yeah, something like that.  sure, anyone can become arrogant but it seems like christians are suppose to serve as an example and....well....they usually dont to me...in fact, they usually make me realize why some people hate on them.

Ok smart guy so if G_d isn't rooting for the Americans, then which country is his favorite?

I hope you aren't one of those crazies that think G_d hates freedom.

So with that logic, you think I would be in the right if I moved to a small village in Japan and didn't speak a lick of Japanese, and expected everyone to accommodate me?  I'm sorry but if I'm going to live in a country, it's my responsibility as a human being to know how to communicate with those people.

Nothing pisses me off more at work than someone trying to get their computer fixed that doesn't understand 75% of what I'm saying.

Too bad we have no official language.

It could easily be that in the future Texas and socal has a majority of speakers-o-spanish.

And in that case, american texans should learn spanish.  (I have 5 years of it under my belt so I'm good lol)

Basically, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Yea too bad... but some states do have an official language.

Yea, very easily.  In fact thats a demographic reality with respect to current trends.  And when/if such a time comes, the majority spanish speakers will be in their right to defend their language and culture in the way they see fit.  Hopefully they will do a better job than we have done.

America is supposed to be the land of opportunities, the land of the free.

I really hope this fear of other languages dies soon.

Yeah I get what you're saying definitely, but I also see how shitty society treats hispanic immigrants, and it pisses me off alot. I'm the only guy that speaks fluent english at my job, and all the horse owners there (horse stables) treat all the immigrants like total shit yelling at them and stuff, but are really nice to me. It pisses me off alot, but it's hard to be pissed at someone while they're being nice to you.

Fuck you conflicting emotions! :mad2:

 I've been fortunate enough that all of my coworkers have learned well enough english to understand them.  Only one of them didn't know english very well, but after only a year he had improved 100%.

It will die when there's a language we can all agree on.  You're free to speak whatever the fuck you want but if your audience can't understand you, you may as well have said nothing at all.  Language is one of the most basic ways to communicate.  If you don't have that, what else is there?  I'm not going to play charades for a foreigner that's in my country speaking a slurry of English prepositions with Japanese verbs.

lol what has the American Soldier done for me? kill foreigners who aren't threats to make more foreigners angry enough to become threats, and using that to justify his action?

"I killed that guy's two brothers and he got upset and tried to plant a bomb to stop me, so I was justified in killing him. This was thousands of miles away from you, but I promise he was a threat because he hates your freedom"

And Jesus didn't offer to die for me, He already did.

And what do Jesus, murderous American soldiers, and dislike of foreign languages have in common anyways?

Society is full of retards who stole my optimism.

He's not asking you what he DID for you, he's telling you that they put their lives on the line for us.  Which they do when they're at war.  I think you're confused as to what we're all arguing about.

I joined the millitary for my own reasons, and one of them was not so i could get a thank you from anyone. I went in for myself, not the american public. I always hated the phrase "support the troops", because the troops all went in for their own reasons, and every pair of boots knew when they joined that they do whatever the governemnt tells them. You can't say that you don't support the war, the choices of the governemnt, but you support the troops. Thats just plain wrong, because none of them were drafted like back in the day. They all chose to join, and not one person was forced into it. So if you don't support the war, then don't support the troops.

My point is, today's american soldier is not like yesterdays, and i don't support them like i would have if they were drafted, or if the nation was actually under attack from a foreign enemy. If i supported this war today, then of course i would support the troops today. But todays troops all joined knowing that they are doing whatever fool war the governemnt starts, and i don't support that at all. I am a trained soldier, and i was tought to kill when told to kill, not to think, and do what my comanders told me to. I was paid for it, and givin money to do this. I wouldn't support me under these pretenses unless i argeed with the war itself, or i was actually fighting to protect you all from actual invaders.

I don't support the troops right now, and i was one. "Support your troops" is a saying that applies to a draft or a war you agree with. I can respect that they have a dangerous job, but i will not say i support them, because they are just as responsible for where we are at today just like the government is. People are responible for their actions, even if ordered to do what they do when they chose to be in the situation they are in. I feel sorry for the people who joined right before we invaded iraq because they had no choice at the moment. But they did chose to join, and knew what their jobs entailed from the begining. And thats to do what they are told. Im still trying to figure out why i have to support the troops. Tell someone that you don't and they freak out lol.

I think that is false.

Most wars waged by the US are not designed to protect the average American citizen; they are designed to protect business interests. Granted, better business benefits many Americans, but it's very rarely a case of kill-or-be-killed.

I think the average American soldier is clueless when it comes to war justification. (Canadians, too!)

Dont you think its a cop-out to blanketly accuse hundreds of thousands of diverse people of being 'clueless'?  Who do you think should 'clue them in'?  Oh wait... dont answer that....

I guess I'm just optimistic. I'd hate to think that all those people agreed to kill without question, knowing the bunk justification for this (and many previous) war(s).

Do you think the average American soldier chooses money over morality?

I think youre making (unfounded) assumptions about the nature of american soldiers without considering diversity of opinions and perspectives they actually have.  You need look no more than three posts above to see it.

Oh, I thought it was a rhetorical question... (seemed a tad trite)

IMO, most the soldiers are doing it for a career, money and ideals - in that order.  My opinion on it isnt really relevant though is it?

If I were to join at the present moment it would definitely be all about the money.
