enlightenment it universal, you don't have to be into anything zen to experience it. different belief systems are just different methods of reaching it... or you might just find it on your own.

Your on your way to metaprogramming! According to Timothy Leary's Eightfold model of consiousness that type of thinking is one step past the circuit of experience, which has been called zen. You should look up John Lilly, or do some researching on www.deoxy.org about metaprogramming.

Ah... the miracle of the unconscious hack. hehehe I had one of these happen to me about two years ago.
A buddy and I had just started coming down off a level 4? mushroom trip. We were bullshitting as we hacked and all of a sudden, we both realized we were hackin' the whole time we were talking. Of course.... that's when we fucked it all up. We got all panicky with excitement and the hack was gone.
(I've decided I like the word HACK, BTW.)

sclorch, could you reccomend any books about zen?
There are so many damn books on zen it's unreal...
I can tell you this though: you'll know zen when you realize Nietzsche, Jesus, Lao Tzu, and Siddhartha Gautama (of the Sakya clan) all spoke the same language (though their words have been perverted... except for Nietzsche- he's too new).

I practice Zazen meditation however, my feelings are "Zen Enlightenment" happens when you enter a state of basic thought and come to an important realisation. More to the point, when you simplify life and most importantly when you simplify your process of thinking. When you shut off everything but your mind, then turn off all your thoughts and clear your mind...and then see what you think.
Meditating is just a way of attchieving a type of thinking. You can be in a Zen state without meditating...however, that is just my opinion.

There are different forms of enlightenment in the buddhis religion, simply coming to an understanding, an eppiphany you might say, is a form of enlightenment, you were enlightened by the creator with a thought, which is what happened to you, but then there is total enlightenment usually only achieved by the buddhas and most advanced teachers of zen in this type they are permanently enlightened and are said to die enlightened, these are the people who break the chain of reincarnation and reach nirvana. But you did indeed have a deep form of enlightenment. NDL
