LSD vs Mushrooms and genuine spiritual experience
    #17163994 -

I've taken mushrooms at least 30+ times and acid 3 times.  I had a thought on mushrooms once that acid does not provide a genuine spiritual experience, only a fake one.  I've had what seem like spiritual insights from both drugs but is it possible one is more genuine than the other?

Edit:  To clarify, I guess I am talking more about spiritual revelations and the thoughts that I have on these substances.

There's the perspective that some experiences are more 'real' than others. For instance, revelations acquired thru meditation and self-denial might be valued above quick and easy methods.

Good point.  I guess I'm just in a bit of turmoil at the moment and am getting conflicting messages all over the place.  Perhaps that's the point.

Conservatively, the time it takes to achieve different states of perception is part of the values argument.

1./ Nothing acquired easily is valued as high as something worked for.

2./ Time is measured upon a different scale in alternate spiritual worlds.

A counter-argument would provide that definitions become hazy when examined from different standards of time.

A conservative, God-like view of maturity being substantially different from what we might consider appropriate.

It's a judgment call we each make for ourselves.

(I think I raised the salient point against the conservative perspective.)

Don't believe everything you think?

I'm not really sure what you're asking here... You think because shrooms are more 'natural' they are more genuine? Why would LSD give you a fake experience? Like others have said, what is a fake experience? Tell us more, please. What spiritual insight is conflicting against the other?

In layman terms; Mescalito, the god of mescaline doesn't see eye to eye with Dionysis the god of wine for example. I don't know if one is more genuine than the other.

My psychedelic journey began when I was very young--15--with LSD. I knew nothing about magic mushrooms till many years later, and all I knew about LSD came from the stuff I was seeing at that time in various places--we are are talking 1971. So on one hand you had the straights putting a negative vibe on LSD and hippies and on the other hand was all the counter culture that even before taking acid I was naturally attracted to because it seems SO fukin KOOL lol

Now. making long story short. As a child ---to about 8/9--I had had a magical sense of nature. But school. peer pressure. personal problems etc had been making me hard, dull, with a growing sadistic streak, and I had lost interest in nature, and was obsessed with big cities. LSD totally flushed all that acculturation away. The most powerful part of the Trips I had that helped me were the slow come downs when we would often go out at dawn and walk around gardens and into parks, and I would see the world magically again. So all of that deep connection with nature I had had as a child returned to me thanks to Albert Hofmann's 'Wonder Child' LSD!!

In later years when I began reading about psychedelics and a great assortment of books, I came across some people who would argue that only organic psychedelics were the best, and those 'made in a lab' like LSD were not as spiritually good. Hmmmmph, well I beg to differ. I didn't have time to nurture such a prejudice. I also must say that I value ALL the psychedelics, and their unique ways for helping to inspire us. it pisses me off when I sometimes read from Ayahuasca experiencers, etc and they make out that only THEIR psychedelic is the 'best'. It is a silly thing to say for many reasons.

ALSO I am always learning---recently I listened to an interview with James Fadiman, and he said that LSD totally leaves the organism after about one hour and a half, and so this means that it has triggered something which then continues for the duration of the Trip etc!

Present! - (part one) Seeking the Divine Within with James Fadiman, Ph.D.

Quote:
4:48 ...What makes most sense is to realize that the medical model isn't the correct model. The medical model is, you take something, say an aspirin, and your body has a change, and then the aspirin goes away and your body goes back to normal...What happens when you take a psychedelic, under good circumstances, is that you take it, and by the time it leaves the body the experience has not yet come to a peak so we are already dealing with something other than the psychedelic, and the end of that experience is not the experience of going back to normal, it's learning, and what people do is they learn something about themselves, about the universe, about their own relationships, and obviously learning lasts a long long long time.

Interviewer: How long does it take for LSD to wear off?

LSD leaves the body in about an hour and a half, and LSD experience is about 8-12 hours. So something in the body has been activated, and that activation remains, [climaxes] and diminishes over that amount of time.

Interviewer: You’ve made an analogy of taking psychedelics as composting?

Well, what happens when your using it therapeutically which is one of the ways, it takes your old experiences that your no longer using, and rather than keep them around kinda like on the shelves and bothering you, is that it literally allows you to create new experiences out of what you see were the problems in the old experience.
Remember compost—the prior word of compost was called garbage, and so, unlike the computer world, garbage in garbage out, the natural world is garbage out compost in, new growth, and that’s the model that makes more sense….Aldous Huxley called it, ‘as if you were seeing the world on the first day of creation’, so there’s a freshness to experience, and that includes a freshness to your own life. And what you realize is that your identity prior to the psychedelic experience was somewhat limited, and what you now have learned is that you are more than that, and to the extent that you are more than that your problems are a smaller part of you, and in a sense they become less interesting

Yeah it's funny this came up the other night, because when I go out I can tell who the acid-heads are, the ones who've done a bit too much, just by their mannerisms etc.  But I guess that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a valid experience, it just means don't overdo it!  But yeah, I know what you mean about mushroom people, it feels like there is more real healthy/grounded wisdom there.

It's interesting because I do believe that man-made substances are obviously not designed for our bodies, unlike natural ones, and for that reason are less healthy.  But just because it's not designed for our bodies doesn't mean it's not good for us spiritually.  I know Timothy Leary seemed to think that acid and ketamine could reach higher states of consciousness than both mushrooms and mescaline.  And when I'm on acid that totally makes sense to me.  But I dunno, it's like there is some intelligence behind the mushroom that acid could never have, because it is inorganic.

To me shrooms are a lot more introspective. A drug that makes me look at himself more is the more spiritual tool to me. I don't care if it's natural or man made. I will always consider acid the party psychedelic, and shrooms the spiritual psychedelic.

i think lsd is just as genuine as mushrooms in the spiritual sense it just has a different method of delivery. real lsd is the tough one though i know so many people who have never tried lsd but swear they have just because they took an rc that gave the visuals.

for me mushrooms bombard me with information about the universe and everything in it

lsd on the other hand gives me more insigth into who i am and how i should be and give me alot fewer insigths and info but works on them for longer so they stick. also lsd has given me some great experiences where ive had epiphany after epiphany for hours nonstop it is the most amazing feeling. i literally thought that i wasnt human anymore i was just a big ball of happiness no more i wanted to die because life could not get any better than it was at that moment

EVERY Trip you have with LSD is unique to the individual, and every Trip it unique. Same is so with magic mushrooms, etc. So you cannot say 'it' does 'this that or the other'. It is all depending on set and setting and dosage of course.

for me lsd does not work in a party setting either i tripped once and had invited people over and it ended with everyone bored out of their mind while i laid on the floor laughing hysterically while staring at the ceiling for hours having epiphany after epiphany. but it is way better when i take it alone the same with mushrooms only difference is that with mushrooms i sit in one spot and barely move on lsd i want to move and feel every muscle in my body it feels like im sober but to a different extent i feel more human and in touch with everything.

with mushrooms its like a drunk sleepy high and very hard to balance myself on it. on lsd i feel like im experiencing perfection within on mushrooms i experience perfection outside in everything in the universe. both are very spiritual and in the end take me to the same place but it is a different ride. they each hold a special place in my heart they are polar opposites yet they are identical.

although ive yet to take massive doses of lsd like i have with mushrooms but that will change very very soon

also in my experience set and setting really arent that big an issue in how the trip goes it only affects my feeling of comfort with my surroundings for example alone i go crazy and very very deep into my experience but with people i contain my self i hold back and in return i keep myself from going as deep as i like into the experience.

for me set and setting are just  important to keep myself from ending up in jail or just avoiding paranoia in general other than that it really isnt a problem but then again i prefer to trip alone and away from everything

I much prefer taking mushrooms both in theory & practice

I like that they spring up from the ground so nature has provided the perfect entheogen for you ready made, they are also easy to grow yourself if they dont grow locally during mushroom season, whereas making lsd is complicated, and if you find it (or it finds you) can you really trust the source with all these RC's knocking about?

In practice i find mushrooms easier on my system physically, i can feel LSD in my blood/system for days afterwards, whereas mushrooms feel clean & cleansing, i also find that mushrooms can be slightly less visual & more emotion oriented whereas LSD was very visual for me, which for the purpose of spirituality/meditation can be distracting, on mushrooms i find i can meditate into/with the visions, but on LSD the visions have more control, LSD may be better for the inexperienced tripper who just wants to see some 'crazy shit', i remember when i first started tripping i wanted more visual excitement that the mushrooms just weren't giving me

I really recommend finding wild mushrooms if you can, ime the mushrooms local to you are the best ones to take, and if your one of the ones who prefer the 'organic' side of mushrooms vs LSD, having wild mushrooms grown in your country further adds to that preference, the best overall experience i've had so far was from liberty caps which grow wild here in the UK, and the satisfaction of finding them is incomparable to scoring tabs of LSD from a drug dealer, i find anyway

Im definitely on the organic side of things, not to say inorganic is lesser, just that in my system organic works better, i could see myself tripping on mushrooms once a month or even a week for the rest of my life & being mentally & physically healthy, but i couldn't say the same about LSD

I see your point. However that's precisely why I love shrooms. I love doing absolutely nothing because doing anything clouds my thoughts. Under shrooms I don't want my body to be moving and I don't want anything distracting me. I feel shrooms automatically make me meditate which is why I feel they're way more spiritual. To me running around seeing everything in a new light is nothing like what shrooms teach. Actually the fact u think they both end in the same place makes me question your experience.
