i think you're doing it wrong. i haven't done shit to my hair in like 6 years.

and i wash it maybe once a month or so. washing it is a pain, but otherwise, it just does its own thing.

If you need to ask for somebody's opinion as to whether or not you should go dready, maybe you shouldn't do it.

You like dreads? Then knot that shit up.
Not sure if you'll look "cool" enough with dreads? Then stick to your Fantastic Sam's haircut.

Trying to maintain dreads usually just makes them look like shit and creates more "work" to do.

I don't touch mine except to put them up for the night, or in a bandanna for work. I usually wash them every other week or so. I try not to let them go more than 3 weeks without a wash, but it happens sometimes.

I spent more time maintaining regular hair than dreads. I've probably saved hundreds of gallons of water just from not "needing" to wash my hair every day.

Haha fureal, that shits gross.

Dont get dreds bro. Get some sort of hat.

Dreds look fine on some people, and i got no problem with um, but the truth is. Your taking all that hair and tangling it up into clumps, which you hardly wash.

I wouldnt want that on my head.

Its kinda a rasta thing, otherwise, just not your business lol.

Me either. I don't buy shampoo, conditioner, brushes, combs none of that stuff. I buzz my head about every 2-3 months. Wash my head with a wash rag with the rest of the body.

Couldn't be simpler.

If he dreads his hair he will need to get used to it.

For sure man, clean shaven head is never regrettable, unless you have one of those fucked up bumpy/ridgy scalps

My head has always been so damn lumpy that I end up looking goofy as hell with a shaved head :frown: I shaved my head completely at age 8 or 9 and from that day on, kids called me Lopster (cause my head was lopsided).

Oh and to add to the topic at hand. Dreads work for some folks and definitely not for others. I had dreads going for 6-7 months and they turned out all whacky so I chopped em off. Although I like dreadlocks (when managed decently), but they just aren't for me!

yea i have about just under shoulder length hair, barely too short for a ponytail, and i'v just started surfing. let me tell you, long hair in the water is a major hassle. iv been considering dreadlocks and shaving, but i figure i might as well try dreads and then if i dont like them i can just shave anyway.

and if you keep your dreads well maintained they dont get all stanky, or so i've heard

I think that dreads aren't for everyone... But I have recently been thinking like you... I have long hair as well, ( About shoulder length. )and was thinking of dreading it and if I didn't like it just shave it off. I personally know someone who has been growing out his dreads for 8 years. His dreads do not stink or even look dirty so I wouldn't let that scare you from doing it.

In My Opinion  -

I figure if it's something you want to try... then you might as well. You'll never know unless you do. Hair always grows back.

Mine are still pretty new.. Just starting to go natty. The only maintenance I have to do is tightening up the roots and working in loose hair (there's a fair bit as well :frown:). Normally I just roll out of bed and don't really give a fuck about my appearance, but now that I'm single, I suppose I gotta make a bit of effort .

I imagine with time I will barely have to do that. I had quite a lot of really straight hair beforehand as well.

It will be a year in September I think .

But yah, before I knotted my hair up, I had this long assed shaggy lions mane thing going on, I never did anything to it at all :yesnod:.

Just get a mullet. You'll look slightly less stupid than you would with dreads.

But really, I don't give a fuck .

If you haven't washed your hair in a year then yes it smells I wouldn't wash my hair for long periods of time , no were near a year and other people said all the time it smelled, but I never knew it did.  I don't even understand why you think it wouldn't, yes not all dreads smell but if you don't wash it then they will, there is no debate about it, just because you can't smell it doesn't mean others can't kinda like your breath you just don't notice it.
