i know how to speak english but that just seems...arrogant to me.

or are evil doers pretending to be christians to make the religion look bad?

yeah, something like that.  sure, anyone can become arrogant but it seems like christians are suppose to serve as an example and....well....they usually dont to me...in fact, they usually make me realize why some people hate on them.

So with that logic, you think I would be in the right if I moved to a small village in Japan and didn't speak a lick of Japanese, and expected everyone to accommodate me?  I'm sorry but if I'm going to live in a country, it's my responsibility as a human being to know how to communicate with those people.

Nothing pisses me off more at work than someone trying to get their computer fixed that doesn't understand 75% of what I'm saying.

Difficult business is probably better than no business. :shrug:

Plus, 75% is not 100%, like your Japanese example: a majority of immigrants know enough English to communicate decently; and they all know enough to survive, obviously.

You dont need english to survive in many of the enclaves.  In fact, you need to know spanish to survive in some.

I've expressed these thoughts to coworkers and managers, and they have no problem with me turning away a customer in that situation.  If they can't understand me and I can't understand them, there's no point in initiating a transaction.  I've even caught a few lying about it.  They PRETEND not to know english when I'm mentioning fees, data backups, for example.  "It's $99 for 9 gigabytes or less"  they go, "what backup?" I nunno backup" but as soon as I say "free", it's "Oh yea I take backup.  Back up dis dat dat dat."
