Killing existing people because of undesirable traits is much different than designing babies without undesirable traits.

What would become of humanity without these 'undesirable' traits?  We would evolve into a new species based the fitness landscape (the environment).  Its just a different manifestation of the same old selection and evolution mechanism.

Eugenics wasn't about killing people but rather breeding particular traits out and encouraging other traits...

Do you think we know enough about things to choose the right traits to discourage/encourage?

I think what ever we do it will come out worse. Were just a fucked up species for the most part. I suggest just letting it unfold and making the most out of the few years you have here.

people do that and have been doing that with animals for who knows how long?

the next logical step would be to do it on ourselves, but that would be very hard to implement, because it's dumb people breed earlier, more often, and with less regard than do people who would have the brains to even think about doing those things.
