't own a gun, AT LEAST own a sword, and know how to use it. Believe it or not with smarts and silence a swords-man can cut down rifles like a true ninja would! War is hell.

For some it's fear, others it is a form of protection in case somebody else has a gun, and others it is part of their lifestyle and means of making a living (i.e. cops,gangsters, organized crime).
The first 2 sets of people I mentioned I honestly believe only 1 out of 10 of them would really use their weapon if the situation arose that they had to. People can sit here and talk about how they would be able to shoot somebody point blank but talk is cheap. They underestimate how it actually feels to be in the situation. If they do choose to pull their guns then they have one shot and if they don't kill the other person they are dead themselves.. I know I couldn't do it. Death is final there is no escaping it.. If you choose to take somebodies life you live with the demons you create.
