Happiness is what you are - Proof
    #11117578 -

One person gains an object, it makes them extremely happy

Another person gains the same object, it doesn't make them happy in the slightest

It can only be personal imagination positing happyness on a particular object, striving to attain it, then feeling releif when it is attained.

If you posit happyness on some thing, then you must be happyness itself

'It is undeniable that certain objects give us happyness' some may say
But for another being, the same object contains no happyness whatsoever
So it can only be imagination

We all like different things, and are all different people, so the fact that one thing makes one person happy and not another doesn't suprise me at all.  Obviously objects in themselve contain no inherent happiness causing quality, so it from within us that the happiness comes.  It's not really imagined though.  Is it your imagination that makes you hungry, or makes you want to sleep?  I'm trying to say that somethings are just inherent to human nature, call it imagination or whatever, but that doesn't deture from or change what it is, and the fact that it is real, relative to how real we are.

A blind man finds a pair of goggles that allow him to see again. Another man, with 20/20 vision, finds the same goggles and tosses them in the sea.

Even if the blind man's happiness is imagined, does that somehow detract from his joy?

how real you take yourself to be (mind & body) is synonymous with how much you take objects to be real & then posit happyness in objects

only when we take Self to be an object do we depend on other objects for happyness

the Self is happyness

its not about - 'yeah happyness is inside us, but we really need objects in this reality, they do make us happy even if imaginary, without certain objects we'd die' etc...
this is just mind buying time, the justification of how important certain objects are can only be personal imagination again...

its about the revelation that 'I' is what happyness actually is

justifying how important objects are can not in any way compare to the revelation of the Self being Bliss

If you posit sadness on some thing, then you must be sadness itself.

Self is not this or that, but what you are at this moment.  How could it be otherwise?  You can't be something that is not your self, nor experience something which is not.  You can't fill in the blank.

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

You need some thing to be sad about, you need no thing to be happy

You can wake up & be perfectly happy for no reason at all, but for sadness to be there, you need to be mulling over some thing..

Waking up and being happy for no reason at all? I've seemingly had this experience many times,
but I think there are some unknown reasons involved (lucky roll of the brain chemistry).

Then again, maybe you're right.  I've heard of waking up on the wrong side of the bed, but never of waking up on the right side...perhaps because we don't need to wake on any one side to be happy.

There seems to be a baseline state I can get into that isn't unpleasant, but I wouldn't call it happiness, either.  And even this balance between emotional extremes requires something to exist...So...I agree with you...sort of.  I don't think "I" am any one specific state of being which I think you would agree with.  The difference is I think happiness is one of those states, rather than being my core-"what I am".

If something requires something else to exist, it can never be balanced

If we feel we need some thing to find balance then we are already identified as some thing unbalanceable, then we strive to balance it!

But it will NEVER be balanced, this is the illusion, it will never be perfect at the end fo a goal.
Perfection is already so.

What we call inner peace or balance, is letting go of that which can never be balanced...seeing it is impossible & leaving it to play out
the 'Human Being' organism, will never ever be balanced as its existence is codependent

Something is already perfectly balanced, happy & in love with everything...

These are in no way human achievements

Interesting point..

I do tend to agree with you, I've had those moments of "flow" where the world can't touch me.

But it doesn't last.  There is always something in my mundane life that manages to snag me again.  That's the nature of the beast, I suppose.

Yeah we all have this... but without being bitten a few times we wouldnt learn to not enter into that stream again you see?

The taste of personal tastes like poo compared to the taste of universal, if these flavours wern't there then we wouldn't transcend the personal for the universal...

I don't agree that there is a distinction between happiness and sadness.  Just like black and white, they are they same thing, just on opposite ends of the spectrum.  If you need things to be sad about, you also need things to be happy about.  Nobody is just happy for no reason.  Sometimes we wake up feeling happy, but come on, there is a reason for it, whether it be our dreams, or the events of the past day..  You need things to be happy about to be happy.  And when I say things I don't mean material objects, I mean a loving family, a good job, following ones dreams, a good time with some friends, deep personal reflection or reflection on life itself which returns good vibes.  Life is not suffering, it is a wide range of things.  When we are happy we are no longer suffering. I don't believe somebody needs to dedicate there life to the buddhist tradition to be happy, happiness is something we all can experience.
