Flow Hood Filter + Blower

Ive been sorting through the search engine.  Im not 100% sure how to match a filter to a blower.  After doing some reading and research, I think I might have a slight idea.

The filter Im looking at:



From what Im reading, we need a filter with around 1.0 resistance.  This one has 1.12 making it a close match.

Then the blower.  I understand I need a blower that does 200cfm for this filter at 1.12 resistance.  I should add a little for prefilter and other factors. 

Is this blower a match for these specs:

I dont have any problem spending a little more than I must.  Seems like too much power is better than not enough.  I wish somewhere in the search engine someone said "This 24x24 filter with this blower" and I would be all over that.

I would like to stay with 24x24 to make it easier to work with if possible.

Hmmmm

Im starting to understand why there isnt an abundance of info on these forums about matching filters to blowers.

Anyone have a guess even?

What's the reason you think there isn't info?

In the past couple months I've answered several questions myself about matching filters and blowers. It's simple math, and the info is definitely out there

1. Find out the area of your filter by multiplying the width and the height in feet (for instance the smallest reasonably usable filter would be 2ft x 1ft)

2ft x 1ft = 2 ft2
2. Multiply the required air speed(the one Stamets specifies, 100 ft/min) with the area of your filter

100 ft/min x 2 ft2 = 200 ft3/min
So 200 ft3/min(= cfm = "cubic feet per minute") is the amount of air your blower must deliver at the sum of the STATIC PRESSURE of the HEPA filter + prefilter.

NOTE: 1 cfm= 1.7m3/h

So if you use the above filter with 1"(250Pa) static pressure and a furnace prefilter with a static pressure of 0.2"(50Pa) your blower must deliver 200 cfm(340m3/h) of air at a static pressure of 1.2"(300Pa).

2 foot by 2 foot = 4 foot X 100cfm = 400cfm I would need at 1.12 static pressure according to this filter.

Since this blower does quiet reach that at 1.12, it must not be strong enough.

24x24=4ft2. you need a blower that pushes 400cfm minimum at approximately 1.0sp.
so, figuring in for prefilter and time, shoot for a blower that puts out 500cfm@1.0sp.

Thanks for confirming what I have found out. 

Spent the last 2 1/2 hours searching ebay/grainger/google for a blower that is around 500cfm@1.0sp.  I must be going about this the wrong way, will try to figure it out tomorrow again.

i spent 2 weeks in that same frame of mind, MM.
in the end, i decided to call an hvac contractor, after calling 3 or 4 i found one who told me he had several, so come on by and check em out.
so after all the mental jumping jacks i wound up looking into the back of a box truck, going "that one looks big enough, i'll take that one. and if it dont work, i know that gigantic one will. i'll take both".
i gave him $50 and left. my flowhood now has a far-bigger-than-i-need blower on it.
its big enough, when/if i want to upgrade, it would likely be enough for a 4x4 hepa.
so there ya go. forget all this hemmin and hawwin, losing sleep and getting treated like a shithead by strangers o an internet forum. go to a random HVAC guy in your area and buy the biggest blower he has. take it home, hook it up and start blocking off the intake till it works.
thats what i did.
