I never really "grew up"
    #9109239 -

Im kind of a proverbial "peter pan" of sorts. I think in the psychedellic subculture there are many who can relate and even glorify it. In fact, Ive met people twice my age who havent "grown up". Guys who still wear the same band t-shirt theyve had since they were young, a backwards baseball cap and hang out on the streets smokeing herb and drinking with highschool aged kids.

After my last trip though I kinda realized this as perhaps worse of a trait than I thought it was. I have a reoccuring dream where I am in highschool. I really miss being young. I hang out with alot of kids who are 10 years younger than me. Most people my age have kids of their own, wives, careers and whatnot. I still just like to hangout and party. I work the same kinda jobs as the kids 10 years younger than me too, I even talk like them and dress like them more than I do people my own age. I like to go out with younger girls(legal aged ones of course) as I found most women my age just want to get married and have kids. Every once in a while one of them reminds me that Im aging and it kills my buzz. Im not 18 anymore, Im balding, Ive got back hair and a beer gut. After this last trip of mine I think its time I finally grow up, I just have such a hard time letting go of my youth. Can anyone relate?

I think maybe I need to go to college, get a career, put on the monkey suit and cut off my long hair Im just afraid if I did all that I wouldnt be me anymore, ya know?
Im not sure whether Im being true to myself or just being immature. Im not sure if what I think is "growing up" is just what society instills in us and is brainwashing(my long heald belief) or truely for the better.

I still partially believe that to be young of heart is the true fountain of youth, and that we can remain lighthearted funloving children even on our death bed or at 70+ years old.
Do I kill my inner child? Lock it away? Put on a stone face and exchange my tie dye for a tie?

i think you need to step it up and do what you gotta do. i'm suprised it took you this long to realize that hanging out with teenagers is bullshit.

You are like a ship.

As time goes on, parts get replaced as they wear.  Eventually, may be made of completely different parts than you started with, but you're still the same ship.

eventually you need to take responsibility for your direction.
it's never too late, but the one thing about most high school kids is they have no direction, and this doesn't seem to bother them. cause they don't give a shit. responsibility is for adults.

yet the thing is you ARE an adult. yet you choose to identify with someone you are not.

if you keep this up, you are actually denying yourself a true identity. yes society labels people, but no matter who you are you gotta have a label. why not make it something at least somewhat respectable, nowhatimean?

i feel you. im coming to understand you're thoughts better. at first i wanted to make fun of you but it's only because i am in the same place as you, probably a few years younger though.

it ain't gunna last man. what you've got will abandon you eventually.

but i mean i suppose you could keep it up for as long as you want. i mean eventually though, won't kids start thinking you're creepy or something? and if you do keep it up, i honestly cant see much fufillment coming from it. but alas i am not you

but you have that voice in you telling you to make something better of yourself. change isn't bad, you need to constantly update yourself or else you will grow stagnant and be unhappy. i am young i have much to learn but i know i cannot accept what i have now as the answer...

mmkay im done.
always keep it fun though. you never have to stop having fun, who the fuck told you otherwise?

How old are you?

Do you live on your own or with parents?

What manner of employment do you have?

Do you also have sex with chicks 10 years younger than you?

Don't fool yourself.  You aren't a "peterpan", you are a "LOSER".

I simply cannot comprehend the attitutdes of so many people here.

How can you just sit around yout entire life and NEVER do anything productive?

Think about it:  You are already old, fat, balding, and have a beer gut.  Yet all you can do is yearn for the days of high school.

Be honest with yourself.  As you age, what do you look back on?  Do you have any memories of ever accomplishing anything you can be proud of?  Anything at all?

I would want to kill myself if I had spent my entire life being a complete worthless waste of space.  My only regret is that you don't want to do the same.

Who wouldn't want to have sex with chicks 10 years younger then them?? I understand if you are dating someone in a serious relationship then you'd want them to be around the same age so you could relate to each other but who in their right mind would choose a 30+ year old over an 18 year old for some good old fashioned carnal sex? Unless of course you have a Milf fetish. =) Shit man, even by mid 20s girls start to get fat and lose the great bodies they had at 18...

#6, my question was intended for the OP.

Kindly step aside and let the grown folks discuss business.

You don't have to grow up and change your method of thinking to "play the game" of college and career. Your inner child doesn't die as long as you choose a major and career that interests you. When you can do something you are passionate about for a living then it can almost inspire that 'inner child'.
