Isn't an older part of the human brain reptilian ?

So what if you barely sleep you need REM sleep or your go nuts in a very short while and it's been proven. "

Oh so its proven? Oh ok nevermind. Must be true for all people in all places and in all situations. My bad.

It is your bad, it's true for all human brains. Do some research.

.. those deprived of REM sleep survive only about 5 weeks on average,

from the second link.

A 2001 study at Chicago Medical Institute suggested that sleep deprivation may be linked to serious diseases, such as heart disease and mental illnesses including psychosis and bipolar disorder.[20] The link between sleep deprivation and psychosis  was further documented in 2007 through a study at Harvard Medical School and the University of California at Berkeley. The study revealed, using MRI scans, that lack of sleep causes the brain to become incapable of putting an emotional event into the proper perspective and incapable of making a controlled, suitable response to the event.

From the first link.

REM sleep occurs in bursts totalling about 2 hours a night, usually beginning about 90 minutes after falling asleep.

From the third link.

- Elephants sleep standing up during non-REM sleep, but lie down for REM sleep.

Quote:
- Scientists have not been able to explain a 1998 study showing a bright light shone on the backs of human knees can reset the brain's sleep-wake clock.

Quote:
- British Ministry of Defence researchers have been able to reset soldiers' body clocks so they can go without sleep for up to 36 hrs. Tiny optical fibres embedded in special spectacles project a ring of bright white light (with a spectrum identical to a sunrise) around the edge of soldiers' retinas, fooling them into thinking they have just woken up. The system was first used on US pilots during the bombing of Kosovo.

Quote:
- To drop off we must cool off; body temperature and the brain's sleep-wake cycle are closely linked. That's why hot summer nights can cause a restless sleep. The blood flow mechanism that transfers core body heat to the skin works best between 18 and 30 degrees. But later in life, the comfort zone shrinks to between 23 and 25 degrees - one reason why older people have more sleep disorders.

Quote:
- Diaries from the pre-electric-light-globe Victorian era show adults slept nine to 10 hours a night with periods of rest changing with the seasons in line with sunrise and sunsets.

on this last one Its my favorite thing about camping for weeks at a time, I get into a natural sleep pattern and I feel well rested.

"Yes, like eating and drinking, REM sleep is required for all people and in all places and situations."

You are absolutely correct sir. All people are made the exact same way, the species never mutates, and nature never changes.
