My mom yelled at me for carrying a gun
    #5075999 - 12/17/05 05:59 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

I was eating with my mom and her husband today at a hibachi place (the Japanese restaurants where they cook stuff in front of you and do tricks with their utensils and stuff).

Somehow it got mentioned that I had my handgun on me.  My mom flipped out.  "Why do you carry it?  You are just asking for trouble!"  Her husband chimed in, "Those who live by the sword die by the sword."   I retorted, "Yes, I know that.  And it is nice to know that I have some amount of protection on me to defend myself against people who live by the sword."

They just don't get it.

From my cold dead hands!

Kind of hard to beef up when you are naturally 5'7 135 pounds.  I am up to 145 right now (and that was hard as hell putting on that 10 pounds of muscle).  I am skinny.

I'm 5'7" 190. Maybe it's a gene thing?

Maybe carry a knife in your car and not a gun? Guns are to easy to use in a moment of passion. :frown:

I would get a permit to carry a gun if i lived in a big city, but other then that I wouldn't...in fact, I do not own a gun.
But hey that is up to you, it is your decision, I dont think your mom should have reacted like that though, that was a little bit too dramatic!

did you know people fear knives more than guns, the fear of disfigurement is higher than the fear of death. thank you bill nye

man don't carry that shit concealed unless you have a permit. If you don't have a permit it has to be visible in a holster where everyone can see it. Atleast in my state of north carolina. You also need to have a permit for it at all times, mines is right their with me dl.

Yer mom and her friend did over react. Its good to have your shit handy when you need it. I mean, who's to say some fucko isn't going to get out of line. That fucko needs to be chopped down before he hurts you or your loved ones.

My dad is cool like that, he don't give a fuck. he don't like it when I got it showing tho. So he made me go get a concealed weapons permit. It was 125 dollars and two four in classroom sessions and one range session lasting four hours. Shit was simple, I been fucking with guns for so long. Them bitches even had guns we could use. You should study your states weapon laws too, sometimes like here my permits allow me to go to neighboring states and still be legal.

So I mean if you got the papers, keep that burner handy.

yeah before the deranged motherfuckers could start abducting people and killing people, you shoot his ass/her ass. see it helps.
you certainly don't sit there and watch someone empty a magazine in restaurant, damn whats wrong with you. If she had a been armed she might a saved her mom's life and some others. i also believe a armed women is less likely to be raped or abducted than an unarmed one. My dads accountant is a women, she blew a motherfuckers nuts off in Atlanta. He had followed her out from her office and was approaching the car, blam. She was found innocent later in court as it turns out the man was a repeated sex offender. see how they help. they motivate people not to be stupid and if they do be stupid they cure it. he went to jail sans a nut. they called him lefty.

yep guns good.

I was robed at gunpoint in my Red Wing Shoe store here in Houston 5 years ago..
I was packing my Walther ppk.

He had robbed two other Red Wing Stores and I was not going to sit back and let him swing by and pull a gun on me without me being able to protect myself..
By the description the other managers had given me I picked up on him as soon as he walked in the store. He was 7 ft. tall about 400 lbs. He had the balls to ask my part timer for help and he tried on some boots as I had other customers in the store..
I was in the back room storing the large bills and my wallet when I here the door buzzer go off. This was either a new customer in the store or the customers that were here had split.
Well as I walked out from the back room I see My workers legs sticking out from under the counter.. Now it was on! I walked around the corner and I get two taps from a 45 on my for head!

He says lay on the ground Kraker mother fucker.. I did not want him to see my gun in my back so I took a knee in front of the cash reg... He points the gun at the register and said give me the cash.. I gave him all i had one's and five's
Well now he is pissed and says "Is that all"?
I say ya man its been a slow day! He then demanded our wallets.. Then got more pissed off and told us to get up and go in the back room...
I did not want to get shot in the back in the back room so I grabbed my gun spun around at the same time I here the door buzzer.. He had made a break for the door..
I popped out behind him and he is walking casually down the sidewalk in front of the sandwich shop.. He had his back to me and I had no idea what the hell to say so I bust out with a "Hey man you forgot your change"!
He had put his gun away and I had my gun in his face.. How quickly the tide had changed for this BMFSOB!

I fallowed him down the sidewalk screaming at him and telling someone to call the cops this mother fucker just robbed me and he has a gun!

Well his partner in crime had the car running and came hauling ass up on us.. I lay ed back and watched them fly out and get stuck in traffic on the street in front of the store.. I ran to the side of the car and stuck my gun in and told that mother fucker I was going to kill him...
The driver slammed the car in front out of the way and took off over the center divider and took off down the street..

Now here I sit in the middle of the street in Houston gun in hand... I walked back to my store emptied the gun and sat down with my feet up on my desk!
The next thing ya know we have half the frikkin HPD sliding up in front guns drawn and ready to party.. I did not figure on all the people in the mall with cell phones calling the Police about a white guy with a hand gun chasing a black guy down across the parking lot and into the street!

Well No I did not discharge my gun.. To this day I can close my eyes and make my heart pound in my chest just by re living that day!

I have some guns now and always will .. But I wont carry a gun on the streets without a permit.. The day after I was robed I got a new 45 and started my Concealed class...
I say if you pack a gun for the fact your small and afraid someone will fuck with you..
Well it may not be the best idea due to the gun being pulled out in a circumstance as a big brother kinda thing.. Could be a great way to spend many a year in prison for murder!

The cops that showed when I was robbed were a split dissuasion.. One said it was a good thing that I never shot the guy! The other cop said if he was me he would have double tapped his Black ass....

Never the less that day fucked me beyond repair..

To top it all off I was in a Vally Savings bank back in 1989 in California when a guy with a Tec.9 walked in and robbed the place

OK sorry for my rant and If I were you Id get a permit!

Were you entering the battlefield as you took you're mom out to dinner? Then why arm yourself as if you are? It must suck to be so paranoid.

Dude I'd yell at you for having a gun too. But I'm totally anti-guns so... I'd pretty much yell at anyone. However, if you actually live in a big city where you might get mugged, jumped, or worse then I can understand your position.

That is a sweet post dude! That helps me out a lot.
What if you would have shot him in the leg and then subdued him till the coips got there... would you be arrested for violent assault as well as him for burglary?
Am I right the ONLY time in America when you can shoot someone( and kill them, claiming self defense) is when they are in your own home.
Or could you have shot him down and got away with it ( he WAS packing)

The cops told me if I had shot and even killed him then I would have had a world of hell drop on me.. The family of the Robber would have sued me.. Then the racial card would have been pulled out.. Life would have been hell..
Now on the other hand I was a store manager and by all rights had the right to carry a gun in my shop.. I had every right in the world to shoot that bastard and get away with it due to the fact he pulled a gun on me first.. If I had shot the best shot would have been between the eyes and then face the courts..It would have been handed off to the Grand Jury and I would have been let off.. But the secondary cases and suites set by the family of the deiced would have sued me or tried to sue me forcing me to be all caught up in the legal world and be in hell financially for years to come.. I'm glad I did not shoot him.,..But my bad side wishes I had split his fucking head in half!

Now I wonder why I drink and take drugs to ease the stress of everyday life....

That is some hard stuff,
what is your zodiac, btw?
That was a hard choice I'm just glad I know how you handled the situation, it's seldom to hear the first hand.

I say now, that if I were there, I would have shot him in the leg then held him at gunpoint till the cops got there( if he tried to run I wouldn't shoot him more just kick his ass and hold him down( not sure if I could take a seven foot four hundred pound blackman in a fight but with a bullet in his leg WHO KNOWS :0)
I would not try to kill him. I doubt he even had any family to sue you, but you MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
Did they ever catch the black guy?

What a load of politically correct garbage. I would have blown that fucker away and I would have gone on the nightly news to brag about the service I had done the community. I would have looked in the camera and directed the following comment to the perp's mother, "Whoops.....maybe you should have raised his dumb ass right."

It makes a lot more sense now. Even if you could have gotten away with it why you want manslaughter on your consciousness. I will get a Leo sign incorporated somewhere in my first ink design.

Why can't you let it go.
You did the right thing.
The money is nothing, your life and his is everything.
His death is much more painful than by gunpoint at YOUR HANDS.
All things will be taken care of, you were not weak and if you were it was all for a reason.
Let it go man let it go. FIVE YEARS

Avoided a repeated question several times. I'll take that as a yes, then.

So you bring a loaded gun with you to shroomery gatherings. I'll make sure I don't end up at one you're going to. You seem like an alright guy, honestly, just the idea of bringing a fucking gun around that many people who are fucked up is just wrong.

Just trying to help, I hate it when people are brought down around me, because as a feeler it brings me down too, and anyone else around you who knows how to tune in. If one good person is down, another must bring them up! Or else the whole world sufffers.
We are all going where we are headed, if we keep doing what we do in this direction :sun:

  \

Naw, he was moving away from the encounter and his weapon was sheathed. It would have been against the law.  the only time you can shoot somene in the back is if their weapon is trained on someone and you fear for their lives, even then it can be a mess if the person isn't a family member.

yessup was smart to keep a cool head, if you can't unmistakeably turn the situation to your advantage, its best not to draw attention to the fact you are actually armed.  Guns are expensive and being bitched smacked and havin yer weapon yanked is no fun( never happened to me).

I know hat you mean tho, fucking slob in Knoxville put his little shit piece in my face.  I had a glock 40, I left it sheathed and knockked that bitch straight the fuck out.  His girlfriend went crazy, she ws there in the hall with us. hahah.  i ran like a motherfucker. It simply wouldn't have done to trie and shoot his ass, I would have had to kill her too. It was unregistered and somepther things weighed in in my appreciation of the situation. So I like I said knocked his ass straight the fuck out. Ran like hell, he got me later though.  They ambushed me coming into the building sometime later.  Got good scars from that one.

moral is, you can't just be running around cappin people. It has to be clear that you are in mortal danger, some states require that state your intentions with a warning shot, not all. By all mean s tho, If a motherfucker is actively killing people right in front of you, or has his gun trained on you and you can seize advantage and render the theat no longer a threat then do so. Just be sure, cause if you fuck up

get some training if you really want to stay alive.  there are classes specifically for reallife situations.

I carry a .40 S&W. No, I don't feel paranoid or weak or any of that other BS some of you are spouting... I don't think carrying is any big deal, but i've been around guns since before I can remember. Honestly, if your living in a country where guns are a way of life for some, how is attempting to protect yourself wrong? If some asshole decides he wants to kill your ass, what are you going to do? Kick his ass? Whatever.... I've already seen enough "tough guys" come through the ER to know fists don't win against bullets. If you don't want the responsibility of carrying, then fine, don't. But don't try to tell those of us who do that it's weak or wrong... fuck that, i'd love to hear that come out of someone's mouth at gunpoint.
I've been shot at enough, and I don't ever intend to ever just sit and cower because I forgot a weapon. I'd rather shoot the fuckwad threatening me. Thank you and good night.

dawg this board is to aid in growing mushrooms, not a crimiinal activity. It is also a place where ideas are shared and rights put into practical use. We cool we cool. so what if someone is packing and you don't know and you at a gathering, consider yourself lucky you have a repsonsible and sensitive gun owner present.

we cool, you aint got nothing to fear from the people here.

I am against most gun control measures and have no problem with legally registered owners carrying. That's a citizens' right to do that. But it just seems like a can of worms - a way to make problems even worse. Maybe learn martial arts and break an attacker's kneecaps or elbow?

I once had a gun pulled on me by a mugger when I was walking home late from work. I know if I busted out a gun, things would have gotten bloody - he would have been spooked and blown my head off or I would have blown his head off. You really cant pull out a gun when there's one in your face - I think I would have been taken a bullet in the head. I just gave the guy what little cash I had and ran. The cops caught him the next night...

I am glad things happened that way.

in a country where handguns are illegal. no one should be getting shot, the
statistics on hand gun violence for the UK are actualy through the roof in
comparison to those in the US, same applies to most countries that have
very restrictive laws regarding ownership of hand guns, in canada homocide has
risen 12% from 2003 to 2004, although hand guns are not illegal in canada
the laws regarding them are quite restrictive

in 1998 there were aproximately 76million hand guns legally owned in the US
in 1997 hand gun ownership was banned in the UK, no one could legally own
a hand gun after that. Strangely, the crimes involving handguns jumped
by 40% in the following 2 years, hasnt the murder rate increased in the
UK enough to generate discussion on execution again, something that
your 'civilized country did away with in 1964 because it was 'barbaric and
there was no evidence that it curbed crime"?

Emory University recorded 18 fewer serious crimes with each execution we have
here, not that it's actualy a deterant, only an additional option for violent
criminals, When the death penalty was abolished in 1964 in the UK there
was a substantial increase in the murders occuring, this is of curse with
restrictive laws regarding the sale and transfer of hand guns, the rate is still
climbing but since there's no legal handguns it doesnt make any sense

Quote:

he official figures for gun crime in England and Wales in 2002/03 were announced in January 2004. There were a total of 24,070 firearm offences of which 57% (13,822) involved air weapons, the highest number of offences ever. The largest increase in offences was seen with imitation firearms for which there was an annual increase of 46% to 1815 offences.

Criminal statistics England and Wales 2002/2003. Supplementary Volume 1. Homicide and Gun Crime (edited by David Povey). National Statistics. January 2004

in 08/2003 the BBC erported an increase in gun related crimes of only 3%, a
considerably slower rise than previous years
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3195908.stm

Surely the Brittish government is doing something about the epidemic of murder in the UK

I wonder what's next on the BAN list for the UK? being the safe country that
has no guns, they shouldnt need to place a ban on knives, Especialy since the murder rate shouldnt be at a 10 year high

Nah, they'd never ban something as innocent as a pocket knife from the hands of
the innocent population, certainly not in a country where bar fights are just
something that buddies do to bond with each other, hell who doesnt like to
go drinking with their mates, I punch you in the eye, you stab me in the liver,
we all go home and have a great night and do it again tomorrow

Of course it's not the people that are to blame, it's those damned rappers,
there's been a noticable increase of movie posters storming into bars and
public meeting places and killing innocent drunkards trying to poke knives in
their friends back side, I'm sure that if you guys just kill off Eminem that
the crime in the UK will grind to a halt
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4412194.stm

of course with the increase of nonlethal weapons to aid police in the
apprehension of criminals, they wont have to do any work from here on
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/cornwall/4427640.stm

you guys should definately take a hint from your bastard cousins across the
deep blue, people dont kill people, inantimate objects do

No i don't get shot at frequently... i'm not living in afganistan... I did do a rather long tour of duty in the middle east. I was shot at by 6 guys in a beat up dutsun pickup truck doing the arabic version of a drive-by with AK-47's. I was on the side of a communications antennae, and the guy right below me working on the bottom adjustment mechanism caught a 7.62 with his foot. I also got lit up driving through Saudi with a Marine convoy.. nothing major, but bullets hitting anything near you is still scary. After that tour, I've always carried a gun... not that here is anything like over there, but it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Had we been rolling around without weapons, I wouldn't be here today.

Come on man, that isn't true. Like 10,000 gun murders happen in the US every year. We have about 10.

Hence my statement that hardly anyone gets shot. It's cuz noone has a gun.

Stabbings are common place though.

well one of my very good friends has a FFL (federal firearms licenses) and he ALWAYS carries unless he goes to a bar or fed build etc where you can't carry. He sells $100,000 worth of firearms a month and is the leading SIG dealer in Florida. He has told me there are many rules when you can or can't shoot someone. I might be a little rusty on this but I know if someone breaks into your house you can let'em have it. In Florida your car is an extension of your domain as in your house where as if someone is trying to force there way in while you are in it you may shoot them. But if you are able to leave the situation safely then it's not OK. As in when that black guy left and had his back to you and you were not in danger then you may not shoot him, or if he is trying to drive away and leave and not raising a gun at you then you can't shoot him. These laws vary a great deal by state though.

On a second note someone very close to me was sleeping with his wife and one of his friends came into there house piss drunk and shot and killed him. It was changed his life a great deal. He is now a devote Christian and goes to church more than anyone I know. Since then he hasn't touched a gun.

the statistics on hand gun violence for the UK are actualy through the roof in comparison to those in the US

Come on man, that isn't true. Like 10,000 gun murders happen in the US every year. We have about 10.

Hence my statement that hardly anyone gets shot. It's cuz noone has a gun.

Stabbings are common place though.

Scottish homicide rate hits ten-year high Dec 15 2005
SCOTLAND'S homicide rate has reached its highest level in nearly ten years, fuelled by a culture of violence, drink and drugs.

Figures released yesterday show that in 2004-5 there were 137 victims of killings - murder and culpable homicide - 29 more than the previous year, and the highest total since 1995.

Glasgow remains the city with the highest annual homicide rate in Scotland, with 55 victims per million population, more than double the national rate of 22.

As in previous years, knives and other sharp objects were the most common method of killing, accounting for 72 victims - the highest recorded in a decade.

In almost three-quarters of the cases, the main accused was known to their victim, while 18 per cent involved strangers.

The new figures from the Scottish Executive prompted Cathy Jamieson, the justice minister, to detail the measures that were in hand and to promise moves to tackle the "cultural acceptance of violent behaviour" prevalent in some communities.

As revealed in The Scotsman last week, such initiatives include expanding Strathclyde Police's violence reduction unit into a national "centre of excellence" to share best practice for violence prevention.

Ms Jamieson also listed new laws, such as those creating tougher penalties for carrying knives, and licensing curbs on binge drinking.

"For too long, violence has been a fact of life - cutting short too many young lives and undermining our collective hopes to create a safer, stronger Scotland," Ms Jamieson said.

"Serious violent behaviour is a problem which rarely affects those living in our leafy suburbs. It is, however, a harsh daily reality for too many people in hard-pressed communities."

By the end of last month, 189 people had been accused of the killings, again the highest total since 1995.

In the 127 cases where the state of the alleged killer was known, 45 per cent were drunk, 15 per cent were both drunk and on drugs and 10 per cent were on drugs.

More than half the cases have so far resulted in a conviction for murder or culpable homicide.

Kenny MacAskill, the SNP's justice spokesman, said: "What is utterly appalling is that Glasgow has a higher homicide rate than Belfast and is more than double the Scotland-wide rate.

"We need to address the knife culture and also vigorously stamp out our growing gun culture. The underlying roots of these problems are drink, drugs and deprivation. These need to be targeted, but we need to make it abundantly clear to those who use guns, knives or other weapons that they will be shown no mercy in our courts."

Margaret Mitchell, the Conservative justice spokeswoman, said: "The criminal justice system is haemorrhaging due to a lack of police on our streets and the operation of automatic early release. Some of the homicides are committed by those who should still be in prison."

blablablabla

age old debate. I'm sure the cavemen ate shrooms, and debated weather it was appropriate to carry the spear in non-hunting situations.

The point is, you never know when shit will happen. Its best to be prepared for it. I like the idea of carrying a gun, because i don't want a situation to come about, where my life, or my family's lives are threatened, and i am left helpless to do anything about it.
Situations like this happen ALL the time. Maybe not to everybody, but to a lot of people. Random people. It doesn't matter if you live in a big city.
The day some asshole starts shooting. What will you say you did to help? Used your non-violent attitude to diffuse the confrontation?

Is that a trick question?
I'm not an N.R.A. member, but i assume the law states that you cannot carry the gun while intoxicated, not that you can't have a beer with dinner, and carry the gun.
Common sence would tell you that there is a differance between the two.

I doubt it, they were under constatn threat of attack by other tribes and sometimes animals. Did the cowboy wonder if he should carry his gun in the wild west, what about the miner in the clondike?

They probably loved tham shroomies tho.

we have 250 million guns, rifles and pistols, we have a declining number of
violent crimes involving firearms, the brady bill was lifted allowing military
style rifles to be sold with pistol grips and bayonett lugs, magazine capacities
were increased from 10 rounds to 30+ rounds for all weapons, from 1993 to 2004,
the number of crimes involving guns has dropped dramaticly, only 7% of our
violent crimes involve firearms, that is also on the decline. we are getting
more privelidge each day regarding firearms, we're a bunch of john fucking
waynes over here, shooting up anything and everythng, at least as far as
other countries and the international press are concerned, yet our crime rates
are plummeting... why do you think that is?

ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm

the UK, for a place with no guns, there are far too many shootings. I mean look
at the figures, your country is in turmoil, sure there are fewer murder than in
the US but look at the population differences, look at the differences in
cultures, we are the hollywood action film of the world, we have all the guns
and less crime than previous years, you have no guns and more crime each year
more brutal murders involving gun than you legaly can own have in your country

I really dont understand how you guys arent terrified to leave your home for a
biscuit and tea, I mean now that they are stripping away your next line
of defense now that guns are only in the hands of criminals

He has told me there are many rules when you can or can't shoot someone.

the absolute basic is, you must have 100% certainty that you believe that your
life or the life of another is in jeopardy, if you have the fear that a life
will be ended, it does not matter where you are (public gatherings, political
rallies, bars and public buildings excluded) when you shoot them.

I've been in the situation a couple times in my cab, I drew my pistol and used
it in defense of the life of another, a woman that came running from between
some trees and buildings, she was genuinely terrified, I stopped and she jumped
in, as i was starting to drive off the guy came running out and jumped in front
of my taxi, I hit him, stopped and jumped out, drew the pistol and went to check
on him, the woman in the back screaming to for me to drive away the whole time

I radioed to my dispatcher to send lots of cops that there was an armed man in
front of my cab and an armed civilian detaining him, a couple minutes later
there were a dozen cops screaming in, he was laying face down in my headlights,
I had my gun on him and the cops never even flinched about my pistol, didnt even
ask me to lay it down or point their guns at me

there is a reason that the crime rate in america is getting lower, people
are tired of being victims, cops understand that, as long as you're within
the law in the way you handle it, leave them an uninjured assailant to prosecute
they;ll tip their hat and wish you a nice day, shoot them and they gotta do
paperwork or their job or something, that fucks up their night and you'll be
stuck with some unpleasantries yourself

LoL! I'm with Prisoner#1. He made very valid statements... all I can really say is a repeat... I wouldn't be here today if I hadn't had a weapon. It's grizzly, and sad, but it's reality... that's just the way it is. I'll still have a shotgun under my bed and a .40 on my back for that 6 seconds... I couldn't live with myself if anything ever happened in my house that threatened the life of my wife and I didn't at least try to do something about it.

BTW, I also think your grandad was a wise man.

Hmm, yes, isn't that perculiar, that the amount of crimes involving handguns should rise in the 2 years after THEY WERE MADE ILLEGAL. Hence more offences leading to prosecution for carrying guns

I've lived in England for 20 years and have only once heard about someone getting shot in my county, when some gun obsessed ex SAS headcase machine gunned his girlfriend in a pub car park. The last time i remember hearing about someone getting shot on the news over here, it was the police doing the killing. In fact, the last TWO shootings i remember hearing about were both by the police, and both people killed were innocent. People in this country do not worry that somebody might randomly decide to start shooting at their family when they nip down the shop to buy some milk. I'm not saying things like this dont happen over here, but i can safely say the majority of us don't lose any sleep over it. And we definitely dont try and justify carrying a fucking hand cannon into McDonalds to go buy a McFlurry by concocting such far-fetched scenarios.

But you just go ahead and keep on stereotyping our country. It's quite ironic really... considering the stereotype us Brits have about the yanks being a nation of paranoid, firearm-obsessed flag-waving lunatics.

Bowling For Columbine, anyone?

I admire the sentiment behind banning guns... but that's only doing the same thing making drugs illegal is doing... Only the criminals have guns, and now you have a back market in guns where no one who's selling them give a shit if it's a kid or violent offender that is buying it. Personally, i'd rather have that potential burgaler/mugger/rapist/muderer shitting himself that he might get shot during his crime.

by 40% in the following 2 years"

wasn't much better...

But anyways, i was just pointing out that there might have been a slight bit of bias behind your research. If ur gonna play cowboys and indians that's your choice. Not my country, not my problem  lol :tongue2:

www.dumpalink.com/media/1113732903/Robbery_Gone_Bad

Personally I think the clerk should have shot through the clothes rack. I mean seriously what a dumb shit. Ohh some pants I can hide behind. Secondly, he went about the robbery the totally wrong way, I mean duhh get up on the mofucka, don't stand so damn far away. Finally, the clerk doesn't seem to smart for doing what he did @ the very end. Doesn't he know you shouldn't do that.

Now for my opinion on the subject. I think you should be allowed to carry, as someone said before "you never know when you'll need it." I mean you people are saying why did he take it into dinner with him and that he should have nothing to worry about if he is going to a nice place. FUCK THAT. If he has the right to carry take it where ever you are allowed, you will never know when you could save your life or the life of another. [edit]However don't fuck up as you could cost your life or the life of an innocent person[/edit]. I wouldn't mind going and getting a license, but right now I am young and still have nights/years of getting fucked up and don't think it is a good time. Maybe in the future.

Hmm, yes, isn't that perculiar, that the amount of crimes involving handguns should rise in the 2 years after THEY WERE MADE ILLEGAL. Hence more offences leading to prosecution for carrying guns

maybe I should have been more specific, 'violent crimes involvng hand guns'
can you explain why there are still so many shootings when there are no guns?

Quote:

I've lived in England for 20 years and have only once heard about someone getting shot in my county

in almost 180 years thares not been a single murder in my town, none involving
guns, none with knives or poisons, everyone owns guns, I personaly have 17, my
neighbor is a collector, has about 80, everyone I've met here has a few
hell our police force is 2 people strong and I'm yet to see them move from the
diner in town unless it's to pick up something from the store or deliver a pizza

Quote:

when some gun obsessed ex SAS headcase machine gunned his girlfriend in a pub car park. The last time i remember hearing about someone getting shot on the news over here, it was the police doing the killing. In fact, the last TWO shootings i remember hearing about were both by the police, and both people killed were innocent.

there seems to be a lot of that sort of thing happening in the UK, you let your
government decide that the citizens arent allowed to own firearms wile it's the
police that are displaying the gross incompetence with fierarms? sounds like
if you let the police go from their duties the crime rate would be nil

Quote:

People in this country do not worry that somebody might randomly decide to start shooting at their family when they nip down the shop to buy some milk. I'm not saying things like this dont happen over here, but i can safely say the majority of us don't lose any sleep over it. And we definitely dont try and justify carrying a fucking hand cannon into McDonalds to go buy a McFlurry by concocting such far-fetched scenarios.

as a kid I learned a couple of things about forrests, if you go into forrest
take along a knife and a compass, you wouldnt want to get lost in the woods
because you didnt have a means of navigation, lets assume you forgot that compas
and you may be staying a few days, that knife will come in handy should you get
hungry, a little work with the knife can feed you, traps, snares, weapons...
knives are wonderful tools, just like a compass, they are indespensible

so you've been in the woods a few days, you'd like to go home, you dont have a
compass so you need to know how to read the forest in order to navigate, well
most of us know that moss grows on the north side of a tree, that makes things
easier especialy if you payed attention to how you entered the forrest, the
point is that we prefer to be prepared in the event of a problem, not that
we are afraid to live in our communites, we dont carry a spare tire in the boot
to wave in people faces and threaten to fill them full of tread, we do it
because sometimes, shit happens.

Quote:

But you just go ahead and keep on stereotyping our country. It's quite ironic really... considering the stereotype us Brits have about the yanks being a nation of paranoid, firearm-obsessed flag-waving lunatics.

I believe it was someone from your country that made the exact same stereotype
about this one, I was simple pointing out a fact, the UK citizens have been
disarmed, they're soon to loose airguns and knives, they have incompetent law
enforcemet personel shooting anyone they think dresses 'wrong', frankly, I'd be
afraid in that situation because I'd have no means of defense against all the
criminals that have the guns, after all, if you have a gun in the UK, you are a
criminal under the law

the was, there always will be, I post to encouraeg different opinions from
intelligent people such as yourself and mistaminer, I'm not trying to do anything
more than make a little light of the whole debate and maybe get something of actual truth...

one of the things that you guys dont see is the media bias we endure, foriegn
press reports on news in our papers, they show you guys how we are all so afraid
and dont sleep at night because we know the gangs are coming to do drive bys in
our quiet communities, they show you what they want you to see, our own news
media does the same, "viscious pit bull attacks family of 4, 3yr old girl
disfigured", thats a headline that grabs peoples attention, in truth, more
cocker spaniels attack children than any other dog, but cockers are cute
they dont look intimidating like  one of these

more people are alive in this country because of guns than are dead from them

this is a Remmington model 700 in .308, both are sniper rifles, well the
.50 isnt authorized for use on personel, it's meant to shoot equipment like

Don't get me wrong here, i don't want to come across as some clueless anti-gun fuckwit trying to impose my own moral values on other people... i have also been brought up around guns, i love shooting!

I'm a member of the BASC (British Association for Shooting and Conservation), i've been shooting shotguns since i was a kid, i'm a member of one of the country's most respected air rifle clubs, and i think we should all have the right to own guns (with the appropriate licensing of course) and should the day ever come, the right to use them defensively (not offensively) in our own homes to protect ourselves and our families from intruders in EXTREME circumstances. I've been taught to respect and responsibly use guns from an early age and i think it's critical that we teach our kids the same.

But this country does not need more handguns on the street, no matter who is pointing them at who.

I'm sure you can appreciate this viewpoint, as i can appreciate your "better safe than sorry" policy. You sound like a clued up, responsible gun user who is not very likely to go out blasting as soon as some guy pisses you off, which is great, but the sad fact is, you're probably one of the minority of people who CAN exercise that self-control in volatile situations.

I wish that it was legal over here to keep handguns locked away at highly secure target practice clubs which they are not taken away from. I'd love to come over there and do one of those shooting activity weekends someday, that would be sweet.

it was actualy a stupid joke, 'shoot the uniform not the person'

That's a load of poopie... I served with guys who've been in frontline combat back in '91. They'd tell you that they'd shoot you in the face with a 120mm howitzer if it was available... what your shooting someone with when under fire makes little difference unless it jams. And who the hell is going to measure grain weights to see whether a kill was "legal"? I'd carry the heaviest, nastiest slugs I could buy! At least then you only have to hit once.

Those Barrett .50 BMGs are a riot to shoot... and so damn accurate, I can see why some marines were saving entire paychecks for a few weeks to buy one. I bought a Bennelli M4 Super 90 to carry over there, but I was mainly in populated areas. I'm still drooling over those AA12's...

But outside of combat zones, I think a good rifle, shotgun, and a pistol are necessary, at least they are around here... Most folks hunt, alot of them hunt several seasons. Gotta have the right gun for the job at hand... but I also think that small town NM isn't like most places... most folks here have had guns around them all their lives and were taught how to use them safely... Driving around our town, you'll see quite a few trucks with rifles in the back window. For a town of about 35,000 people, we have relatively little crime. 90% of the crime we have is because of illegal coke and meth traffickers getting into arguements or payment disputes.... and most of the time that doesn't happen in town because people know that if they started shooting at each other here, all their neighbors might start blasting at them just to keep everyone else safe. We haven't had a shooting here since January, and that was a coke deal gone bad and the person shot lived. I attribute at least some of that to the fact that we are an armed populace that isn't going to be victimized easily.

Wonder how many police there are in the country, probably not as many as their are civilians with guns.

I can't wait til the day the country needs over throwing and yall aint got no guns.  you are fucked.

hehe   but nowadays you cant do much either. back in the day when america was founded they said we should all have guns incase we needed to over throw the government. but the governement is so strong now with the military backin it up.... no real population in the western world could over throw their government anymore no matter how bad they needed it.

unless all the people in the military joined their families in the fight against the government

the military can't do shit.  Posse Commitatus makes it illegal for the governemnt to deploy any of the armed forces on american soil for the use of law enforcement. It also makes aillegal the allocation of funds for the military to be used on american soil.

Wonder how many police there are in the country, probably not as many as their are civilians with guns.

Disclaimer, I am not advocating the violent over throw of the Amercian Government.

dont be so stupid man... although this may be true, since when does the government really care about the laws? america tested lsd on american civilians back in the cold war. it tested it on co-workers in the cia department. just now they were caught kidnapping people, shipping them to foreign countries sutch as poland, and torturing them.
if any outbreak were to occur, the government would go to win all at costs mode and use the military how ever it felt it needed to be used.

There's so many fucking tools in this thread.  I lost respect for a lot of members from this thread.  I can't believe people around here are stupid and ignorant enough around here to fucking blame guns, they are simply a tool no better or worse than the man handling them.
