Buddha, Jesus, and some guy on the internet. Whats the difference?
    #13626076 -

From another thread.

Quote:
And if you want to compare the author to jesus or the buddha, feel free. But to me the differences are very clear.

OK So what are we talking about here?

What does it take for someone to become a great teacher?

From a unity POV everyone is a piece of the whole.  In this way no teacher is any greater than any other.

IMO To value any one person's "insight" over all others requires a dualistic view of the world.  In someway that person has to be "better" than you are...but how does one define "better" anyway?

This is kind of a rambling post since I can't quite wrap my head around what's on my mind.  Maybe a few replies will help.

Everything in life is the teacher, some things just teach you in a very roundabout way.

It must be someone who teaches you the direct way

Here's how I see it. If the "teacher" speaks to your condition in a way you can hear or even feel most comfortable with,  you will glom onto them. Others may even have a more powerful message but because it is too frightening or presented in an unacceptable manner they may be ignored almost completely or even labeled  as a complete nut or even evil.:satansmoking:

the fact that someone is your teacher doesn't make them better than you. You are in your place and they are in theirs. Assuming that there is some ultimate enlightenment somewhere and that both you and your teacher will both eventually find a path that leads you there (infinite possibilities, eventually it will happen), then you both reach enlightenment. It is foolish to say that your teacher is better than you because he has already reached enlightenment. Time is irellevant

To trust the insights gained by others equally or above the insights you yourself have gained seems bass ackwards and likely even dangerous. If I told you I have learned that jumping off a cliff is the only way to defy gravity, would you trust this insight the same as your own insight about the nature of gravity? Would you test it because it's equally valid?

Things said are not always truthful or warranting of trust. So how do you decide? If you ask me, the best way is to look to your own self and your own insights before trusting blindly the insights told  by another. That is valuing one person's "insight" over all others

You're definition of teacher is too strict Kickle. My teacher is nature and none other. Nature contains all the contradictions and beauty that I contain. We're both infinite.
So, when I watched one of my friends descend into a state of nature, I couldn't help but learn from him. He didn't consciously throw any insights at me, but he drew me into what he was experiencing and allowed me to draw my own conclusions. The state of nature that exists in him has shown me some of the greatest truths about humanity that I have ever witnessed.

I wasn't trying to define what a teacher is. Anything and anyone can be a teacher far as I can tell.

the guru is the greatest teacher

which is you , however, the you , the you that is one with the state , the highest potential that you can make in one lie time of intense purification, that supreme reality ,

THAT supreme reality
THAT ,
that guru ,
that is the supreme truth, and after the realization is imparted, you are that , and you are that to others,

countless billions may teach you subtle karmic lessons over lives, but think about the benefit of going beyond

, you know the saying ?
gone beyond, gone beyond, the goer has gone beyond
gate gate para gate para sam gate .....
bodhi swaha !

the man on the street might enlighten you about the price of gas or this and that , he might be wise about stuff, but is he one ? the elevation of spirit can be seen with levels that is not a wrong way to think about it, the physical chakras are obvious

solar plexus gurus = drill sergeants
mckenanna, probably third eye but all his intellect, wow, strong throat chakra guru ,
see ?
sahsrara, going beyond..... becoming one ,  what of us  who of us is there ? a few . those are the guru , and then some.

the guru is an accelerator, you are the wood he is the fire, then you are the fire ....

Buddha and Jesus were both masters.

Obviously Christ is far above the physical plane.

But a master is one who has, mastered the physical plane.

He/she can come and go at will from the earth plane without the Birth//Death cycle.

Christ and the Buddha may have been teachers but most importantly they were awakeners.

Yeah well IMO it is the right opinion (Haha)..

It is interesting. I remember a thread a few months back when someone asked what was the difference between the Buddha and a regular person is.. you said "the buddha is awake" I believe.

Obviously you didn't mean "awake" in the normal sense of the word?

Apparently you share my opinion :ooo:

I really don't know what the buddha was.  I was just repeating what he said.

But imo anyone can be awake in the way he was.  He was awake to some basic psychology of his human nature and that is all.  People make him out to be some kind of spiritual master whatever that's supposed to mean.
