I didn't support it, and i don't now. I joined right before it started, and thank god i didn't get sent over there. I wouldn't ask anyone to support me, i knew why i joined, i knew the risks. I realized when i was in, no matter what order i followed, it was me doing the things i did.

How am i a hypocrite? I don't get your argument. I joined in 01', and got the fuck out of there in 04'. I consider myself partially responsible for the shit that has happened just because i was apart of it, even tho i never left the US.

Niteowl, i rarely ever agree with you, and right now I'm pretty sure your screaming at me with your head in the sand. You can have your opinion, but i do not agree.

Oh, OK. I agree, then: drafted soldiers deserve more respect than voluntary soldiers, for sure.

Still, I would dodge the draft and skip country before I surrendered myself to the mindless machine of the military.

I can see why many wouldn't be prepared to 'desert' their country, but I don't think I could live with myself after fighting such a blatantly unjust war. But then, I'm young and idealistic. That will change with time.

Blaming the troops for the war
is like getting mad at cops because of the war on drugs

The cops didn't make the laws, they just enforce them

Troops don't declare war they just follow orders.

Since you were in the military and don't support the troops
it makes you a hypocrite, plain and simple

The majority of the people in the military today were in the military before 9-11

I can assure you that very few of them want to be at war
they are there because it is their job, just like it was your job.

i have no love for the politicians that started this war
but hold no anger towards the troops that got caught up in it.

It's all circumstantial. If i was drafted now, my ass would be dodging that shit. If we were being invaded, or doing things for honorable reasons, then i would go along with it. I would sign up if anyone's freedom was actually on the line. Now tho, this crap is completly stupid.

Quote:

If every soldier who disagreed with the war refused to fight, would the war still be possible?

If every policeman who disagreed with the war on drugs refused to arrest pot-smokers and the like, would there still be a war on drugs?

You're not getting it. They make it possible by doing their jobs. There is always the option of quitting. They can say 'no,' but they choose not to.

(And I know it's more complicated than that in the military; but no matter what anyone says, soldiers' superior officers can not pull the trigger for them. It's their choice.)

I do blame the cops. They took the job, they are responsible for the things they do and enforce. You can't be morally free of guilt when you participate in the problem. Whoever thinks like that is a VERY dangerous person.

If i demanded support from anyone in the past, or a thank you for serving, then i would be a hypocrite. I already stated i feel like a jackass for even being in the military, and left asap. I joined before i cared to look at the politics, i was looking for money and a job. I wouldn't support me if i was the general public. Just like i don't support others for joining just for a job now. Where am i being a hypocrite? I just say i don't support the troops. this war is stupid, and i would be a hypocrite if i joined now knowing what this stupid war was all about. All the people that joined before the war has started already had their chance to get out, or not sign up.

So you're one of those people who get more stubborn and less reasonable with age. Good to know for future discussions.

How is it reasonable to blame a soldier
for a war, a politician started

You can't participate in something for one reason (money/job), and not be responsible for the things you do. It's like you telling me that a hired hitman has no moral guilt, because it's not your problem people want other people killed. So i guess it's ok, because you needed a job.

Would you voluntarily take a job that would force you to do bad deeds in the name of it's own self interest? The military is not defending the country, they are invading another out of the interests of the powerful. People that join it just to have a job, or for money, or to just go to war are the hand that does these things.

except that maybe most of the US military thinks that the US government is completely moral in their actions.  would that make an ignorant person guilty?

also, i read this quote a long time ago and it stuck with me well, but i couldn't remember where i read it at.  for some reason i also read your quotes...

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." -Buddha

i haven't, but it really wasn't that bad.  i worked fast food for 2 1/2 years back in high school and i worked with many mexicans that couldn't speak english.  someone said it wasn't even legal, but i dunno.  it wasn't really that bad though, because i put myself in their shoes and figured that i would have came to this country if i was born in mexico.  can you really blame them?

Tohu Tehom Theli Than Leviathan Tanin'iver Taninsam!

There exists one lie that is the absolute worst. A lie that has successfully infiltrated many of the Western governments. This lie is Christianity, and it must be fought in every way, shape and form. Burn the churches and kill the priests. The abomination that is Christianity must be wiped from this Earth.
