Here's a sample of French Canadian music (Quebecer) for those interested. Its good I promise

So I wanted to make this thread for months now but I didn't want it to just disappear in the pub with 2 replies like other music threads. I didn't know if I should just pick a bunch of random songs or simply pick one band, there's a lot to choose from. So today, fuck it. Here's 3 songs from one of my favorite band. They have like 50 awesome songs, here's 3.

The songs aren't half as good until you read the lyrics. Quebec has a very social and idealistic mentality, most of you will love the lyrics so click the links under the vids for the translation. The vids are only the song so you can just read the translation page while you listen.

The band is "Les Cowboys Fringuants"  (There's a lot more songs I can give you if you like it)

god I hate this band so much, especially because of the lyrics.
it's so easy to be anti-government/big corp, if you don't bring anything new to the discussion then I don't want to hear it.
plus they are kind of hypocretical, bitching about bigbadevil-capitalism and then charging BIG bucks for tickets to their show :rolleyes:

I'll pass.

a new style? it's traditional music made in the 2000's nothing new here.

if you like them check out Mes Aieux. same kind of style but better "musicaly" with a broader range of theme in their lyrics.

I thought the third song was pretty decent, at least the music. I don't usually give a shit about lyrics really, and I don't know french well enough to pick up much at that speed. I read the translation and the subject matter didn't interest me very much.

you guys really should check patlal's vids as he's right when he says you gon like it.
I just have a very harsh opinion on political music when it's made by "my" peeps. but you know that's just like, my opinion.

Okay, listening now.

1- Odd instrumentation / arrangement, but not bad. Different. I like different.

2- Lyrics to song 1 = some of the most depressing shit I've read in a while. Pretty, but god DAMN that's some heavy stuff.

I think not being a french-speaker, the emotion of the lyrics is kind of lost. Reading it was a very deep experience. Hearing it, there is this kind of disconnect... as the phonemes I'm hearing from the singer do not reasonate the meaning I read, if you get what I mean... and the singer is not the most expressive (vocally) either.

In other words, I'd probably like this more if I were a french-speaker.

I'll check the others out, though....

That reminds me of the type of shit this dude I know listens to and gets REALLY into, but in French.  He also wears a kilt with combat boots in public.
