Im kind of a proverbial "peter pan" of sorts. I think in the psychedellic subculture there are many who can relate and even glorify it. In fact, Ive met people twice my age who havent "grown up". Guys who still wear the same band t-shirt theyve had since they were young, a backwards baseball cap and hang out on the streets smokeing herb and drinking with highschool aged kids.
After my last trip though I kinda realized this as perhaps worse of a trait than I thought it was. I have a reoccuring dream where I am in highschool. I really miss being young. I hang out with alot of kids who are 10 years younger than me. Most people my age have kids of their own, wives, careers and whatnot. I still just like to hangout and party. I work the same kinda jobs as the kids 10 years younger than me too, I even talk like them and dress like them more than I do people my own age. I like to go out with younger girls(legal aged ones of course) as I found most women my age just want to get married and have kids. Every once in a while one of them reminds me that Im aging and it kills my buzz. Im not 18 anymore, Im balding, Ive got back hair and a beer gut. After this last trip of mine I think its time I finally grow up, I just have such a hard time letting go of my youth. Can anyone relate?
I think maybe I need to go to college, get a career, put on the monkey suit and cut off my long hair Im just afraid if I did all that I wouldnt be me anymore, ya know? Im not sure whether Im being true to myself or just being immature. Im not sure if what I think is "growing up" is just what society instills in us and is brainwashing(my long heald belief) or truely for the better.
I still partially believe that to be young of heart is the true fountain of youth, and that we can remain lighthearted funloving children even on our death bed or at 70+ years old. Do I kill my inner child? Lock it away? Put on a stone face and exchange my tie dye for a tie?
