Met with my surgeon for post operative visit and told I can no longer practice Martial Arts
    #12861901 -

So I met with my surgeon today and got told basically that Ill no longer be able to practice martial arts without a major risk for a re-dislocation.

I recently dislocated my knee cap and chipped off a sizeable piece of cartilage and bone. This resulted in me needing a knee scope and having the piece removed.

I have been working with physical therapists and it's been a stressful process. I was told that basically I can no longer use certian workout machines or do certian exercises or I risk reinjury.

I really am depressed over  this MA was honestly what pulled me out of a deep depression and to have this injury take that away from me leaves me with very little. I dedicated all of my time to this and have very little educationally financially or relationship wise and I feel like one of the only positive things in my life got ripped away from me.

I've never been a social butterfly and I enjoyed allowing my actions result in something instead of relying on having to interact so to speak. Now I'm depressed I feel invalidated and weakened.

I was obsessively into martial arts films specific mangas and now it's hard to even read or watch these films because it reminds me how much I love it and how I can't do it anymore.

Also it disgusts me how unfriendly and genuinely anti social the people I practice with have been since the injury. I had a fucking knee surgery and they shrugged it off and don't even say hello to me half the time when I come in to watch practice.

I feel the need to express that to these people but I don't know if its the pussy thing to do. It just honestly gets to me that adults in their 20's can be so cliquish when I went in there to practice on a daily basis with them for hours on end after I got injured. I almost feel like because I'm nothing more than socially akward and misread at times with my body language that they would rather keep their extremely tight nit group as it is and have me not even practice at their dojo.

Maybe I'm lashing out but as far as I'm concerned having the people I practiced with be marginally cordial after the injury would have made a huge difference. I don't have a large pool of friends and the ones I do have are either in serious romantic relationships or work so much their has been no real support source outside of my father and that's just not the same.

How would all of you react if you in my situation? I just feel lost..

Taichi is still major pivoting the situation I'm in now is pretty much I'm screwed for athletics.

Still sword classes are on the table but its going to be risky if I try even non contact so I'm fucked as it stands...

I broke an elbow last year, lost range of motion. Also strength and snap.
I'll never train like I used to, but I still 'achieve mastery through time and effort'.

If it's pretty definitive that your injury is something that can't be worked through, then it's a matter of needing to accept that, even if at first, it's only through your thinking, without the conviction of emotions or without emotions being resolved. Acceptance is definitely a process but it's a good word to set as a goal because, not only is it reality, but there's no point at all in making yourself suffer over something that is no longer over your ability to influence to make different. Regarding the other thing you mentioned, it's a great opportunity to put more strength and confidence in yourself, in the sense that you really can't count on or rely on almost anyone else, unless it's talk of someone that you've established a sincere, intimate relationship with. Honestly, fuck them, I know it's weird at first because they made part of your world, but they are honestly periphery and the feelings that might pull you to expect more of a connection out of them would be better served through being open to eventually finding other people who suit you better and actually get involved with you in a real relationship.
It sucks that you could lose something that became an important part of your life, especially due to something as trivial as a piece of bone, and it's much harder when it's something which assisted you in making improvements with your state of being, but now it's an opportunity to keep making improvements in that regard. The only thing I think I could mention is that, from what little I do know regarding martial arts, a huge part of it, maybe even a more important part of it, is the mental/spiritual aspects of it, discipline, control of self, awareness, calm mind, etc... Maybe you can keep on truckin' with martial arts in this regard, and it can even include still meeting with instructors/masters, working with them to find ways of self-mastery that don't have to include all the basic physical parts of the practice which are now inaccessible to you. In the meantime, still having an active practice in the parts of martial arts that are still accessible to you will give you a chance to find other activities and interests that you'll find will be fulfilling when you engage in them. There's buhjillions of things to learn and do on this planet. :earth:

If I should die this very moment
I wouldn't fear
For I've never known completeness
Like being here
Wrapped in the warmth of you
Loving every breath of you

You know what? I was on a week long hiking trip a couple weeks back, and actually got to thinking about this thread and came to the same conclusion.

There are a million different things to be passionate about and deeply involved in - i am sure there are dozens of things which are easily accessible to you and which very well may bring you intense meaning and satisfaction.

Start looking elsewhere, rather than dwelling on your situation OP.

That's tough tesla - I'd lose my sheit if I was in your position. I neeeeeed to be extremely active on the daily, or else I feel off. But that isn't to say you're done with anything active.

Out of curiosity, how did your injury happen in the first place?

You said in your post that your doctor told you to not use certain machines?  You really shouldn't be using any machines when weight training in the first place - free weights only. Machines cause your body to often follow unnatural motion paths, which can lead to muscle imbalance and injury.
