any object is simply a thought, or series of thoughts, clothed in energy.

no, it's really not at all.  a rock is not made up of thoughts.  it's made up of elements which are made up of atoms.  no thoughts involved.

what a silly person you are!

Do we perceive the rock, though? Or do we form ideas about the rock and become acquainted with them?

yes and atoms are made of energy
e=mc2.......unless you beg to differ.
now we get down to - who thought of the rock in the first place?
who uttered us?

i'm not trying to be funny.
i said objects are thoughts clothed in energy.
i agree thoughts are not energy.

complex systems of energy may produce a thought in a living organism

could you give one example? do you mean like "i'm horny"? dig deeper.
how did the complex systems of energy come to be?

Well, do we *know* objects directly, or do we just think we know them?

If ideas are derived from two sources - sense perception and reflection, and all knowledge is restricted to ideas..then that would mean that we do not really know objects or things, but rather we develop ideas around what we think they are.

Reality would be basically unknowable to us.

I tend to think that we have an ability to know the universe directly.

Edit: Which doesn't actually relate that much to the original post, now that I think about it..

nice thoughts revelation
i ponder that we get some information about objects thru our physical senses, but as the hierophant indicates, this is not full story.

yes, whilst wearing our monkey suits we are limited in our perception of reality.
there are some intrepid souls who choose to only accept the reality provided by their senses.

"Conditions in Time are ferocious.  Our suits begin to break down after 20 or 30 years."

I like my time-suit.  It's been holding up well.  I'm slowly having it converted into a fiction-suit however.  Fiction-suits last MUCH longer.

And you can get a pin-striping package.  With ground effects!
