Holy shit, "Dark matter is mysterious.......":rofl2:

It's not quantum ninja matter. It's a form of matter that doesn't block light or reflect it, so it's invisible to us. The only way to detect it is through the gravitation force that it exerts. Dark matter is needed to explain the rotation of the galaxy.

Compare this to God, which has no way of being detected, and no need for his existence. How is dark matter in any way similar to religion?

Bullshit, you say the only way to detect it is through gravitational force that "it" exerts because the scientists are missing 80% of the mass that they thought the universe had.  Myco said that "dark matter" is what causes the universe to expand faster.

It sounds a lot like scientists don't have a perfect picture as to how the universe works so whenever someone points out a discrepancy in their view they trot out "mysterious and elusive dark matter"...

Gravity is a weak field compared to electro-magnetism.  I would posit that holds things together a lot better than gravity.  What causes atoms to function the way they do?  Electromagnetism.

Dark matter is not proven.  It has not been found ANYWHERE even though many of it's proponents say 80% of the entire universe is made up of it.

It must be a "quantum ninja" Zuoden.  It hides behind itself all over the place simultaneously, thus keeping itself "mysterious, elusive, and dark"....:rofl2:

Stop jumping to conclusions.

We know that Dark Matter is mysterious and elusive.

It is dark because it is a quantum ninja and is thus wearing the appropriate dark colored ninja uniform.

We have not ascertained the ethnicity of said "Dark Matter-Quantum Ninja".

There's no such thing as racism against white people because popular opinion says such things do not exist.

Therefore if Dark Matter is a white boy it is impossible to harbor racism towards it.

Re: The Big Bang Theory is false [Re: OrgoneConclusion]

I went looking for information about using my good friend Google, and lo and behold information was quite easy to find. I didn't read the whole page, I'll leave that up to you if you choose to Poid, but it seems to me that your argument doesn't show that the Big Bang Theory is false so much as it shows you don't understand what the Big Bang Theory is.

Here is a small exerpt from the site:

Quote:
In most popularized science sources, BBT is often described with something like "The universe came into being due to the explosion of a point in which all matter was concentrated." Not surprisingly, this is probably the standard impression which most people have of the theory. Occasionally, one even hears "In the beginning, there was nothing, which exploded."

There are several misconceptions hidden in these statements:

•The BBT is not about the origin of the universe. Rather, its primary focus is the development of the universe over time.
•BBT does not imply that the universe was ever point-like.
•The origin of the universe was not an explosion of matter into already existing space.
The famous cosmologist P. J. E. Peebles stated this succinctly in the January 2001 edition of Scientific American (the whole issue was about cosmology and is worth reading!): "That the universe is expanding and cooling is the essence of the big bang theory. You will notice I have said nothing about an 'explosion' - the big bang theory describes how our universe is evolving, not how it began." (p. 44). The March 2005 issue also contained an excellent article pointing out and correcting many of the usual misconceptions about BBT.

Another cosmologist, the German Rudolf Kippenhahn, wrote the following in his book "Kosmologie fuer die Westentasche" ("cosmology for the pocket"): "There is also the widespread mistaken belief that, according to Hubble's law, the Big Bang began at one certain point in space. For example: At one point, an explosion happened, and from that an explosion cloud travelled into empty space, like an explosion on earth, and the matter in it thins out into greater areas of space more and more. No, Hubble's law only says that matter was more dense everywhere at an earlier time, and that it thins out over time because everything flows away from each other." In a footnote, he added: "In popular science presentations, often early phases of the universe are mentioned as 'at the time when the universe was as big as an apple' or 'as a pea'. What is meant there is in general the epoch in which not the whole, but only the part of the universe which is observable today had these sizes." (pp. 46, 47; FAQ author's translation, all emphasizes in original)

I hope that page will provide useful information for you. I was never all that sciencey so I can't debate this with you so much as I can point you towards resources covering the Big Bang Theory.

From what I understand,

Its only needed to explain the rotation of the galaxies and such if we take our present models as accurate.

From what qubit has said, it isn't regarded as real matter neccesarily, it is just a phrase used to refer to that quantity of matter that would corrrect the divergance between our observations and our calculations.

This situation can either be satisfied by us being wrong in some way (equations a bit off, measurements of mass wrong, whatever) or the dark matter actually existing.

From what I can see, most of the bullshit laymen arguments about dark matter is people just not understanding that it is figurative, and not intented to necessarily suggest the matter actually exists.

Or amending general relativity.  Observations being wrong is unlikely (but still possible of course).  Its much more likely that there is some exotic matter we dont know about that doesn't interact with E&M or that the theory of general relativity (ie, the theory of gravity) needs to be tweaked.  There are scientists working on each case, its one of the few unsolved mysterys in basic (reductionist) physics.

The reason you think dark matter is a made-up concept with no rational basis is because you clearly aren't interested in learning anything about it. I think that's sad.

So you think the moon is attracted to the earth via electromagnetism? After all, it's stronger than gravity. And that's all that matters, right?

I agree and disagree

Dark matter is a made up concept.

just like all other concepts

and it does get overused as an 'explanation' under the guise of science.

but it is also a very important concept that needs to be taken seriously.

by saying that 80% of the universe is dark matter, pop-scientists are masking the actual statement:

that 80% of certain statistics cannot be explained by any visible mass

Re: The Big Bang Theory is false [Re: Noteworthy]
    #10880848 -

But they aren't saying "80% of the universe is dark matter", they're saying "the rotation of the galaxy is too fast to keep it all together based on the mass of the stars alone, so we think that there must extra mass in the galaxy that we can't see, and we calculate that this 'dark matter' makes up 80% of the mass of the galaxy". When explained properly, it makes plenty of sense.

That is clearly not the same thing as "quantum ninjas" or anything else that's made up without a reason for it. We have good reason to believe dark matter is real.

debating this subject is pointless since barely anyone has a clue about the subject.

Saying the big bang theory is false is nonsense anyway since its a theory based upon a collection of verifiable >FACTS< collected through experiments and data collected by observation.

And no i dont claim genius either. But i do want to contribute a little so i post a link here which is very usefull

How does this make plenty of sense? It's just as likely to be incorrect as correct looking back on the history of scientific observation which is correcting itself all the time. Your post sounds positively religious to me. Course I'm not a high priest so what would I know.:satansmoking:

Oh I see. You're missing one of your other premises - that nothing can be created. This premise is false in the case of the beginning of the universe.

There is no such thing as the "beginning of the universe" because this implies non-existence, which is an impossible hypothetical phenomenon.

So far, nobody has rebutted my claim that non-existence is impossible; so long as this claim is true, the Big Bang theory is a false explanation for the "origin" of the universe.

Does the imaginary unicorn standing outside your house exist?  No it doesn't, that makes it non-existent.  It's not a phenomenon either, if anything it's the lack of one.  Basically what you're saying is everything exists, right? This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard.
