Mother, Anarchy and its role in social changes
    #15268402 -

My original comment on this picture was that if the mother in the image was at all archetypal or symbolic, and that she was preparing and sustaining this anarchist for 'a day of work', then the image is expressing something profound. The statement of the Oracle in The Matrix, "it is my job to unbalance the equation" (that is definitely not verbatim, but that is the idea) comes to mind as the Oracle was the 'Mother', while the Architect of the Matrix was the 'Father'.

What I'd also like to discuss further is, are anarchists and those individuals that fit the stereotype and general characteristic of the flag bearer in the image, are they vitally important in regard to phenomenon of the order of social change, revolution, major protests and the like? It is them, I might argue, that act as the basis for some of these movements, acting as a kind of chaotic, burning core (forgive me for unnecessarily poetic description) for a wider group of people to form around, at least initially.

If these kinds of people did not exist, would the 'every-man' be able to come together in an act of resistance and/or defiance?

IMO the Matrix has it backwards. The female half of the equation provides structure and stability while the male half disrupts and distorts it into new patterns.

This is how it has been evolutionarily. The Y chromosome is an incomplete copy of the X chromosome, making the male more phenotypically expressive of deviations in his one complete X chromosome. This makes the male a special agent of selective adaptation, since if these deviations provide a natural advantage he is capable of reproducing them in greater proportion. The male is a sort of experimental test subject for mutations while the female safeguards the phenotypic legacy.

It's an incomplete analogy, but you could say the social situation mirrors the genetic situation. We generally associate a willingness to try new things with masculinity, and associate maintenance and conservation with femininity.

As in genetics, the male tries new things, potentially deadly and foolish new things, while the female nurtures and conserves the beneficial outcomes of that type of behavior.

I only say it's an incomplete analogy because the expression of gender seems not to be perfectly harmonious with the expression of sex. There are hermaphrodites and transgender individuals, and there are female anarchists and male homemakers.
